Design and Fabrication of the Hybrid Slot Antenna for Wireless LAN at 5.8㎓ Band (5.8㎓ 대역 무선 LAN용 하이브리드 슬롯 안테나 설계 및 제작)

  • In this paper, a hybrid slot antenna is designed and fabricated for wireless LAN at 5.8㎓ band. The hybrid slot antenna is consisted of the inductively-fed slot and capacitively-fed slot. To obtain wide bandwidth, the inductively-fed slot is designed at 5.3㎓ and the capacitively-fed slot is designed at 5.8㎓ Important parameters in the design are slot width and CPW length. The hybrid slot antenna is simulated by using Ensemble 6.0. The measured results of this antenna are compared with its simulated results. The resonant frequency of fabricated hybrid slot antenna is 5.8㎓, the bandwidth for VSWR<1.5 is 28% and the gain is 5 ㏈i. The 3-㏈ beamwidths in E-plane and H-plane are 60°and 44°, respectively.

CPW-fed Compact Slot Antenna Matched by T-shaped Stub (T형 스터브로 정합된 CPW급전 소형 슬롯 안테나)

  • In this paper, a design method for a compact slot antenna fed by a coplanar waveguide (CPW) is studied. A T-shaped tuning stub is inserted inside a narrow rectangular slot and the slot is impedance matched to the CPW feedline by adjusting the width, length, and position of the stub. The resonance frequency is adjustable by the slot length and the antenna size can be reduced by bending the slot. The resonance frequency and impedance matching property of the compact slot antenna are similar to those of the half-wavelength slot antenna, which enables one to design compact antenna of this type with ease. A compact slot antenna for 2.45-GHz ISM band is designed, fabricated on an FR4 substrate (dielectric constant of 4.4 and thickness of 0.8 mm), and experimentally tested. The measured results agree well with the simulations, which confirms the validity of this study. The fabricated compact slot antenna shows an impedance bandwidth of 200 MHz(2.32-2.52 GHz) for a VSWR < 2, which is suitable for 2.45-GHz ISM band (2.4-2.48 GHz). The measured radiation patterns show ${\infty}$-shaped directional pattern in the E-plane and nearly omni-directional pattern in the H-plane with a peak gain of 2.0 dBi, which are similar to those of a monopole antenna. The proposed antenna is expected to be suitable for the applications as antennas for WLAN, RFID, and mobile handset.

Miniaturized CPW-fed Folded Slot Antenna (소형화된 CPW 급전 폴디드 슬롯 안테나)

  • In the present study, we proposed newly a CPW-fed miniaturized folded-slot antenna with open ended slot for WCDMA (1.92 ~ 2.17 GHz) band. Open-ended slots and asymmetric ground plane are used for a miniaturization of the antenna, and the proposed antenna was designed and fabricated on a FR-4 substrate with dielectric constant 4.3, thickness of 1.6 mm, and size of 35×70 ㎟. The measured impedance bandwidths (|S11| ≤ -10 dB) of fabricated antenna is about 400 MHz (1.86 ~ 2.26 GHz), which sufficiently satisfied interested band. Furthermore, the gain of antenna is 2 dBi and this antenna shows a similar radiation patterns of the dipole antenna. Therefore, it is expected to be used usefully in wireless and mobile communication device.

  • In this paper, we studied a design method for obtaining broadband property by loading a chip capacitor on a coplanar waveguide(CPW)-fed compact quasi-Yagi antenna(QYA). The proposed antenna is a three-element QYA with dipole, reflector, and director. To reduce the size, the ends of both dipole and reflector are bent, and balun is incorporated in the antenna. To improve impedance matching, the loading position and capacitance value of chip capacitor were determined. From some simulations, the proposed antenna using an FR4 substrate with a size of 90 mm by 90 mm was designed for the operation in a broadband covering the UHF RFID and GPS systems. The antenna showed a good performance with a broadband of 850-1,626 MHz(62.7%) for a VSWR ${\leq}2$, a gain ${\geq}3dBi$, and a frong-to-back ratio ${\geq}4.6dB$.

Design of Miniaturized CPW-fed Slot Antenna for 2.45 GHz WLAN Band Applications (2.45 GHz 무선 랜 대역 응용을 위한 소형 CPW급전 슬롯 안테나 설계)

  • In this paper, a design method for a compact CPW-fed slot antenna using SRRs(split-ring resonators) is studied. The structure of the proposed slot antenna is a rectangular slot antenna loaded with SRR conductors inside the slot to reduce the antenna size. Optimal design parameters are obtained by analyzing the effects of the gap between the SRR conductors and slot, and the width of the SRR conductors on the input reflection coefficient characteristic. The optimized compact slot antenna operating at 2.45 GHz band is fabricated on an FR4 substrate with a dimension of 36 mm by 30 mm. The length of the proposed compact slot antenna is reduced by 14.3% compared to that of a conventional rectangular slot antenna. Experiment results show that the antenna has a desired impedance characteristic with a frequency band of 2.4-2.49 GHz for a VSWR < 2.

CPW-fed UWB Monopole Paper Antenna (CPW 급전 UWB 모노폴 종이 안테나)

  • This paper presents a novel CPW-fed UWB monopole paper antenna made by paper and copper tape. Through the simulation, the optimized antenna design parameters were obtained, and an antenna having an omni-directional radiation pattern and a gain of 2.2 dBi or more in the UWB frequency band of 3.1-10.6 GHz was designed. The antenna was manufactured using general A4 paper and copper tape, and the measurement result satisfies the return loss of -10dB or less in the UWB frequency band and confirm that the return loss characteristic was maintained even when the antenna plane was bent by 3 mm in the longitudinal direction. The proposed antenna is a wearable device that can provide services in the UWB band, and can be manufactured inexpensively by printing it with a conductive print on paper. So it can be used as a wearable antenna for UWB communication in various application fields such as logistics and disposable terminals.

  • In this paper, a dual-band CPW antenna is designed with the aid of Genetic Algorithm and Finite-Difference Time-Domain method. The design goal is to minimize the magnitude of S$\sub$11/ in the frequency band between 1.8㎓ and 2.4㎓. The resonance frequencies are shifted by about 80MHz and 50MHz from the desired frequencies at 1.8㎓ and 2.4㎓ respectively. But the bandwidth agrees well with that of Simulation.

  • In This paper, a microstrip slot antenna is designed and fabricated for wireless LAN at 5.8GHz band. The microstrip slot antenna is fed by CPW and formed the inductively slot and tile capacitively slot. To obtain wideband, the inductively slot is designed at 5.3GHz and the capacitively slot is designed at 5.8GHz. Resonant frequency of the fabricated microstrip slol antenna is 5.BCD, the bandwidth for VS%<1.5 is 29% and the gain is 4.6dB. The 3-dB beamwidth of E-plane and H-plane is 80 “ and 120 ”, respectively

  • In this paper, a CPW fed rectangular slot antenna loaded with two slots for dual band operation is presented. This antenna operates at about 2.1GHz and 3.3GHz with the broad bandwidth at these frequencies. a CPW inset structure is used to match the antenna at the two seperated frequencies. Some prototypes of the proposed dual frequency antenna have been implemented. Experimental results are presented and discussed.
