  • Carbon nanotube(CNT) is one of the promising construction materials to produce concrete with high strength and durability by adding in the concrete mixtures from various researches. Also, its superior heat conductivity can be one of the options to develop self-heating concrete. In this research, the fundamental study was conducted to investigate mechanical properties and microstructures of cement pastes and mortars by strength tests and porosity measurement with several CNT additions, which were 0 wt%, 0.115 wt%, 0.23 wt% and 0.46 wt% of CNT-cement ratio. Compressive and flexural strength test were conducted at 3, 7 and 28 days, and pore characteristics were investigated by mercury intrusion porosimetry. SEM-EDS and Thermogravimetric analysis(TGA) were conducted to prove the hydration product types and CNT dispersion in the cement matrix. As a result, even though high amount of CNT additions were caused worse performance, mixtures with 0.115 wt% of CNTs developed the similar performance with plain mixture.

  • Rheological and electrical properties of polystyrene (PS)/carbon nanotube (CNT) nanocomposites via coagulated precipitation were investigated. Chemical modification and surfactant wrapping of CNT to improve the dispersion of CNTs may reduce the intrinsic properties of pristine CNT. To avoid this problem, PS and CNTs were dissolved and dispersed in dimethylformamide and then PS/CNT nanocomposites were prepared by the coagulated precipitation of CNT-dispersed PS solution in water. The coagulated precipitation method was highly effective enhancing the electrical conductivity of nanocomposites. Furthermore, the effect of adding poly(styrene-co-divinylbenzene) crosslinked particles to PS matrix on the rheological and electrical properties was investigated. With the addition of the crosslinked particles, the electrical percolation threshold of CNT reduced to 0.25 wt% and electrical conductivity increased further. It is speculated that CNTs in the volume occupied by crosslinked particles helped electrical pathway formation.

  • The $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$/CNT composite is prepared by ultrasound associated sol-gel method. The prepared composite is characterized by SEM, TEM, XRD and TG analysis, and their electrochemical behaviors are investigated by cyclic voltammetry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and charge-discharge test in 1M $LiBF_4$/PC electrolyte. From the results, it is identified that the $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$ nanoparticles coated on CNT surface have regular size with around 10~30 nm and spinel-framework structure. At the current rate of 20C, the discharge capacities of $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$/CNT composites with CNT contents of 15, 30 and 50 wt% are 57, 63 and $48mAhg^{-1}$, respectively, which have similar value. The improved electrochemical behavior of the $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$/CNT composite electrode is attributed to the addition of CNT with electronic conductivity.

  • With several different dosages of multi-walled CNTs which was 0.1, 0.3, and 0.5% of the weight of binder, the fluidity in fresh CNT cement composites, as well as the strength and strength development with age of the hardened composites were investigated in this experimental study. The experimental results from flow test indicated that the increase in the dosage of CNTs badly impacted on the workability of fresh composites, and the results from rheological measurements presented the decrease in plastic viscosity and the increase in yield stress according to the amount of CNTs. In addition, the thixotrophy in the flow curve obtained from the rheology test was observed more noticeably in the composites with higher dosage of CNTs. With the experiments on the strength properties, the improvement of both compressive and tensile strengths with the increase of CNTs dosage could be obtained. Moreover, early strength development by adding CNTs was found when it was compared with plain cementious matrix without CNT.

  • Although the screen printing technology using photosensitive carbon nanotube (CNT) paste has many advantages such as low cost, simple process, uniform emission, and capability of mass production, the CNT paste needs to be improved further in CNT dispersion, printability, adhesion, electrical conductivity, population of CNT emitters, etc. Ball milling has been frequently employed to prepare the CNT paste as ball milling can mix its ingredients very well and easily cut the long, entangled CNTs. This study carried out a parametric approach to fabricating the CNT paste in terms of low-energy ball milling and a paste composition. Field emission properties of the CNT paste was characterized with CNT dispersion and electrical conductivity which were measured by a UV-Vis spectrophotometer and a 4-point probe method, respectively. Main variables in formulating the CNT paste include a length of milling time, and amounts of CNTs and conductive inorganic fillers. In particular, we varied not only the contents of conductive fillers but also used two different sizes of filler particles of ${\mu}m$ and nm ranges. Among many variations of conductive fillers, the best field emission characteristics occurred at the 5 wt% fillers with the mixing ratio of 3:1 for ${\mu}m$-and nm-sizes. The amount and size of fillers has a great effect on the morphology, processing stability, and field emission characteristics of CNT emitter dots. The addition a small amount of nm-size fillers considerably improved the field emission characteristics of the photosensitive CNT paste.

  • Nanosized Pt, Pt-Ru and Pt-$CeO_2$ electrocatalysts supported on acid-treated carbon nanotube (CNT) were synthesized by microwave-assisted heating of polyol process using $H_2Cl_6Pt{\cdot}6H_2O$, $RuCl_3$, $CeCl_3$ precursors, respectively, and were characterized by XRD and TEM. And then the electrochemical activity of methanol oxidation for catalyst/CNT nanocomposite electrodes was investigated. The microwave assisted polyol process produced the nano-sized crystalline catalysts particles on CNT. The size of Pt supported on CNT was 7~12 nm but it decreased to 3~5 nm in which 10wt% sodium acetate was added as a stabilizer during the polyol process. This fine Pt catalyst particles resulted in a higher current density for Pt/CNT electrode. It was also found that 10 nm size of PtRu alloys were formed by polyol process and the onset potential decreased with Ru addition. Cyclic voltammetry analysis revealed that the $Pt_{75}Ru_{25}/CNT$ electrode had the highest electrochemical activity owing to a higher ratio of the forward to reverse anodic peak current. And the chronoamperemetry test showed that $Pt_{75}Ru_{25}$ catalyst had a good catalyst stability. The activity of Pt was also found to be improved with the addition of $CeO_2$.

  • This paper conducted the study on the electromagnetic and mechanical applicability of CNT-coated glass fiber for wind blades. Large-size wind blade has the serious pending problems to meet the target, such as interfering radar signals, increasing weights, and increasing repair costs. In this paper, we are suggesting the CNT-coated glass fiber in order to overcome these problems. First, the CNTs were strongly coated on the surfaces of glass fiber by suggested coating process, and the CNT-coated glass fiber/epoxy composites were fabricated by Va-RTM process. We designed and fabricated a radar absorbing structure using the CNT-coated glass fiber, which showed over 90% radar absorbing performance between 8.3 and 12.1 GHz frequency. In addition, we confirmed the improvement of mechanical properties on the strength and modulus of tensile, compressive, and in-plane shear.

  • This article reports the drag reduction phenomenon of aqueous suspensions containing carbon nanotubes (CNTs) flowing through horizontal tubes. Stable nanofluids were prepared by using a surfactant. It is found that the drag forces of CNT nanofluids were reduced at specific flow conditions compared to the base fluid. It is found that the friction factor of CNT nanofluids was reduced up to approximately 30 % by using CNT nanofluids. Increased kinematic viscosities of CNT nanofluids are suggested to the key factors that cause the drag reduction phenomenon. In addition, transition from laminar to turbulent flow is observed to be delayed when CNT nanofluids flow in a horizontal tube, meaning that drag reduction occurs at higher flow rates, that is, at higher Reynolds numbers.

  • In this study, materials characterization of pure copper and copper based carbon nano-tube composite prepared by powder metallurgy method were investigated. Prior to evaluate materials characterization, spark plasma sintering processing variables such as sintering temperature, pressure, thickness and diameter of compacts was optimized to ensure the microstructure and materials property of pure Cu and Cu-CNT composite. In addition, corrosion behavior of Cu-based CNT composite produced by powder sintering method was investigated. It was confirmed from this study that the corroded surfaces of the composite shows less dissolution compared with pure copper in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution. The measured corrosion current density (Icorr) indicates improved corrosion property of Cu based composite containing small additions of CNTs in chloride containing media. Micro-galvanic activity between Cu and CNT was not observed in given sintering condition.

  • Carbon nanotube(CNT) materials are expected a stable current collector without the phenomena such as oxidizing and melting of grid by redox electrolyte and with low cost. In this paper, two types of dye-sensitized solar cells(DSSCs) with Pt abd CNT as a counter electrode were fabricated, then the energy conversion efficiency characteristics were investigated. The main purpose of this study is to find out the possibility of CNT material as cheap current collector of a large scale DSSC module. In addition, the Hall coefficient were measured by using FCM analysis.
