The effects of gellan gum (from S. paucimobilis), EPS-CB (exopolysaccharide from S. chungbukensis), and a series of commercial gums (arabic gum, xanthan gum, guar gum, deacyl gellan gum), on the swelling, rheological, and pasting properties of non-waxy rice flour dispersions were investigated. The swelling properties of rice flours in gellan or guar gum dispersion after heating were found to have increased with increasing gum concentrations, but the swelling properties of rice flour/other gum systems decreased with increasing concentrations. The rice flour/gum mixtures showed high shear-thinning flow behavior (n=0.14-0.32), and consistency index (K) was higher in guar gum than other gum dispersions. The initial pasting temperatures and peak times increased along with increasing gum concentration. The peak viscosity of rice flour increased in guar gum and deacyl gellan dispersions, and the breakdown and setback viscosity of the rice flour paste was lowest in the xanthan gum system, but remained higher than those of the control. The apparent viscosities of the rice flour/gellan gum mixture pastes were the highest among the tested combinations.
In this study, a facile two-step pretreatment method was investigated for producing fermentable sugars. Rice straw was pretreated using electron beam irradiation (EBI) and 4-methylmorpholine-N-oxide (NMMO) prior to enzymatic hydrolysis. In the first stage, the EBI on the rice straw was carried out at various doses (100, 300, 500 kGy) and then, irradiated rice straw was stirred with NMMO solution at 120°C for 1 h for the second stage. The pretreated rice straw was hydrolyzed by cellulase 1.5 L (70 FPU/ml) and Novozyme-188 (40 CbU/ml) at 50°C for 24, 48, and 72 h. A sugar yield of 83.8% was obtained from the pretreated rice straw after 72 h of enzymatic hydrolysis. Also, FTIR and XRD results indicate that the pretreatment of the rice straw was effective due to the synergic effects of the two-step pretreatment. In conclusion, rice straw might be a potential substrate for bioethanol production by yeast fermentation.
We present domestic efforts for superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) application in the Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) grid and pending points at issue. KEPCO's decision to upgrade the 154 kV/22.9 kV main transformer from 60 MVA to 100 MVA cast a problem of high fault current in the 22.9 kV distribution lines. The grid planners supported adopting an SFCL to control the fault current. This environment friendly to SFCL application must be highly dependent upon the successful development of SFCL having specifications that domestic utility required. The required conditions are (1) small size of not greater than twice of 22.9 kV gas insulated switch-gear (GIS), (2) sustainability of current limitation without the line breaking by circuit breakers (CB) for maximum 1.5 seconds. Also, optionally, recommended is (3) the reclosing capability. Conventional resistive SFCLs do not meet (1) $\sim$ (3) all together. A hybrid SFCL is an excellent solution to meet the conditions. The hybrid SFCL consists of HTS SFCL components for fault detection and line commutation, a fast switch (FS) to break the primary path, and a limiter. This characteristic structure not only enables excellent current limiting performances and the reclosing capability, but also allows drastic reduction of HTS volume and small size of the cryostat, resulting in economic feasibility and compactness of the equipment. External current limiter also enables long term limitation since it is far less sensitive to heat generation than HTS. Semi-active operation is another advantage of the hybrid structure. We will discuss more pending points at issues such as maintenance-free long term operation, small size to accommodate the in-house substation, passive and active control, back-up plans, diagnosis, and so on.

Forty clinical isolates of Serratia marcescens were tested for their susceptibility to 19 antimicrobial drugs and studied on the molecular characteristics of R plasmids. Cefotaxime (Ct) was the most effective drug and only 2 (5%) strains were resistant to this drug. Thirteen to 18% of strains were resistant to cefoperazone (Cz), amikacin (Ak). and trimethoprim (Tp), and 28 to 40% were resistant to piperacillin (Pi), nalidixic acid (Na), gentamicin (Gm), and cefoxitin (Cx). A majority of strains were resistant to carbenicillin (Cb), tobramycin (Tp), kanamycin (Km), and cefamandole (Cd), and all to cephalothin. One half of the isolates were resistant to 10 or more drugs. $MIC_{90}$ of Pi to Gm-resistant strains (Gm') were 8 times higher than that to Gm-susceptible strains (Gm'), but $MIC_{90}$ of Ak, Cx, Ct, and Cz were almost the same between both Gm' and Gm' strains. Nine (23.7%) strains among 38 of multiply drug-resistant S. marcescens transferred conjugally their partial patterns of resistance to E. coli or Klebsiella strains, and two S. marcescens strains producing bacteriocin transferred their resistance to Klebsiella only, but not to E. coli. The plasmid profiles of S. marcescens were studied by the methods of SDS lysis and agarose gel electrophoresis. Twenty-four (60%) strains carried one to four plasmids of 1.4. to 144 Mdal, and conjugative R plasmids of 49 to 127 Mdal were noted in transconjugants. MIC levels of drugs in transconjugants were variable by the R plasmids and recipient strains.
This paper presents a study that attempted to improve the site applicability of profile sheets and check the effects of bending reinforcement in composite profiled beams, and consequently, to suggest an improved modular-type CB2 and two types of bending reinforcement methods. As a result of the reinforcing and reforming modular profiled beam experiment conducted, CBIIshowed an adequate deformation capacity as well as a sufficient plastic plateau at the maximum load and thereafter. For all the specimens, an insignificant modular slip occurred while linear relations were kept constant, at up to approximately 50% of the maximum load and at constant linear relations. The experimental values were very low. Probably, due to the small-scale experiment, the area of the concrete for the concrete filling and covering might have been insufficient, which might have led to the failure to improve the strength. Comparing the results with the standard design stress, all the specimens-except for T16 and B16-indicated more than 0.9. Based on the standard design stress, the reinforced modular profiled beam was consideredto have positive applicability.
Objectives : This study has been carried out to understand the effect of Cimicifugae Rhizoma and Seungmagalgeuntang on the hyperglycemic mice induced with Streptozotocin(STZ). Methods : The 60mg/kg of STZ was fed into mice twice by 24 h interval and then 120mg/kg STZ was fed again 3 days after the earlier feeding, Control group was administered mice with 0.9% saline(2mL/kg/day), and experimental groups were administered Cimicifugae Rhizoma extract(CA group, 10mg/kg/day; CB group, 30mg/kg/day) or Seungmagalgeuntang(SA group, 10mg/kg/day; SB group, 30mg/kg/day) after hyperglycemic induction for 6 weeks. Results : The body weight of experimental groups higher than control. The blood glucose concentration of the control group increased continuously reaching to 298.9 mg/dL after 6 weeks, however, significantly(p<0.01 or p<0.05) decreased in the SA and SB groups compared with control group. Blood insulin level significantly(p<0.01) increased in the experimental groups. The activities of SOD and catalase were more decreased in the experimental group than control group compared with normal group. In the point of pancreatic immunohistochemical change, the experimental group's pancreatic islets have increased and enlarged and the concentration of insulin-positive beta cells has also increased, comparing with the control group. Meanwhile forms of nucleus and mitochondria in the experimental group's hepatic cells were almost similar to the normal group. Conclusion : The result from the six weeks of observation demonstrates that the extracts from Cimicifugae Rhizoma and Seungmagalgeuntang have positive effects on lowering blood sugar level and elevating insulin concentration. The extract had also effects on recovering and regenerating pancreatic tissue of the hyperglycemic mice induced with STZ. At the same time, it had a protective effect against hepatotoxicity as well.

TPDex, a putative dextranase from Thermoanaerobacter pseudethanolicus, was purified as a single 70 kDa band of 7.37 U/mg. Its optimum pH was 5.2 and the enzyme was stable between pH 3.1 and 8.5 at $70^{\circ}C$. A half-life comparison showed that TPDex was stable for 7.4 h at $70^{\circ}C$, whereas Chaetominum dextranase (CEDex), currently used as a dextranase for sugar milling, was stable at $55^{\circ}C$. TPDex showed broad dextranase activity regardless of dextran types, including dextran T2000, 742CB dextran, and alternan. TPDex showed the highest thermostability among the characterized dextranases, and may be a suitable enzyme for use in sugar manufacture without decreased temperature.

Currently the mobile web service is growing with a tremendous speed and mobile contents are spreading extensively. However, it is hard to search what the user wants because of some limitations of cellular phones. And the music is the most popular content, but many users experience frustrations to search their desired music. To solve these problems, this research proposes a hybrid recommendation system, MOBICORS-music (MOBIle COntents Recommender System for Music). Basically it follows the procedure of Collaborative Filtering (CF) system, but it uses Contents-Based (CB) data representation for neighborhood formation and recommendation of new music. Based on this data representation, MOBICORS-music solves the new item ramp-up problem and results better performance than existing CF systems. The procedure of MOBICORS-music is explained step by step with an illustrative example.

This study tried to analyze sensual properties by classifying the thermal water extract of the main material used in Ssanghwa tea. Through this study, we wanted to develop popular Ssanghwa tea and further carry out basic research for the development of various menus using it. The ingredients for the Ssanghwa tea were washed under running water, then dehydrated and put in a pot as 2L of purified water. Ssangwha tea were heated at 100℃ for 10 minutes, then lowered the temperature to 75℃ and boiled down to 200 ml for 110 minutes. This study evaluated sensory characteristics of four types of commercial products and the five types manufactured by the description analysis. Quantitative analysis of the commercial Ssanghwa tea showed significant differences between samples in seven of the total 13 sensory characteristics except OG(Smell of grass), OC(Oriental medicine smell), TG(Umami), RT(Thick), RC(Rough) and RS(Tub-Tub) (p<0.05). In particular, differences between samples were evident in CT(Transmittance), CB(Brownness), TW(Sweet taste) and TB(Bitter) (p<0.001), which appeared to be the main differentiated features of appearance, aroma and taste for commercial Ssanghwa tea. This study tried to analyze sensual properties by classifying the thermal water extract of the main material used in Ssanghwa tea. Through, we wanted to develop popular Ssanghwa tea and further carry out basic research for the development of various menus using it.
