Synchronous Control of Center Distributed Multi-Head Embroidery Machine Using Disturbance Observer (외란 관측기를 이용한 중앙 분산형 다두 자수기의 동기제어)

  • This paper proposes the center distributed embroidery machine structure with 1,500 RPM, 52 heads for productivity and large sized embroidery goods. The synchronous velocity controller is adopted for control of the 2-axis distributed embroidery machine and the DOB(Disturbance Observer) is also adopted for minimizing disturbances caused by needle cams. For driving experiments of 2-axis center distributed driving structure, two conventional 26 heads 1,500RPM embroidery machines are used. It was shown that the center distributed driving structure with 2-axis synchronous control can be one way for implementing a large embroidery machine.

  • A method for the design of a disk cam with a remote follower is presented. ADAMS software is utilized for the design process. The whole process is applied for the design of a cam profile to be used in a tappet shedding device of a shuttle loom. First the desired motion of the remote follower, the hearld frame in this case, is determined to improve the characteristic of a certain weaving process. Next, the desired displacement data is input to the ADAMS software and the cam profile is obtained as an output. To test the validity of the proposed method, designed cams were actually manufactured and implemented on a experimental loom. And with the help of potentiometer type displacement transducers, the motion of the remote followers were actually recorded. And the result was sufficient to prove the validity of the presented method.

  • In this paper, we developed an algorithm of generating cam contour curve for hinge mechanism of folder-type mobile phone. The main feature of this hinge mechanism is that we can operate uniform torque to open or close the mobile phone. We divided the opening or closing intervals of the cam into finite sub-intervals, and then we determined the cam contour curve of each sub-interval as a parabolic curve. Finally, these finite parabolic curves form the total cam contour. We can design single cam, which composed moving cam with contour curve and fixed cam that plays only roller, and twin cam with contour curve that is made up the pair of two cams symmetrically.

Study on the Design of Cam-type Transfer Unit (대형 캠 타입 이송장치의 설계에 관한 연구)

  • This paper presents design solutions for cam type transfer unit in which feeding, lifting, and clamping motions are generated by cams. In order to achieve faster transfer motion, each designed cam must satisfy the given specifications such as velocity, acceleration, jerk, pressure angle, cam thickness, and torque. To reduce absolute torque magnitude and torque variation, a conjugate cam and a torque reduction cam are used respectively. The conjugate cam eliminates the redundant pre-load by using complementary cam to avoid jumping between a cam and a follower. The torque reduction cam reduces the torque variation by applying opposite torque to a cam shaft. The experimental result shows the reductions of the absolute torque value and torque variation. The improvement of working speed and life span of cam type transfer unit can be expected.

  • Cam mechanisms are one of the most popular devices for generating irregular motion and are widely used in many automatic equipments, such as textile machinery, internal combustion engines and other automatic devices. In order to obtain the positive motion of follower by rotating cam, its shape should be correctly designed and manufactured. In present paper, a CAD/CAM system is developed for shape design of disk cams using relative velocity method and NC code generation using the biarc curve interpolation. And, a disk cam is successfully manufactured by the developed CAD/CAM system. Thus, it is shown that the developed CAD/CAM system can be used for high precision cam profile CNC grinding machine.

  • Pharmacological approaches have been included in conventional medical treatment for insomnia or sleep disorders. However, long-term use of frequently prescribed medications can often lead to habituation, critical withdrawal symptoms and/or side effects. Some individuals with insomnia or trouble sleeping have used complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) therapies to treat their conditions. Recently, CAMs or herbs have been attractive alternative medications to many patients with sleep disorders who may be averse to using conventional drugs. We reviewed the most widely available sleep-promoting herbs commonly used in the western and oriental countries.

  • Tumor metastasis remains the principal cause of treatment failure and poor prognosis in patients with colorectal cancer. It is a multistage process which includes proteolysis, motility and migration of cells, proliferation in a new site, and neoangiogenesis. A crucial step in the process of intra- and extra-vasation is the activation of proteolytic enzymes capable of degrading the extracellular matrix (ECM). In this stage, urokinase plasminogen activator receptor (uPAR) and matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are necessary. Micrometastases need the presence of growth factor and vascular growth factor so that they can form macrometastasis. In addition, cell adhesion molecules (CAMs) and guanine nucleotide exchange factors (GEFs) play important roles in the progression of colorectal cancer and metastatic migration. Further elucidation of the mechanisms of how these molecules contribute will aid in the identification of diagnostic and prognostic markers as well as therapeutic targets for patients with colorectal metastasis.

Baicalin, baicalein and wogonin inhibits high glucose-induced vascular inflammation in vitro and in vivo

  • Vascular inflammatory process has been suggested to play a key role in initiation and progression of atherosclerosis, a major complication of diabetes mellitus. Thus, in this study, we attempted to determine whether three structurally related polyphenols found in the Chinese herb Huang Qui, namely baicalin, baicalein, and wogonin, can suppress vascular inflammatory processes induced by high glucose (HG) in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) and mice. Data showed that HG induced markedly increased vascular permeability, monocyte adhesion, expressions of cell adhesion molecules (CAMs), formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and activation of nuclear factor (NF)-κB. Remarkably, all of the above mentioned vascular inflammatory effects of HG were attenuated by pretreatment with baicalin, baicalein, and wogonin. Vascular inflammatory responses induced by HG are critical events underlying development of various diabetic complications, therefore, our results suggest that baicalin, baicalein, and wogonin may have significant therapeutic benefits against diabetic complications and atherosclerosis.   • This thesis suggests design considerations and solutions for cam type transfer unit in which feed, lift, and clamp motions are occurred by cams. For fast transferring and avoiding cam breakage, each designed cam must satisfy the given specifications such like velocity, acceleration, jerk, pressure angle, ram thickness, and torque. To reduce absolute torque magnitude, conjugate cam is suggested. Conjugate cam eliminates the redundant pre-load by using complementary cam and follower to avoid jumping between them. The result from the prototype shows the reductions of the absolute torque value, and it indicates that conjugate cam could enhance the working speed of cam type transfer unit and extend of the life span of cam type transfer unit.

Pathway and Network Analysis in Glioma with the Partial Least Squares Method

  • Gene expression profiling facilitates the understanding of biological characteristics of gliomas. Previous studies mainly used regression/variance analysis without considering various background biological and environmental factors. The aim of this study was to investigate gene expression differences between grade III and IV gliomas through partial least squares (PLS) based analysis. The expression data set was from the Gene Expression Omnibus database. PLS based analysis was performed with the R statistical software. A total of 1,378 differentially expressed genes were identified. Survival analysis identified four pathways, including Prion diseases, colorectal cancer, CAMs, and PI3K-Akt signaling, which may be related with the prognosis of the patients. Network analysis identified two hub genes, ELAVL1 and FN1, which have been reported to be related with glioma previously. Our results provide new understanding of glioma pathogenesis and prognosis with the hope to offer theoretical support for future therapeutic studies.
