  • This study aims to contribute to the existing literature in creativity from the viewpoint of neuro-physiological analysis. Further, we looked at emotional influences on creativity within a business problem-solving context that implemented the use of a cognitive map in exploring creativity. For this purpose, we measured brain cortical activity as people solved a business strategy problem to explore the neural mechanisms of "insight problems" that are influenced by distinct emotions. Through an Electroencephalography (EEG) analysis of 34 qualified participants, we investigated the relationship between emotions and business problem-solving creativity (BPSC). Insightful results were derived such that participants primed in a negative condition evoked higher temporal alpha band activity compared to those primed in the positive condition. Meanwhile, there were no significant differences between two priming conditions on the other band activities. Therefore, this study sheds a very positive light on the scholarly value of conducting rigorous studies about the relationship between emotional states and BPSC status.

  • The purpose of this study is to confirm the moderating effect of the 'IRrelevance Processing'(IRP) on the relationship between decision maker's openness and business problem solving creativity (BPSC). In order to confirm the psychological mechanism of BPSC and openness, we developed the irrelevance processing. In particular, the creativity in this study is different from the general creativity studied in psychology. BPSC is a study with practical value applied in the management environment. The results showed that openness of the decision maker was correlated with the BPSC, and that the irrelevance processing was a psychological mechanism to moderating effects relationship between openness of decision makers and BPSC. This paper proved the correlation between the propensity of decision makers and BPSC, and contributed to the study of corporate creativity by identifying the psychological mechanisms.

  • Fashion professionals these days agree that changes in the fashion business are essential and highly value creativity as a genuine source for generating new ideas in fashion products as well as fashion business practices. As fashion professionals deal with problems of which solutions do not exist or that need innovative solutions for brand or product differentiation in the fast-paced environments, interest in creativity and creative problem solving in the field has increased; therefore, fashion educators have realized that there has been an increasing need for incorporating creativity or creative problem solving into the fashion curriculum. In this study, the researcher intended to review previous research on the use of creative problem solving in classrooms in various disciplines including the field of fashion education to provide insights and suggestions for fashion educators to integrate creative problem solving into the fashion education curriculum. Previous attempts to apply creative problem solving to solve issues in fashion classrooms have mostly limited to promoting divergent thinking techniques. It is suggested for fashion educators as well as fashion students to consider creative problem solving as a process consisting of the four distinct stages in which both divergent and convergent thinking techniques should be properly utilized stimulating various thinking strategies.

  • With the development of artificial intelligence, efforts to incorporate neuroscience mining with AI have increased. Neuroscience mining, also known as NSM, expands on this concept by combining computational neuroscience and business analytics. Using fNIRS (functional near-infrared spectroscopy)-based experiment dataset, we have investigated the potential of NSM in the context of the BPSC (business problem-solving creativity) prediction. Although BPSC is regarded as an essential business differentiator and a difficult cognitive resource to imitate, measuring it is a challenging task. In the context of NSM, appropriate methods for assessing and predicting BPSC are still in their infancy. In this sense, we propose a novel NSM method that systematically combines CNN, BiLSTM, and attention network for the sake of enhancing the BPSC prediction performance significantly. We utilized a dataset containing over 150 thousand fNIRS-measured data points to evaluate the validity of our proposed NSM method. Empirical evidence demonstrates that the proposed NSM method reveals the most robust performance when compared to benchmarking methods.

  • The importance of business problem-solving creativity (BPSC) becomes crucial much more as competitive situations go on in the market. However, how to assess the BPSC remains an unsolved research issue yet in the literature. In this sense, this study proposes an exploratory analysis of the BPSC from the view of neuro-science experiments called fNIRS. The fNIRS represents a functional near-infrared spectroscopy, a new type of neuro-science research paradigm. This study proposes an exploratory level of how to conduct the fNIRS-based experiments to analyze the BPSC.

  • To produce highly creative students, engineering education must develop both problem recognition skills and the ability to solve problems independently. Chonnam National University has been developing a creativity program in which students identify and solve problems themselves. Initially, the primary focus was on solving problems, but this was unsuccessful at attracting the students' interest. To overcome this, we adopted Csikszentmihalyi's flow theory in our creativity program, much like the way this theory is used in computer games. As a result of adopting flow theory, we achieved our goal. Thus, in this paper, we will introduce Chonnam National University's creativity program (designed based on flow theory), which we will call the Self-Directed Creativity-Upgrade Program. Furthermore, we will discuss the impact of this program based on statistical analyses.

  • A teaching manual was developed to incorporate the creative problem solving process into a fashion marking course. Students' creativity, problem solving, critical thinking, and analytical thinking are promoted by applying the creative problem solving process systematically to solve authentic business problems experienced by local apparel business owners. This teaching manual is based on the FourSight Model that consists of Clarify, Ideate, Develop, and Implement. Various tools promoting divergent thinking are also utilized in the process. A local fashion business is invited as a problem owner and four resource groups are formed with students based on the results of the Kirton Adaption Innovation Inventory. Each resource group consists of 6-8 students. The creative problem solving process is implemented into a classroom setting as four 75-minutes sessions that are held twice a week for two consecutive weeks. The local fashion business owner will be in presence during the first (Clarify) and last (Implement) sessions. The instructor facilitator meets with the problem owner outside the classroom three times including pre-session client interview, after the second (Ideate) session, and before the third (Develop) session. This modified CPS manual for fashion marketing and merchandising courses provides practical guidelines to work with local fashion businesses while providing students with learning opportunities of the creative problem solving process.

  • This study identified the factors that influence the problem solving intention of students who completed the action learning-based creativity programs based on the theory of reasoned action, and examined the influence relationship between these factors. As a result of the study, first, subjective norms of problem solving had a positive effect on problem solving intention, and second, attitude toward problem solving had a significant effect on problem solving intention. Third, it was found that students who had experience of participating in a patent education program applying the action learning methodology had a positive effect on the relationship between their attitude toward problem solving and their intention to solve the problem. These findings confirmed that in order to enhance the problem-solving intention, which is the basis for creativity of university students, it is important to spread the positive value of problem-solving within the university and to give students a positive attitude toward problem solving.
