  • The study of HTS bulk in permanent magnet applications requires the calculation of forces acting on the bulk. Currents distribution in HTS Superconducting bulk is very important to determine this forces. We have made computer program to find this current distribution and this program is applied to some simple disc-shape HTS bulk being magnetised in a uniform field. The techniques for determination of currents are FEM analysis and iteration method.

  • This paper presents basic queueing analysis contributing to teletraffc theory, with commonly accessible mathematical tools. This paper studies queueing systems with bulk arrivals. It is assumed that the number of arrivals and the expected number of arrivals in each bulk are bounded by some constraints B and (equation omitted), respectively. Subject to these constraints, convexity argument is used to show that the bulk-size probability distribution that results in the worst mean queue performance is an extremal distribution with support {1, B} and mean equal to A. Furthermore, from the viewpoint of security against denial-of-service attacks, this distribution remains the worst even if an adversary were allowed to choose the bulk-size distribution at each arrival instant as a function of past queue lengths; that is, the adversary can produce as bad queueing performance with an open-loop strategy as with any closed-loop strategy. These results are proven for an arbitrary arrival process with bulk arrivals and a general service model.

  • The aim of this study was to examine determinants of secondhand Bulk carrier and Oil tanker prices. This study compiled S& P transaction data taken from the Clarksons Research during J anuary 2018 to April 2022 to see how independent variables influenced secondhand ship prices. In the secondhand ship pricing model of entire segments, size, age, and LIBOR showed significant effects on prices. A vessel built in J apan and Korea was traded at a higher price than a vessel built in other countries. In the bulk segment, size, age, Clarksea index, LIBOR, and inflation were meaningful variables. In the Tanker segment, unlike Bulk carrier, only size and age were useful variables. This study performed regression analyses for various sizes of Bulk carriers and Oil tankers. It verified that impacts of variables other than ship size and age were significantly associated with ship type and size while macroeconomic variables had no influence except for bulk carriers. By applying diverse variables affecting secondhand ship price estimation according to various sizes of Bulk carriers and Oil tankers, this study will expand the scope of practical application for investors. It also reaffirms prior research findings that the secondhand ship market is primarily market-driven.

  • Leakage reduction through annular type labyrinth seals of steam turbine is necessary for enhancing their efficiency. In this study, modified geometry of the original combination-type-staggered-labyrinth seal has been suggested and numerical analysis for leakage prediction has been carried out for the modified-combination-type-staggered-labyrinth seal both based on bulk-flow model and using the CFD code FLUENT. The theoretical analysis based on bulk-flow model yields leakage reduction of the modified combination type staggered labyrinth seal by about 11%. Comparing with the result of Bulk-flow model analysis, the leakage result of CFD analysis shows reasonable agreement within 9.8% error.

  • The study of HTS(High Temperature Superconducting) bulk in magnetic levitation system requires the calculation of currents distribution in HTS bulk is very important to determine this forces. We have made computer program to find this current distribution and levitation force. J-E relation in HTS bulk is extremely nonlinear, so iteration method must be used to determine the current distribution. We developed the method to determine the current distribution in the unifrom-field model and, using this method, calculated the levitation force in permanent-magnet-levitation model.

  • Pores produced by carbonization in bulk graphite process degrade the mechanical and electrical properties of bulk graphite. Therefore, the pores of bulk graphite must be reduced and an impregnation process needs to be performed for this reason. In this study, bulk graphite is impregnated by varying the viscosity of the impregnant. The pore volume and pore size distribution, according to the viscosity of the impregnant, are analyzed using a porosimeter. The total pore volume of bulk graphite is analyzed from the cumulative amount of mercury penetrated. The volume for a specific pore size is interpreted as the amount of mercury penetrating into that pore size. This decreases the cumulative amount of mercury penetrating into the recarbonized bulk graphite after impregnation because the viscosity of the impregnant is lower. The cumulative amount of mercury penetrating into bulk graphite before impregnation and after three times of impregnation with 5.1cP are 0.144 mL/g and 0.125 mL/gm, respectively. Therefore, it is confirmed that the impregnant filled the pores of the bulk graphite well. In this study, the impregnant with 5.1 cP, which is the lowest viscosity, shows the best effect for reducing the total pore volume. In addition, it is confirmed by Raman analysis that the impregnant is filled inside the pores. It is confirmed that phenolic resin, the impregnant, exists inside the pores through micro-Raman analysis from the inside of the pore to the outside.

  • The International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) had developed the Common Structural Rules (CSR) for bulk carriers as per the needs noted above. ISO and IMO GBS (Goal-Based Standards) are now being developed in this regard. This study has been prepared to verity the strength of forward cargo hold of 82,000 DWT class bulk carriers. A cargo hold/tank 3-D FE model was established to assess the structural adequacy of the primary structural members with the loading conditions. Full breadth model was established for the analysis considering asymmetric nature of structural layout and loading conditions. To summarize this result of structural assessment based on IACS CRS for bulk carrier, it is benefit to design this kind of bulk carriers and to study the strength assessment for the similar type of bulk carriers.

  • There are several types of compressors which are appropriate for hydrogen gas station. Metal diaphragm type of hydrogen compressor is the one of them, a use in which satisfies the requirements of maintaining gas purity and producing high pressure over 700 bar. The objective of this study is to investigate an characteristics of compression as bulk modulus of oil varies. Three cases of bulk modulus ranging from $2{\times}10^9$, $4.52{\times}10^9$ and $7{\times}10^9$ were studied through FSI (Fluid Structure Interaction) analysis. Gas pressure, oil pressure and deflection degree of diaphragm were analysed during a certain period of compression process. Highest pressure and deflection were found in the condition of high bulk modulus of $7{\times}10^9$.
