Selecting Key Accident Risk Factors in Building Construction Projects (건축공사 주요 재해 위험요소 도출)

  • Building construction projects have various risk factors, so accidents is easily occurred in construction field. Therefore, many studies have been carried out to find methods for reducing such accidents. However, most of these studies have been focused to engineering factors, such as working methods and safety guards and equipments. The purpose of this study is to select the key accident risk factors in building construction projects. For this study, we identified the accident risk factors, which include engineering, education, and enforcement factors, and quantitatively evaluated these factors using an analytic hierarchical process. Identifying the key accident risk factors will help to reduce accidents in building construction projects.

Evaluation of mode-shape linearization for HFBB analysis of real tall buildings

  • The high frequency base balance (HFBB) technique is a convenient and relatively fast wind tunnel testing technique for predicting wind-induced forces for tall building design. While modern tall building design has seen a number architecturally remarkable buildings constructed recently, the characteristics of those buildings are significantly different to those that were common when the HFBB technique was originally developed. In particular, the prediction of generalized forces for buildings with 3-dimensional mode shapes has a number of inherent uncertainties and challenges that need to be overcome to accurately predict building loads and responses. As an alternative to the more conventional application of general mode shape correction factors, an analysis methodology, referred to as the linear-mode-shape (LMS) method, has been recently developed to allow better estimates of the generalized forces by establishing a new set of centers at which the translational mode shapes are linear. The LMS method was initially evaluated and compared with the methods using mode shape correction factors for a rectangular building, which was wind tunnel tested in isolation in an open terrain for five incident wind angles at $22.5^{\circ}$ increments from $0^{\circ}$ to $90^{\circ}$. The results demonstrated that the LMS method provides more accurate predictions of the wind-induced loads and building responses than the application of mode shape correction factors. The LMS method was subsequently applied to a tall building project in Hong Kong. The building considered in the current study is located in a heavily developed business district and surrounded by tall buildings and mixed terrain. The HFBB results validated the versatility of the LMS method for the structural design of an actual tall building subjected to the varied wind characteristics caused by the surroundings. In comparison, the application of mode shape correction factors in the HFBB analysis did not directly take into account the influence of the site specific characteristics on the actual wind loads, hence their estimates of the building responses have a higher variability.

Relation between the Building Exterior Conditions and Energy Costs in the Running period of the Apartment Housing (공동주택의 건물외부조건과 에너지비용과의 관계분석)

  • The energy cost is resulted from the energy use. Its sources are divided into some types and depended on the building use or energy-use type. The energy cost should be affected by the amount of the energy use. The cost could be calculated to consider various factors such as the insulation, heating type, building shape and others. But it can not consider all of the affect factors to the energy cost and need to categorize the factors to the condition for estimating the cost. In this paper, it aimed at providing the estimation model in linear equation and multiple linear regression, utilizing the building exterior condition and management characteristics in apartment housing. Its survey are conducted in two parts of management characteristics and building exterior condition. The correlation analysis is conducted to get rid of the multicolinearity among the inputted factors. The number of linear equation model is 11 and includes the 1st, 2nd and 3rd equation function, power function and others. Among these, it suggested the 2nd and 3rd function and power function in terms of the statistics. In multiple linear regression model, the building volume and management area are inputted to the estimation.

Risk Factors Influencing the Delays on the Remodeling Construction Works - Focused on Office Building Projects - (리모델링 공사의 공기지연을 야기하는 리스크 요인 - 오피스 건축물을 중심으로 -)

  • There have been frequent reports of schedule delays due to various risks of remodeling projects, which are different from new construction. Therefore, this study was carried out to analyze the risk factors inherent in the remodeling project and the likelihood of schedule delay occurrence in the remodeling construction work. To analyze the relationship between the risk factors and the likelihood of schedule delays of remodeling projects, (1) a prototype of the office building remodeling work was developed through the analysis of existing case and literature, (2) a questionnaire survey was conducted on 29 construction managers who have been or are currently conducting remodeling projects, and (3) after evaluating the reliability of the collected questionnaire results, the relationship between the two elements, which denotes (i) likelihood of schedule delays per each work, (ii) importance of risk factors, and (iii) risk factors affecting schedule delay in remodeling work, was suggested. Using the results of this study, it is expected to develop a plan for preventing the schedule delay of the office building remodeling work through control the risk factors that may cause schedule delays.

  • Energy consumption by buildings accounts for a large part of the world‘s energy consumption. Methods to analyze building energy consumption before construction have been studied for decades. With BIM (Building Information Modeling) technology, architects can easily export building information to data models in order to analyze the design‘s effect on building energy efficiency. Although several BIM-based energy simulation applications are currently available, utilizing these applications for energy efficiency simulation is difficult. In this paper, by comparing existing BIM-based energy applications, the authors test the building energy efficiencies estimated by some BIM models, offer ideas and solutions to problems that appeared during the test process and propose new methods for BIM-based energy evaluation based on quantitative factors.

  • The government has offered incentives to encourage private companies that are to meet the Green Building Certification Criteria. Despite offering these incentives, the Green Building Certification Criteria record share of newly-built building in 2010 is 0.35%, very low. Effectiveness of Green Building Incentive applied by the Green Building Certification Criteria is questioned. So we attempts to analysis about effectiveness of Green Building by using Cost-Benefit Analysis. But if we want to use CBA, we need to draw cost, benefit factors that compose the incentive. So in this study, for applying CBA, we analysis cost, benefit factors.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest analysis model of RCB construction in nuclear power plant. For the objective, This study drew the risk factors of RCB construction from existing literature. The results of the study proposed analysis model made hierarchy in rebar, form, and concrete work. These will be baseline data for risk management in construction project of nuclear power plant.

  • This study aims to establish a methodology for rational fire risk assessment for building evacuation safety in case of fire, and specifically, to propose a fire risk assessment technique using fire scenarios considering various uncertain factors in case of fire. In order to analyze the extent to which the assumed conditions can occur, that is, the probability of each accident caused by fire, the safety rate is analyzed according to the presence or absence of each factor by using fire statistics. Factors related to the fire protection performance and evacuation ability of buildings are defined as disaster factors. In this study, disaster factors were classified into the following three categories.

  • With the increasing demand for public housing, the Singapore government decided to reduce the waiting time of future public housing owners, which requires these projects to be completed on time. As a result, this study aims to identify the frequent and impactful factors affecting schedule performance of public housing projects in Singapore. The survey conducted with 36 industry experts revealed that "site management", "coordination among various parties", "design changes by owner during construction", "availability of laborers on site", "availability of material", and "availability of staff to manage projects" were the six factors that should be emphasized to assure the schedule performance of public housing projects. In addition, there was statistically significant agreement between public housing projects and other building projects on both the frequency and impact ranks of the factors. The findings from this study will help practitioners involving public housing projects to take measures to assure the achievement of project schedule objectives.

  • Performance based design(PBD) is the method to make a fire safety design against them after predicting the factors of fire risk in a building. Therefore, predicting fire risk in a building is very important process in PBD. For predicting fire risk of a building, an engineer of PBD must consider various factors such as ignition location, ignition point, ignition source, first ignited item, second ignited item, flash over, the state of door and fire suppression system. But, it is difficult to trust fire safety capacity of the design because the process in Korea' PBD is unprofessional and unreasonable. This paper had surveyed some cases of PBD that had been made in Korea to find the problems of the process to predict fire risk. And it have proposed the improvements of process to predict fire risk of a building.
