This work is a fundamental study for applying hybrid process coupling adsorption with microfiltration to waste-water treatment. Phenol was separated by adsorption on powdered activated carbon, adsorbed phenol with activated carbon was separated by microfiltration. As the particle size in suspension increased, filtration resistance decreased, and effect of particle concentration on resistance was less pronounced. The rate of uptake was greatly dependent on the degree of phenol loading. For a smaller amounts of activated carbon, the change of permeate concentration before break point and phenol loading with time were steeper than in the case of large amounts. Permeate concentration before break point decreased with decreasing particle size, this could be due to the increase of outer surface of particle and film mass transfer coefficient.

Mobile Ad Hoc Network(MANET) has highly dynamic topology, hence presents a great challenge on the network performance evaluation and network protocol design. We proposed total path break up time, $\sum_{i}T_i$, as a metric to measure the performance of the total system as well as an individual connection. In this paper, we evaluate and analyze the performance of three mobility models(Random Waypoint, Manhattan, Blocked Manhattan) by applying the total path break up metric, investigate why network parameters such as packet delivery ratio, end-to-end delay, etc. vary by mobility models. We also present analysis result how much AODV Buffer improve packet delivery ratio and increase the end-to-end delay in spite of the path break up.
In an effort to assess the performance of KAERI's coupled 3D kinetics - system T/H code, MARS/MASTER, Exercise III of the OECD main steam line break benchmark is solved. The analysis model of the reference plant, TMI-1 - a 2772 MWth B&W plant, consists of three major components: a core neutronics model involving 241$\times$28 neutronic nodes, a vessel 3D T/H model consisting of 374 hydrodynamic volumes, and a 1D system T/H model containing 157 hydrodynamic volumes. The results show that there is a significant amount of flow mixing occurring in the upper and lower plenum regions and the core power distribution evolves to a highly localized shape due to the presence of a stuck rod, as well as the asymmetric flow distribution. It is judged that MARS/MASTER properly captures these drastic 3-dimensional effects. Comparisons with other results submitted to OECD confirm the accuracy of the MARS/MASTER solution.
Crosslink density of a rubber vulcanizate determines the chemical and physical properties, while bound rubber is an important factor to estimate reinforcement of a filled rubber compound. Extender oil is added to a raw rubber with very high molecular weight for improving processability of a rubber composite. Influence of extender oil on crosslink density, bound rubber formation, and physical properties of solution styrene-butadiene rubber (SSBR) composites with differing microstructures was investigated. Crosslink densities of non-oil-extended SSBR (NO-SSBR) vulcanizates were higher than those of oil-extended SSBR (OE-SSBR) ones. Bound rubber contents of NO-SSBR compounds were also greater than those of OE-SSBR ones. The experimental results could be explained by interfering of extender oil. The OE-SSBR vulcanizates had low modulus but long elongation at break, whereas the NO-SSBR ones had high modulus but short elongation at break. It was found that the crosslink densities affected the physical properties more than the bound rubber contents. The moduli increased with increase in the crosslink density irrespective of extender oil, while the elongation at break decreased. Each variation of the tensile strengths of NO-SSBR and OE-SSBR vulcanizates with the crosslink density showed a decreasing trend. Tear strength of the OE-SSBR vulcanizate increased with increase in the crosslink density, whereas variation of the tear strength of NO-SSBR vulcanizate with the crosslink density showed a weak decreasing trend.
An experimental study was performed to investigate the effects of levee crest width and the slope steepness on levee break due to overtopping flow. The phenomenon of bank failure can be described in 4 stages. In this study, the magnitudes of breach width, breach depth peak discharge, and scouring shape at the break site were measured, and the result shows that peak discharge will be reduced and breach duration extended by widening the crown width and lessening the levee slope steepness. The breach width was narrower and the breach depth deeper, as the levee crest width become wider or the slope steeper. And, the bed scour depth was deeper and steeper, as the levee crest crest width become narrower or the slope milder.

The conventional electro-mechanical circuit break and relay are widely used in large-sized DC power system. However, recently due to high reliability, remote controllability and small power dissipation of a RSPC (Remote Solid State Power Controller), high-friendly DC power systems have increasingly adopted the RSPC as an essential element. In this paper, we have conducted the modeling of a RSPC circuit and the simulation analysis for $I^2t$ curve, respectively.

When a loss of coolant accident (LOCA) occurs in a nuclear power plant, accident scenarios which can prevent core damage are defined based on break size. Current probabilistic safety assessment evaluates that core damage can be prevented under small-break LOCA (SBLOCA) and steam generator tube rupture (SGTR) with rapid cool down (RCD) strategy when all safety injection systems are unavailable. However, previous research has pointed out a limitation of RCD in terms of initiation time. Therefore, RCD success criteria estimation based on allowable coping time under a SBLOCA or SGTR when all safety injection systems are unavailable was performed based on time-line and thermal-hydraulic analyses. The time line analysis assumed a single emergency operating procedure flow, and the thermal hydraulic analysis utilized MARS-KS code with variables of break size, cooling rate, and operator allowable time. Results show while RCD is possible under SGTR, it is impossible under SBLOCA at the APR1400's current cooling rate limitation of 55 K/hr. A success criteria map for RCD under SBLOCA is suggested without cooling rate limitation.

Background: The high cost of intrathecal morphine pump (ITMP) implantation may be the main obstacle to its use. Since July 2014, the Korean national health insurance (NHI) program began paying 50% of the ITMP implantation cost in select refractory chronic pain patients. The aims of this study were to investigate the financial break-even point and patients' satisfaction in patients with ITMP treatment after the initiation of the NHI reimbursement. Methods: We collected data retrospectively or via direct phone calls to patients who underwent ITMP implantation at a single university-based tertiary hospital between July 2014 and May 2016. Pain severity, changes in the morphine equivalent daily dosage (MEDD), any adverse events, and patients' satisfaction were determined. We calculated the financial break-even point of ITMP implantation via investigating the patient's actual medical costs and insurance information. Results: During the studied period, 23 patients received ITMP implantation, and 20 patients were included in our study. Scores on an 11-point numeric rating scale (NRS) for pain were significantly reduced compared to the baseline value (P < 0.001). The MEDD before ITMP implantation was 0.59 [IQR: 0.55-0.82]. The total MEDD increased steadily to 0.77 [IQR: 0.53-1.08] at 1 year, which was 126% of the baseline (P < 0.001). More than a half (60%) responded that the ITMP therapy was somewhat satisfying. The financial break-even point was 28 months for ITMP treatment after the NHI reimbursement policy. Conclusions: ITMP provided effective chronic pain management with improved satisfaction and reasonable financial break-even point of 28 months with 50% financial coverage by NHI program.
In this paper proportional hazards models for the first through seventh break of 150 mm cast iron pipes in a case study area are established. During the modeling process the assumption of the proportional hazards for covariates on the hazards is examined to include the time-dependent covariate terms in the models. As a result, the pipe material/joint type and the number of customers are modeled as time-dependent for the first failure, and for the second failure only the number of customers is modeled as time-dependent. From the analysis on the baseline hazard functions the failure hazards are found to be generally increasing for the first and second failure, while the hazards of the third break and beyond showed a form of a bath-tub. Furthermore, the changes in the baseline hazard rates according to the time and number of break reflect that the general condition of the pipes is deteriorating. The factors causing pipe break and their effects are analyzed based on the estimated regression coefficients and their hazard ratios, and the constructed models are verified using the deviance residuals of the models.
A continued operation of RCPs during a certain small break LOCA may increase unnecessary inventory loss from the RCS causing a severe core uncovery which might lead to a fuel failure. After TMI-2 accident, the CEOG developed RCP trip strategy called “Trip-Two/Leave-Two” (T2/L2) in response to NRC requests and incorporated it in the generic EPG for CE plants. The T2/L2 RCP trip strategy consists of tripping the first two RCPs on low RCS pressure and then tripping the remaining two RCPs if a LOCA has occurred. This analysis determines the RCP trip setpoint and demonstrates the safe operational aspects of RCP trip strategy during a small break LOCA for YGN 3&4. The trip setpoint of the first too RCPs for YGN 3&4 is calculated to be 1775 psia in pressurizer pressure based on the limiting small break LOCA with 0.15 ft$^2$ break size in the hot leg. The analysis results show that YGN 3&4 can maintain the core coolability even if the operator fails to trip the second too RCPs or trips at worst time. Also, the YGN 3&4 RCP trip strategy demonstrates that both the 10 CFR 50.46 requirements on PCT and the ANSI standards 58.8 requirements on operator action time can be satisfied with enough margin. Therefore, it is concluded that the T2/L2 RCP trip strategy with a trip setpoint of 1775 psia for YGN 3&4 can provide improved operator guidance for the RCP operation during accidents.
