  • Leakage and Bragg condition of optical waveguides with blazed grating profile are evaluated in detail by using novel and rigorous modal transmission-line theory (MTLT) based on eigenvalue problem. The blazed waveguides classified as symmetric, sawtooth and asymmetric gratings occur leaky-wave stop-band at Bragg conditions and anomalies based on Rayleigh condition near Bragg conditions. Furthermore, DFB properties of blazed waveguides at Bragg conditions are analyzed by applying longitudinal equivalent transmission-line with characteristic impedance of periodic grating. The numerical results show that the reflected power of DFB waveguides is maximized at Bragg conditions in which leaky-wave stop-bands occur.

  • Leakage and Bragg condition of optical waveguide with asymmetric rectangular grating profile are evaluated in detail by using novel and rigorous modal transmission-line theory (MTLT) based on eigenvalue problem. The optical waveguide composed by asymmetric rectangular grating occur leaky-wave stop-bands at Bragg conditions, and anomalies based on Rayleigh-Wood condition near Bragg conditions. Furthermore, DFB properties of the guiding structure at Bragg conditions are analyzed by applying longitudinal equivalent transmission-line with characteristic impedance of periodic grating. The numerical results show that filtering characteristics that maximize the reflected power of DFB waveguide are activated near Bragg conditions, in which leaky-wave stop-bands occur.

  • In this paper, we investigated the deposition condition of Bragg reflector formation that will be expected to play an important role in future FBAR device applications. The thin films were deposited using an RF/DC magnetron sputtering technique. The material characteristics such as deposition rates, grain structures and surface roughnesses of the deposited silicon dioxide (SiO$_2$) and tungsten (W) films were investigated for various deposition conditions. As a result, it was found that the deposition condition could significantly affect the material characteristics of the deposited films and also the optimization of the deposition process is essentially important to obtain the desirable Brags reflector structure consisted of high-quality in films.

  • The study is aimed at studying a weakly relativistic oversized BWO with a Bragg reflector entrance of SWS. The Bragg reflector reflects microwaves, while it is open for beam propagations. By changing the boundary condition at the beam entrance, the effect of the Bragg reflector on the BWO performance is examined.

  • In this study, Bragg reflector was formed as tungsten(W) and $SiO_2$ deposited by RF magnetron sputtering according to variable conditions of RF power and working pressure to apply to the SMR type FBAR device, one of the next generation mobile communication devices. The micro-structural properties such as a crystal orientation, roughness and micro- structure were measured by XRD, AFM and SEM and the best condition of Bragg reflector was elicited with analyzing that results of the thin films about each conditions. Finally, FBAR device was fabricated with applying the Bragg reflector was formed on the best condition and measured the resonance properties and compared other research and considered it.

  • Fiber optic sensors (FOS) have advantages such as electromagnetic interference (EMI) immunity, corrosion resistance and multiplexing capability. For these reasons, they are widely used in various condition monitoring systems (CMS). This study investigated a muscular condition monitoring system using fiber optic sensors (FOS). Generally, sensors for monitoring the condition of the human body are based on electro-magnetic devices. However, such an electrical system has several weaknesses, including the potential for electro-magnetic interference and distortion. Fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors overcome these weaknesses, along with simplifying the devices and increasing user convenience. To measure the level of muscle contraction and relaxation, which indicates the musle condition, a belt-shaped FBG sensor module that makes it possible to monitor the movement of muscles in the radial and circumferential directions was fabricated in this study. In addition, a uniaxial tensile test was carried out in order to evaluate the applicability of this FBG sensor module. Based on the experimental results, a relationship was observed between the tensile stress and Bragg wavelength of the FBG sensors, which revealed the possibility of fabricating a muscular condition monitoring system based on FBG sensors.

  • In this paper, the occurrence of a stopband phenomenon when an acoustic wave propagates through periodically corrugated ducts is discussed using theoretical and BEM analyses. A 2-D duct with sinusoidally corrugated upper and lower walls is considered. When the magnitude of the sinusoidal corrugation is sufficiently small compared to the duct's height, the wave equation is solved with the multiple scaling perturbation method. Then stopbands for Bragg and non-Bragg resonances are computed from the condition where frequency becomes a complex number. A 2-D BEM analysis is performed to compute insertion loss of the duct, and stopbands are confirmed as predicted by analytical analysis.

  • In this study, we studied the gamma-radiation effect of fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) on the high temperature annealing condition after grating inscription using a KrF UV laser (248 nm). The FBGs were fabricated in a different annealing temperature using the same commercial Ge-doped silica core fiber (SMF-28e) and exposed to gamma-radiation up to a dose of 31 kGy at the dose rate of 115 Gy/min. The high temperature annealing procedure for grating stabilization was applied to change the radiation sensitivity of the FBGs. According to the experimental data and analysis results, the gratings that were stabilized at different temperatures at 100, 150 and $200^{\circ}C$ have clearly shown that exposure to higher temperatures increases their radiation sensitivity. The radiation-induced Bragg wavelength shift (BWS) was shown a difference of up to about a factor of two depending on the annealing temperature conditions of the gratings.

  • Optical fiber Bragg grating to have the lowest transmitivity at 1549.9nm wavelength was fabricated using a Gaussian distributed KrF Eximer laser of 248nm lasing wavelength and a phase mask of 1.072um period. The proper alignment of an optic setup to fabricate fiber gratings was investigated and the reproductivity of the grating fabrication was examined using the obtained optimum fabrication condition in this experiment.
