Effect of smear layer deproteinization on bonding of self-etch adhesives to dentin: a systematic review and meta-analysis

  • Objectives: The aim of this systematic review was to critically analyze previously published studies of the effects of dentin surface pretreatment with deproteinizing agents on the bonding of self-etch (SE) adhesives to dentin. Additionally, a meta-analysis was conducted to quantify the effects of the above-mentioned surface pretreatment methods on the bonding of SE adhesives to dentin. Materials and Methods: An electronic search was performed using the following databases: Scopus, PubMed and ScienceDirect. The online search was performed using the following keywords: 'dentin' or 'hypochlorous acid' or 'sodium hypochlorite' and 'self-etch adhesive.' The following categories were excluded during the assessment process: non-English articles, randomized clinical trials, case reports, animal studies, and review articles. The reviewed studies were subjected to meta-analysis to quantify the effect of the application time and concentration of sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) and hypochlorous acid (HOCl) deproteinizing agents on bonding to dentin. Results: Only 9 laboratory studies fit the inclusion criteria of this systematic review. The results of the meta-analysis revealed that the pooled average microtensile bond strength values to dentin pre-treated with deproteinizing agents (15.71 MPa) was significantly lower than those of the non-treated control group (20.94 MPa). Conclusions: In light of the currently available scientific evidence, dentin surface pretreatment with deproteinizing agents does not enhance the bonding of SE adhesives to dentin. The HOCl deproteinizing agent exhibited minimal adverse effects on bonding to dentin in comparison with NaOCl solutions.

The Effect of Hydrogen Plasma on Surface Roughness and Activation in SOI Wafer Fabrication

  • The hydrogen plasma treatment of silicon wafers in the reactive ion-etching mode was studied for the application to silicon-on-insulator wafers which were prepared using the wafer bonding technique. The chemical reactions of hydrogen plasma with surface were used for both surface activation and removal of surface contaminants. As a result of exposure of silicon wafers to the plasma, an active oxide layer was found on the surface. This layer was rendered hydrophilic. The surface roughness and morphology were examined as functions of the plasma exposing time and power. In addition, the surface became smoother with the shorter plasma exposing time and power. The value of initial surface energy estimated by the crack propagation method was 506 mJ/㎡, which was up to about three times higher as compared to the case of conventional direct using the wet RCA cleaning method.

  • One disadvantage of Glass Ionomer Cement Restoration is the difficulty in polishing. To find the appropriate polishing method, we polished the surface of Glass Ionomer Cement Restorations by 11 combination methods serially using disks shared with large-small particles and evaluated the polishing process in terms of surface roughness, surface roughness curve, and SEM findings. In addition, a visible light curing type bonding material was applied to evaluate the possible improvement in surface properties. The following results were obtained. 1. The disk surface of Glass Ionomer Cement was polished serially by disks with superfine particles, but it didn't become smooth. 2. The surface of Microfilled Composite resin became smoother as using a disk with finer particles. 3. When a visible light curing type bonding material was applied in finishing process, the surface of Glass Ionomer Cement became smooth as much as the applied matrix.

  • 원통형 단판적층재(LVL)의 구조재 이외의 공예재 등의 용도개발을 위하여 원통형 단판적층재의 내수접착성과 도장처리에 따른 내마모성 및 표면경도를 측정하였다. 레조시놀 수지와 경화제(paraformaldehyde)를 100 : 5의 혼합비로 하여 접착 경화한 원통형 단판적층재의 전체적인 접착층에 대한 삶음박리 접착력은 양호한 편이었다. 내마모성은 횡단면이 접선단면보다 상대적으로 우수하였으며, 접선단면에 자외선 차단 오일을 도장 처리한 경우 내마모성이 향상되었다. 표면경도는 횡단면의 경우, 낙엽송 중심재가 라디에타소나무 단판적층 부위보다 높았고, 접선단면의 경우에는 접착층 부위가 단판부위보다 높게 나타났다.

THE EFFECT OF SUREACE TREATMENTS ON THE REBONDED RESIN-BONDED RETAINERS

  • The resin : metal interface is at the basis of most bonding failures in resin-bonded prosthesis. Although debonding has been a problem with adhesive fixed partial dentures, various dentists classify them as long-term restorations. The advantages of resin-bonded fixed partial dentures include minimal tooth reduction and the possibility of rebonding. if resin-bonded protheses can be easily rebounded, it is of clinical importance to know if the lutingagents rebond as well the second time as they did originally. Several retentive systems for resin-to-metal bonding have recommended. Treatments such as electrolytic etching and silicone coating, despite the good result of bond strength, have proved to be time-consuming and technique-sensitive. Therefore a simple and more reliable method is desirable. This study evaluated the effect of metal surface treatments on the rebond strength of panavia 21 cement to a nickel-chromium(Ni-Cr) alloy. The samples were received the following surface treatments : Group No.1 (control or served as the control) treatment with sandblasting with 50um aluminum oxide and ultrasonically cleaned for 10minutes in double-deionized water, Group No.2 were no surface treatments. Group No.3 were treated with metal primer. Group No.4 were treated with sandblasting as previously described, and then metal priming. From the analysis of the results, the following conclusions were drawn. 1. Sandblasting and metal priming appears to be an effective method for treatment of metal after accidental debonding. 2. Group without surface treatment had significantly lower bond strengths compared with other groups. 3. The combination of sandblasting and metal priming may not develop superior bonding strengths compared with other techniques that used the Ni-Cr alloys. 4. Combination of cohesive and adhesive failures were the most common type observed. The results support the use of sandblasting as a viable procedure when rebonding accidentally lost adhesive partial denture. We concluded that sandblasting and metal priming of metal surface before bonding could provide the adequate bond strength during rebonding of resin-bonded fixed partial denture.

레이저 및 플라즈마 표면처리에 따른 이종소재 접합특성평가 (Evaluation of Bonding Performance of Hybrid Materials According to Laser and Plasma Surface Treatment)

  • 최근 경량 소재에 대한 수요 증가로 기존 금속과 복합재간 접합 관심이 지대하다. 리벳팅과 같은 볼트 체결인 기계적 결합의 경우 응력 집중, 균열 및 박리가 발생함에 따라 접착제를 사용한 화학적 결합이 주목받고 있다. 본 논문에서는 접착제의 접합강도 향상을 위해 레이저 및 플라즈마 표면처리를 진행하였으며, 이에 대한 접착특성을 평가하고자 한다. 접합강도 실험을 위해 흔히 자동차용 소재로 사용되는 탄소섬유강화플라스틱(CFRP), CR340(Steel)과 Al6061(Aluminum)을 실험 소재로 선정해 레이저 및 플라즈마 표면처리를 진행 후 단축전단강도를 측정하였다. 플라즈마 표면처리 후 CFRP-CR340 및 CFRP-Al6061 이종소재 시편에서 각각 접합강도가 7.3% 및 39.2% 향상되었다. CR340-Al6061 시편은 레이저 표면처리에서 기준 시편대비 56.2% 증가하였다. 플라즈마 표면처리 후 표면자유에너지(SFE)가 향상되었는데 이는 화학반응 메커니즘을 통해 손상을 최소화해 접합강도 향상을 나타낸 것으로 사료된다. 레이저 표면처리는 물리적 표면처리로 거친 접합 표면 생성으로 인해 mechanical interlocking 효과로 인해 접착 강도가 향상된 것으로 사료된다. 본 연구를 토대로 실제 구조물 파손의 대표적인 원인인 피로파손을 예방하기 위해 장기 피로시험을 진행 할 예정이다.

플라즈마를 적용한 알루미늄의 표면처리가 알루미늄/CFRP 복합재의 접합강도에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Aluminum Treatment by Plasma on the Bonding Strength Between Aluminum and CFRP Composites)

  • This paper documents the effect of surface treatment of aluminum on the bonding strength of aluminum/CFRP composites. The surface of aluminum panel was treated by DC plasma. The optimal treatment condition of the aluminum was determined by measuring the contact angle and T-peel strength as functions of mixture ratio of acetylene gas to nitrogen gas. The mixture ratios used were 1:9, 3:7, 5:5, 7:3, and 9:1 Lap shear tests and T-peel tests were performed using surface-treated alumiunm/CFRP composites and regular alumiunm/CFRP composites. The results showed that the contact angle was minimized and the T-peel strength was maximized iota the mixture ratio of 5:5. The results also showed that the shear strength of surface-treated alumiunm/CFRP composites was 34% greater than that of regular alumiunm/CFRP composites. The T-peel strength of surface-treated alumiunm/CFRP composites was also 5 times greater than that of regular alumiunm/CFRP composites.

도재 소부용 비귀금속 합금과 티타늄에 적용한 Gold Bonding Agent의 전자현미경적 평가 (SEM/EDS Evaluation of Gold Bonding Agent Applied on Non-precious Alloys and Cast CP-Ti)

  • 본 연구는 금속-도재 수복물 제작에 사용되는 Ni-Cr alloy와 Co-Cr alloy, 그리고 티타늄에 gold bonding agent를 도포하여 Au coating 층을 형성하였다. 각 시편의 절단면을 전자현미경으로 Au coating 층과 porcelain bonder, 그리고 불투명 도재간의 결합을 관찰하였고, 각 계면의 상태를 SEM/EDS 방법으로 조사하였다. 실험에서 사용된 재료와 방법의 범위 내에서 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 1. Gold bonding agent를 사용하여 형성한 Au coating 층은 미세다공성을 가진 구조로 판단되었다. 2. Au coating 층과 porcelain bonder 그리고 불투명 도재간의 결합은 잘 일어나 보였다. 3. Au coating 층은 도재 소성과정에서 발생하는 산화층의 확산을 제한하는 것으로 관찰되었다.

수소 플라즈마 처리를 이용한 구리-구리 저온 본딩 (H2 Plasma Pre-treatment for Low Temperature Cu-Cu Bonding)

  • 상압 수소 플라즈마 전처리가 구리-구리 직접 본딩에 미치는 영향에 대해서 조사하였다. 상압 수소 플라즈마 처리를 통해 구리 박막의 표면 산화층을 환원시킬 수 있었음을 GIXRD 분석을 통해 확인하였다. 플라즈마 파워가 크고 플라즈마 처리 시간이 길수록 환원력 및 표면 거칠기 관점에서 효과적이었다. DCB를 이용한 계면 결합 에너지 측정에서 상압 수소 플라즈마 전처리 후 300℃에서 본딩한 경우 양호한 계면 결합 에너지를 나타내었으나, 본딩 온도가 낮아질수록 계면 결합 에너지가 낮아져 200℃에서는 본딩이 이루어지지 않았다. 습식 전처리의 경우 250℃ 이상에서 본딩한 경우 강한 결합력을 보였으며, 200℃에서는 낮은 계면 결합 에너지를 나타내었다.

도재와 상아질의 표면 처리가 도재의 파절 강도에 미치는 영향 (THE EFFECT OF SURFACE TREATMENT ON FRACTURE STRENGTH OF DENTAL CERAMICS)

  • The major influencing factors on the strength of all-ceramic crowns are types of dental ceramics, fabrication techniques, methods of abutment preparation and cementation modes of all-ceramic restorations. Zinc phosphate cement and glass-ionomer cement were used as an early lot-ing media for all-ceramic crowns. Recently many studies have reported that resin cements have more advantages in increasing the fracture strength of restorations comparing with zincphosphate cement and glass-ionomer cement. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of etching, silane treatment, sandblasting and dentin bonding agents on fracture strengths of dental ceramics. 40 flat dentin specimens and 40 ceramic discs of 1.5mm thickness and 8mm diameter were fabricated, and divided into 4 groups according to surface treatments. Surface treatments before cementation were as follows Group I : (ceramic) : HF etching - silane treatment - application of bonding resin (dentin) : application of dentin bonding agent Group II : (ceramic) : sandblasting - application of bonding resin (dentin) : application of dentin bonding agent Group III : (ceramic) : application of bonding resin (dentin) : application of dentin bonding agent Group IV : (ceramic) : HF etching - silane treatment - application of bonding resin (dentin) : no dentin bonding procedure Dentin specimens and ceramic discs were cemented with dual cure resin cement, and went through thermocycling. Compressive stress es were loaded on the centers of ceramic discs with Instron test-ing machine, and fracture strengths resistance for catastrophic fracture were measured The results were as follows. 1. The group I showed the highest fracture resistance. The next was group II And group III, IV followed. 2. There was a significant difference in the mean value of fracture strengths between group I and group III (p<0.05), but no significant differences between group I and group II, and group II and group III (p>0.05). 3. There was a significant difference in the mean value of fracture strengths between group I and group IV (p<0.05).
