  • The test blasts were carried out by detonating some single blastholes at two upper sites of the underground storage cavern the crude oil. One was performed at the entrance site of the construction tunnel and the other at the middle part of the underground storage cavern. Based on the blast-induced vibration measured by the test blasts, we suggested the propagation equations of blasting vibration that were capable of estimating the peak particle velocity. In addition, in order to assess the stability of the nearest ground storage tank, we did the frequency analysis and the response spectrum analysis with the particle velocity-time history and the particle acceleration-time history that were measured by the test blast carried out on the entrance site of the construction tunnel. In result, it was predicted that the displacement on the highest part of the tank shell was less than the allowable displacement.

  • Since blast-induced vibration may cause serious problem to the rock mass as well as the nearby structures, the prediction of blast-induced vibration and the stability evaluation must be performed before blasting activities. Dynamic analysis has been Increased recently in order to analyze the effect of the blast-induced vibration. Most of the previous studies, however, were based on the continuum analysis unable to consider rock joints which significantly affect the wave propagation and attenuation characteristics. They also adopted pressure curves estimated by theoretical or empirical equations as input detonation load, thus there were very difficult to reflect the characteristics of propagating media. In this study, therefore, we suggested a discontinuum dynamic analysis technique which uses velocity waveform obtained from a test blast as an input detonation load. A distinct element program, UDEC was used to consider the effect of rock joints. In order to verify the validity of proposed method, the test blast was simulated. The predicted results from the proposed method showed a good agreement with the measured vibration data from the test blast Through the dynamic numerical modelling on the planned road tunnel and slope, we evaluated the effect of blast-induced vibration and the stability of rock slope.

  • There is boner process of stone manufacturing to become quality down of stone to consolidated micro crack appearance of stone surface and biotite by fire that is to be route process in stone surface by flame of LPG. And then, it is develop that stone surface process equipment by automation for the work method of boner process can be substitute work method by shotball blasting. To developement of equipment, There is to be down noise and dust. Acording to remove calamity growth hazardous substance in the work environment, there is to solve workplace avoidance factor. We have taken Taguchi's parameter design approch, specifically orthogonal array, and determined the optimal levels of stone surface through analysis of the experimental results using SIN ratio.

  • Vibration occur at construction sites due to various causes. Starting from the movement of heavy equipments and construction vehicles, the machine crushing of embedded obstacles and rocks creates not only noise but also vibration. Furthermore, the blasting of rocks tops the other causes. In this paper, the measurements of various vibration occurring at the construction site are made and analyzed to determine the magnitude of vibration upon different sources of vibration. The results showed the relative magnitude of vibration for the site studied.

  • Recently, the number of structure demolitions has increased in both civil and architecture fields due to various reasons such as redevelopment of a city, utilization of sites and restoration of deteriorated structures. In the past, domestic shell structures had been constructed with brick masonry and they were not high. Therefore, their demolition had been executed with ease. Recently, however, taller reinforced concrete shell structures have become a target for the destruction. Under these circumstances, how to efficiently demolish a structure and how to minimize effects of the destruction on environment including vibration and noise have become a main issue. One of the possible solutions is the explosive demolition. In this study, a case of explosives demolition of the stack, which is located in Jeju Thermal Power Plant in Republic of Korea and is 70 m tall, is addressed. In order to fall down the structure against the desired direction, 13.5 kg dynamite and 100 electric detonators were used.

  • A variety of risks caused by natural, technological and biological hazards threaten a business continuity of an organization. Business continuity is very important issue for all organizations and its proper management may control success and failure of an organization. Business continuity plan (BCP) may be defined as a management process which provides a business continuity. BCP includes risk management, operational continuity plan, response/ recovery, exercise/study and crisis communication, etc. Risk management is a systematic method to identify, analyze, evaluate and treat emergency risks and risk assessment is composed of identifying, analyzing and evaluating emergency risks. Risk assesment is the first step for making BCP. In this study, risk assessment has been conducted for sewer laying project. Through assessing risks, 18 risks that may threaten the construction operation are identified and it is founded to be that high levels of risks which require treatment are 'collapse of excavation surface', 'breakage of ground infra-facilities', 'noise & dust dispersion' and 'rise of material costs'.

  • Building demolitions at urban area make some inconvenience to neighborhood through generating noises, ground vibrations, and dusts. For this reason, various methods to control such environmental impacts have been being designed and practiced. Among the methods, the use of explosive demolition is rapidly increasing because it can minimize the inconveniency as well as decrease the working time and cost. In this respect, the old Sung-Nam city hall, which was a Rahmen structure comprised of beams, slabs and columns, was decided to be demolished by explosive demolition. This paper shows that explosive demolition can be the most suitable way of removing old buildings eco-friendly, safely, and economically by showing the observation results obtained from the actual demolition operation for the Sung-Nam city hall.

  • In this study, 5 steps of different delay intervals are applied to a plasma rock-breaking machine that is driven by electric shocks in order to improve the workability of the traditional single-shot type plasma rock-breaking operation. The sequential steps use the electrolyte volume per delay of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 kg and it has been analyzed to measure the delay time and level of the ground vibration and noise according to exploding. The delay time of the rock-breaking machine by an electric shock of 5 steps has used about 40~50ms at the electrolyte connected from 1 to 3 holes, about 70~80ms at the electrolyte connected from 4 to 5 holes. It is identified that the extents of the ground vibration is low to 1 over 3~6 compared with that of the emulsion explosives.
