Design of a CMOS Single Bit 3rd Order Delta-Sigma Modulator with Switched Operational Amplifier (스위치드 연산증폭기를 이용한 CMOS 단일비트 3차 델타시그마 변조기 설계)

  • This paper presents Single-bit Third order Delta-Sigma Modulator, which can be applied to the Low speed High resolution ADC in Audio signal Process System. Whereas the Operational Amplifier in modulator consumed static power dissipation in operating, this modulator used Switching on/off techniques, which makes the Power dissipation of the modulator reduced. Also proposed modulator minimizes frequency characteristic variation by optimizing switch position. And this modulator chooses Single-bit type to guarantee stability. The designed ADC went through 0.35um CMOS n-well 1-poly 4-metal process to be a final product, and the final product has shown 17.1mW of power dissipation with 3.3V of Supply Voltage, 6.4MHz of conversion rate. And 84.3dB SNDR and 13.5bit ENOB with 20KHz of input frequency.

Effective Scalable Caching Algorithm by Minimizing Normalized Buffer Size over Constant-Bit-Rate Channel (일정한 채널 대역폭상에서 정규화 된 버퍼크기를 이용한 효율적인 선택적 캐슁 알고리즘)

  • This paper presents a scalable caching algorithm of proxy server with the finite storage size minimizing client's buffer size and constant-bit-rate channel bandwidth. Under the general video traffic condition, it is observed that the amount of decreased client's buffer size and channel bandwidth after caching a video frame depends on the relative frame position in the time axis as the frame size. Based on this fact, we propose an effective caching algorithm to select the cached frames by using the normalized buffer size. Finally, experimental results are provided to show the superior performance of the proposed alghrithm.

Comparison of PCCC and SCCC for an Optical CDMA System

  • In this paper, performance of an optical CDMA system with PCCC and SCCC is simulated and compared. It is assumed that optical channel is an intensity modulated (IM) channel and direct-detection scheme is employed to detect the received optical signal. The modulation scheme used is pulse-position-modulation (PPM). The performance is evaluated in terms of bit error probability. From the simulation results, it is shown that turbo coding offers considerable coding gain with reasonable encoding/decoding complexity.

  • This paper has been studied a method that effectively displaying color image to monochromatic display such as PDA and movable-phone. Generally, the Floyd-Steinberg dithering algorithm has been used in this area and its' effectiveness were well known. But it shows some ugly patterns in white area and also shows some directionality in vertical and horizontal directions. To reduce those directionality, I suggest the error diffusion direction to be rotated randomly according to the bit value of the current position. This can also mitigate some ugly pattern in white area

  • This research presents the parallel control scheme of PID servo-driver for shaping of the curved glass. The designed system consists of a PC, main controller and 11 servo-drivers. Each elements are connected by using RS-232C and 8-bit bus communication. In order to guarantee the stability and the control performance, we use the LM629, a precision PID motion controller, and LMD18200, a H-bridge on the servo-drivers. PC calculates position values of 11 DC motors by using the pre-determined curvature value and offers the user interface environment operator.

  • This paper suggests a control technique of the sensorless brushless DC (BLDC) motor drive for a vehicle fuel pump application. The sensorless technique based on a comparator and a potential start-up method with high starting torque are proposed. The comparator is used to generate the commutation signals in phase with the three-phase back-EMFs. The rotor position is aligned at standstill for maximum starting torque without an additional sensor and any information of motor parameters. Also, the stator current can be easily adjusted by modulating the pulse width of the switching devices during alignment. Some experiments are implemented on a single chip 16-bit DSP controller to demonstrate the feasibility of the sensorless techniques.

  • This paper proposes a new link structure that transmits power, clock, and data through a single optical fiber for a future automotive network. A pulse-position modulation (PPM) technique is adopted to guarantee a DC-balanced signal for robust power transmission regardless of transmitted data pattern. Further, circuit implementations and theoretical analyses for the proposed PPM transceiver are described in this paper. A prototype transceiver fabricated in 65-nm CMOS technology, is used to verify the PPM signaling part of the proposed system. The prototype achieves a $10^{-13}$ bit-error rate and 0.188-UI high frequency jitter tolerance while consuming 14 mW at 800 Mb/s.

  • In tis paper, sthe new data model for the hardware implementation of lempel-ziv compression algorithm was proposed. Traditional model generates the codeword which consists of 3 bytes, the last symbol, the position and the matched length. MSB (most significant bit) of the last symbol is the comparession flag and the remaining seven bits represent the character. We confined the value of the matched length to 128 instead of 256, which can be coded with seven bits only. In the proposed model, the codeword consists of 2 bytes, the merged symbol and the position. MSB of the merged symbol is the comression flag. The remaining seven bits represent the character or the matched length according to the value of the compression flag. The proposed model reduces the compression ratio by 5% compared with the traditional model. The proposed model can be adopted to the existing hardware architectures. The incremental factors of the compression ratio are also analyzed in this paper.

Time-Domain Quantization and Interpolation of Pitch Cycle Waveform

  • In this paper, a pitch cycle waveform (PCW) is extracted, quantized, and interpolated in a time domain to synthesize high-quality speech at low bit rates. The pre-alignment technique is proposed for the accurate and efficient PCW extraction, which predicts the current PCW position from the previous PCW position assuming that pitch periods evolve slowly. Since the pitch periods are different frame by frame, the original PCW is converted into the fixed-dimension PCW using the dimension-conversion method, and subsequently quantized by code-excited linear predictive (CELP) coding. The excitation signal for the linear predictive coding (LPC) synthesis filter is generated using the time-domain interpolation and interlink of the quantized PCW's. The coder operates at 4.2 kbit/s and 3.2 kbit/s depending on the pitch period. Informal listening test demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed coding scheme.

Design & fulfillment of multi-functional electric wheelchair (다기능 전동휠체어의 설계 및 구현)

  • In this study, we used a 16-bit microprocessor, 80C196KC for a control part in order to develop a multi-functional wheel-chair system, and implemented a joy-stick to control this system. For the complete system, we used a commercial electromotive wheelchair as a basic plant, and applied an encoder to get the rotating number of the motor to transfer data to the MCU to control the motor. We used PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) method to control the wheel-chair motor where a H-bridge circuit was configured. We used the fuzzy control algorithm for the operation of DC motor, which was attached to the electromotive wheelchair and manipulated following the change of the joystick position while a user was controlling the joystick. He also could control the speed and direction of DC motor as well as control position information.
