In order to study gene expression transcribted during the embryo development, we constructed a cDNA library of embryogenic callus induced from cotylendon of Korean ginseng and generated expressed sequence tags (ESTs) of 3,359 clones randomly selected. The ESTs could be clustered into 1,910 (59.1%) non-redundant groups. Similarity search of the non-redundant ESTs against public non-redundant databases of both protein and DNA indicated that 2,217 groups show similarity to genes of known function. These ESTs clones were divided into eighteen categories depending upon gene function. Most abundant transcripts were ribosomal protein small subunit 28kDa(40), tumor-related protein(35), metallothionein (31), small heat-shock protein class 18.6K(24), and cyclophilin(20). There are no useful informations of gene expression during the embryo development in Korean ginseng. These results could help to understand the embryo development in Korean ginseng.
Expressed sequence tags (EST) are help to quickly identify functions of expressed genes and to understand the complexity of gene expression. To assist genetic study of the root development in Panax ginseng, which is one of the most important medicinal plant, expressed sequence tags (EST) analysis was carried out. We constructed a CDNA library using the 4-year Chunpoon root. Partial sequences were obtained from 3,841 clone. The ESTs could be clustered into 2,056 (64%) non-redundant groups. Similarity search of the non-redundant ESTs against public non-redundant databases of both protein and DNA indicated that 1,498 groups show similarity to genes of known function. These ESTs clones were divided into eighteen categories depending upon gene function. The most abundant transcripts were major latex protein (41), ribonuclease 2 (36), metallothionein 2(35). Our extensive EST analysis of genes expressed in 4-year Chunpoong root not only contributes to the understanding of the dynamics of genome expression patterns in root organ development but also adds data to the repertoire of all genomic genes.
This study was performed to develop thin layer drying equations fur short grain rough rice using far-infrared ray. Thin layer drying tests was conducted at four far-infrared ray temperature levels of 30, 40, 50, 60$^{\circ}C$ and two initial moisture content levels of 20.7, 26.2%(w.b.). The measured moisture ratios were fitted to Lewis and Page drying models by stepwise multiple regression analysis. Half response time of drying was affected by both drying temperature and initial moisture content at drying temperature of below 40$^{\circ}C$, but at above 40$^{\circ}C$ was mainly affected by drying temperature. Experimental constant(k) in Lewis model was a function of drying temperature, but K and N in Page model were function of drying temperature and initial moisture content. Moisture ratios predicted by two drying models agreed well with experimental values. But in the actual range of drying temperature above 30$^{\circ}C$ Page model was more suitable for predicting of drying rates.
The seed paper was used in farm field recently for a sound young plant. The most of seed paper are made of synthetic non-woven sheet. Therefore, it is very difficult to bio-degrade in soil and is very hard to have some special function, for example keeping herbicide and/or insecticide activity because of its lack of chemical acceptability. The purpose of this research is manufacture of seedling paper which have a function of herbicide activity from waste paper. The fiber properties from waste paper were remarkably improved by fine removal with washing and/or flotation process. The paper-making ability for seed paper was enhanced with enzyme treatment of secondary fibers. The paper for seedling must have a good bio-degradation ability in soils. The absorption amount of chemical like as dithiopyr was increased remarkably in enzyme treated base paper. The embossing treatment of base paper was very effective for seed attachment and chemicals retention. And also, the developed seed paper showed a good penetration property of young root through embossed paper.
A MATLAB program was developed to calculate the half-wavelength of a sine-curve baseband signal with white noise by using an autocorrelation function, a SG filter, and zero-crossing detection. The frequency of the input signal can be estimated from 1) the first zero-crossing (corresponding to ¼λ) and 2) the R value (the Y axis of the correlogram) at the center of the segment. Thereby, the frequency information of the preceding segment can be obtained. If the segment size were optimized, and a portion with a large zero-crossing dynamic range were obtained, the frequency discrimination ability would improve. Furthermore, if the values of the correlogram for each frequency prepared on the CPU side were prepared in a table, the volume of calculations can be reduced by 98%. As background, period detection by autocorrelation coefficients requires an integer multiple of 1/2λ (when using a sine wave as the object of the autocorrelation function), otherwise the correlogram drawn by R value will not exhibit orthogonality. Therefore, it has not been used in bio-telemetry where the frequencies move around.
Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a major health issue increasing worldwide. Currently, nearby half a billion people have diabetes. Two major types of DM that type 1 and type 2-DM have different etiologies but feature a crucial common pathological transition into dysfunction of pancreatic β-cells and consequently leading hyperglycemia and finally go into DM. Therefore, maintaining of β-cells such as preventing β-cells degeneration, and promoting β-cells regeneration and proliferation will be essential approaches in prevention and/or treatment of DM. There are many reports that various types of seaweed control metabolic diseases such as obesity, high blood pressure, and blood sugar control. However, no new drug candidates have been developed yet. Additionally, although seaweed has excellent blood sugar control effects, there is no evidence that it directly proliferates or regenerates beta cells. Therefore, we studied on the promotion of β-cell regeneration by a seaweed, Polysiponia morrowii extract (PME) which preserves β-cells and maintains its function. As a result, it was confirmed that PME directly promotes the proliferation of pancreatic islet β-cells with insulin secretion function in in vivo. Therefore, PME shows potential as a candidate for β-cell regeneration that may play a fundamental role in the treatment of diabetes.
Purpose. Noise occurs at measuring Electoretinogram(ERG) signals as the other bio-signal measurement. It is compared the denoising performance according to the mother function of wavelet transforms. Methods. The ERG signal that generated power supply noise and white noise was used as a sampling signal. The noise of ERG signal was filtered by using haar, db7, bior mother function. The filtering performance of each mother functions was compared using Fourier transform spectrum and SNR(signal to noise ratio). Results. In the haar functioin, the result of the Fourier transform spectrum was that the power supply noise is removed and the white noise performance is not good. The SNR was 27.0404. In the db7 function, the results of Fourier transform spectrum was that the power supply noise is removed and the white noise performance is good. The SNR was 35.1729. In the db7 function, the results of Fourier transform spectrum was that the power supply noise is removed and the white noise performance is the bset. The SNR was 35.4445. Conclusions. The db7, bior function was good results in power supply noise and white noise filtered. The bior function is suitable for filtering noise of the ERG signal.

Objectives: Childhood maltreatment can negatively impact cognitive development, including executive function, working memory, and processing speed. This study investigated the impact of childhood maltreatment on cognitive function in young adults using various measurements, including computerized tests, and their relationship with emotional dysregulation. Methods: We recruited 149 healthy individuals with and without maltreatment experiences and used the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale IV (WAIS-IV) and a computerized battery to analyze cognitive function. Results: Both the WAIS-IV and computerized tests revealed that individuals with a history of childhood maltreatment had decreased cognitive function, especially in terms of working memory and processing speed. These individuals tended to employ maladaptive emotion regulation strategies. Among cognitive functions, working memory is negatively related to maladaptive emotion regulation strategies such as catastrophizing. Conclusion: This study highlights the effects of childhood maltreatment on cognitive function in young adulthood. Moreover, the study suggests clinical implications of cognitive interventions for improving emotion regulation and cognitive function in individuals with a history of childhood maltreatment.
Heavy metal pollution in agricultural field has been a critical issue in worldwide. For this reason, remediation technologies for heavy metal polluted soil are applied especially near at the abandoned metal mine. Soil quality analysis is also an important factor for proper management in heavy metal polluted agricultural field. In this study, scoring function was utilized to evaluate soil quality in heavy metal polluted agricultural field. Among other soil properties, bulk density, soil pH, EC, $NH_4$-N, $NO_3$-N, and cation exchange capacity (CEC) were determined for minimum data set (MDS) with principal component analysis. Result showed that both upland and paddy soil contaminated with heavy metal were not suitable for crop growth except scoring of soil pH for paddy soil and CEC for upland soil. This result might indicate that chemical stabilization technology with chemical amendment could be adapted for remediation method for heavy metal polluted agiclutural field not only for heavy metal immobilization but also enhancement of soil condition for crop growth.
