  • The radio signal in GNSS was intentionally designed with two frequencies in order to combat the dispersion error caused by trans-ionospheric propagation. By measuring the path delay independently at the two, widely spaced GPS frequencies, L1 & L2, the TEC along the path from satellite to receiver can be measured directly. The issue with dual frequency measurement of the ionosphere is the calibration of L1/L2 interfrequency biases. L1/L2 interfrequency biases are generated because physical electric signal paths of L1 and L2 circuits are different from each other for both satellites and receiver. Conventionally L1/L2 interfrequency bias is estimated and broadcasted by 2D ionospheric model. In this paper, we estimated IFB (interfrequency bias) by 2D & 3D ionospheric models including real time filter methods and compared the result of those and concluded the merit of 3D tomography model to recover the problem of 2D thin shell model. We confirmed our conclusion by experimental data.

  • In this study three log-transformed linear regression models are compared with the focus of bias correction problem. The models are the traditional simple linear regression estimator (SL), the quasi maximum likelihood estimator (QMLE) and the minimum variance unbiased estimator (MVUE). Using such models, suspended solid loads can be estimated using the discharge - suspended solid data set that has been measured by NIER Nakdong River Water Environment Laboratory. As a result, SL shows negative bias for most values of the measured discharge range. QMLE is nearly unbiased for moderate values of the measured discharge range, but shows increasingly positive bias for either large or small value of the measured discharge range. MVUE is unbiased. It is also analyzed how the estimated regression coefficient and exponent are distributed along Nakdong river main stream.

  • We consider a Bayesian nonignorable selection model to accommodate the selection bias. Markov chain Monte Carlo methods is known to be very useful to fit the nonignorable selection model. However, sensitivity to prior assumptions on parameters for selection mechanism is a potential problem. To quantify the sensitivity to prior assumption, the deviance information criterion and the conditional predictive ordinate are used to compare the goodness-of-fit under two different prior specifications. It turns out that the 'MLE' prior gives better fit than the 'uniform' prior in viewpoints of goodness-of-fit measures.

  • Random Early Detection (RED), one of the most well-known Active Queue Management (AQM), has been designed to substitute Tail Drop and is nowadays widely implemented in commercially available routers. RED algorithm provides high throughput and low delay as well as a solution of global synchronization. However RED is sensitive to parameters setting, so the performance of RED, significantly depends on the fixed parameters. To solve this problem, the Adaptive RED (ARED) algorithm is suggested by S. Floyd. But, ARED also uses fixed parameters like target-queue length; it is hard to respond to bursty traffic actively. In this paper, we proposed AQM algorithm based on the variation of current queue length in order to improve adaptability about burst traffic. We measured performance of proposed algorithm through a throughput, marking-drop rate and bias phenomenon. In experimentation, we raised a packet throughput as reduced packet drop rate, and we confirmed to reduce a bias phenomenon about bursty traffic.

  • This paper addressed the problem of estimation of finite population mean in double sampling for stratification. This paper proposed a generalized ratio-cum-product type estimator of population mean. The bias and mean square error of the proposed estimator has been obtained upto the first degree of approximation. A particular member of the proposed generalized estimator was identified and studied from a comparison point of view. It is observed that the identified particular estimator is more efficient than usual unbiased estimator and Ige and Tripathi (1987) estimators. An empirical study was conducted in support of the theoretical findings.

  • In the phase-shift measurement method, the distance light travels can be obtained based on the phase difference between the reference signal and the measured signal. When the object having various colors is measured, the intensity of the measured signal much varies even at the same distance, and it causes different phase delay due to wide dynamic range input to a signal processing circuit. In this work, an measured intensity control method is proposed to solve this phase delay problem.

  • Bayesian reconstruction methods for emission computed tomography have been a topic of interest in recent years, partly because they allow for the introduction of prior information into the reconstruction problem. Early formulations incorporated priors that imposed simple spatial smoothness constraints on the underlying object using Gibbs priors in the form of four-nearest or eight-nearest neighbors. While these types of priors, known as "membrane" priors, are useful as stabilizers in otherwise unstable ML-EM reconstructions, more sophisticated prior models are needed to model underlying source distributions more accurately. In this work, we investigate whether the "thin plate" model has advantages over the simple Gibbs smoothing priors mentioned above. To test and compare quantitative performance of the reconstruction algorithms, we use Monte Carlo noise trials and calculate bias and variance images of reconstruction estimates. The conclusion is that the thin plate prior outperforms the membrane prior in terms of bias and variance.

  • The problem of identification of continuous systems is considered when both the discrete input and output measurements are contaminated by white noises. Using a predesigned digital low-pass filter, a discrete-time estimation model is constructed easily without direct approximations of system signal derivatives from sampled data. If the pass-band of the filter is designed so that it includes the main frequencies of both the system input and output signals in some range, the noise effects are sufficiently reduced, accurate estimates can be obtained by least squares(LS) algorithm in the presence of low measurement noises. Two classes of filters(infinite impulse response(IIR) filter and finite impulse response(FIR) filter) are employed. The former requires less computational burden and memory than the latter while the latter is suitable for the bias compensated least squares(BCLS) method, which compensates the bias of the LS estimate by the estimates of the input-output noise variances and thus yields unbiased estimates in the presence of high noises.
