This study was carried out to investigate the dimensional stability of bentwoods by three treatments: steaming, urethane varnish coating, and polyethylene glycol (PEG) treatment. Bentwood processing employed a bending-jig with only 4 cm radius of curvature (ROC). The used species were bitter wood (Picrasma quassioides), painted maple (Acer mono), and birch (Betula schmidtiii). The bending properties of these are well-known in bentwood production (Jung et al., 2002). The bentwoods were treated repeated at room temperature [20℃, RH 80% (12 hours) and 40℃ under RH 10% (12 hours)]. To estimate the dimensional stability of bentwoods, we measured the radius of curvature and end-distance. The best results could be attained with PEG treatment. Steaming was the worst treatment. Comparing the properties of the different species, the dimensional stability of bitter wood was excellent. It was concluded that the steaming treatment was unsuitable for dimensional stability of bentwoods.
Clean development mechanism (CDM) validity study was conducted to suggest better and more adaptable CDM scenario on water treatment plant (WTP). Potential four scenarios for CDM project; improvement of intake pumping efficiency, hydro power plant construction, solar panel construction and system optimization of mechanical mixing process were evaluated on S-WTP in Korea. Net present value (NPV) of each scenario was estimated based on sensitivity analysis with the variable factors to investigate the CDM validity percentile. Hydro power plant construction was the best option for CDM business with 97.76% validity and $1,127,069 mean profit by 9,813 $tonsCO_2e$/yr reduction. CDM validity on improvement of intake pumping efficiency was 90.2% with $124,305 mean profit by huge amount of $CO_2$ mitigation (10,347 $tonsCO_2e$/yr). System optimization of mechanical mixing process reduced 15% of energy consumption (3,184 $tonsCO_2e$/yr) and its CDM validity and mean profit was 77.25% and $23,942, respectively. Solar panel construction could make the effect of 14,094 $tonsCO_2$ mitigation annually and its CDM validity and mean profit was 64.68% and $228,487, respectively.
The effluent limitation of industrial wastewater is based on uniform regulatory criteria for effluent discharge facilities of all in Korea. But, an individual effluent limitation on each effluent discharge facility is widely applicable for regulation of industrial wastewater in US.EPA. To decide an individual effluent limitation, TBEL (Technology-based effluent limitation) and WQBEL (Water quality-based effluent limitation) are used. TBEL is based on the capability of a treatment technology to reduce the pollutants. WQBEL is based on ambient water quality standards. In this study, TBEL were derived for the pulp, paper and paper board manufacturing based on best practicable control technology currently available. It was suggested that effluent limitations were $BOD_5$ 4.7 mg/L, $COD_{Mn}$ 44.3 mg/L, SS 13.2 mg/L, TN 1.4 mg/L, TP 0.15 mg/L and best practicable control technology currently available (BPT) was neutralization, activated sludge treatment and coagulation and sedimentation for the pulp, paper and paper board manufacturing.
Surface properties of the plasma treated fabric were changed while maintaining its bulk properties. Surface of plasma treated fabric take charge of enhanced adhesion by surface etching, surface activity. The water repellency coating Poly(Ethylene Terephthalate) fabric was treated with atmospheric pressure plasma using various parameters such as Argon gas, treatment time, processing power. Morphological changes by atmospheric pressure plasma treatment were observed using field emmission scanning electron microscopy(FE-SEM) and the zeta-potential measurement, contact angle measurement equipment. At the atmospheric pressure plasma treatment time of 150 sec, the power of 800W, the best wettability and peel strength were obtained. And we confirmed the possibility of industrial application by using atmospheric plasma system.

In this paper, the annealing heat treatments for the best corrosion resistant of Ti(Grade 2) were studied in a 3.5% NaCl solution by electrochemical methods. The annealing heat treatments were accomplished at 650, 700 and $750^{\circ}C$ with different time of 30min., 1hour and 2 hours in a vacuum condition. The obtained results are: 1) in the case of solution heat treated $930^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours in a vacuum and air, the corrosion potentials were -348.7 and -567. 1mV, and current densities 2.32 and $22.62\mu\textrm{A}$, respectively, 2) as increase both annealing heat treatment temperature 650, 700, $750^{\circ}C$ and time 30min., 1 hour, 2 hours, the corrosion potential were decreased, whereas corrosion current density increased, 3) in the case of cyclic polarization, the measured charges were increased as increasing solution heat treatment temperature and time, 4) on the bases of corrosion potential, current density and charge, the best annealing temperature and time were measured as $700^{\circ}C$ and 30min. for Ti(Grade 2) material.
Five alloys were selected randomly in the composition range showing the best shape memory effect in Fe-Mn-Si system reported by Murakami. The shape memory effects of those alloys were mainly investigated through the training treatment which consisted of the repetition of 2% tensile deformation at room temperature and subsequent annealing at $600^{\circ}C$ above $A_r$ temperature. At the same deformation degress in rolling $600^{\circ}C$-annealing for 1 hr. showed the best shape memory effect, and 10%-deformation degrees represented maxima of the shpae memory effects at all annealing temperatures, $500^{\circ}C$, $600^{\circ}C$ and $700^{\circ}C$. The shape memory effects of the alloys were increased by increasing training cycle up to 5 cycles. This was because a large number of dislocations introduced by training process gave rise to increase in the austenite yield stress, and acted as nucleation sites for stress induced ${\varepsilon}$ martensite. The thermal cycling treatment, repetition of cooling in nitrogen at $-196{\circ}C$ and heating to $300^{\circ}C$ for 5 min., did not improve the shape memory effect.
The main feature of these total technologies is that we can constitute the optimum treatment scheme fitting to the property of wastes, amount of wastes and energy requirement. For high moisture content wastes or biomass resources, high pressure steam process (MMCS) for crush, dry and deodorize wastes to produce high quality fertilizer of fuel is most appropriate. For dry or semi-dry solid wastes, the STAR-MEET system can be applied to produce low-BTU gases for power generation using duel fueled diesel engines of Stirling engines, and the REPRES and HyPR-MEET systems can be applied to produce hydrogen rich medium-BTU gas. For waste plastics and oils, liquefaction technology is best fit to produce light oil or kerosene equivalent fuel oils. These total technologies are completely different from the existent waste treatment technologies based on land-filling or incineration, and are expected to disseminate all over the world in the near future.
This study investigated a developed process for producing a composite bipolar plate having excellent conductivity by using coal tar pitch and phenol resin as binders. We used a pressing method to prepare a compact of graphite powder mixed with binders. Resistivity of the impregnated compact was observed as heat treatment temperature was increased. It was observed that pore sizes of the GCTP samples increased as the heat treatment temperature increased. There was not a great difference between the flexural strengths of GCTP-IM and CPR-IM as the heat treatment temperature was increased. The resistivity of GPR700-IM, heat treated at $700^{\circ}C$ using phenolic resin as a binder, was $4829{\mu}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$ which was best value in this study. In addition, it is expected that with the appropriate selection of carbon powder and further optimization of process we can produce a composite bipolar plate which has excellent properties.
The manufacturing and application characteristics of binderless briquette for in-mold melt treatment of ductile cast iron were investigated. The porosity of briquette was decreased with increased magnesium content. The dissolution rate was increased with the latter in the range of 5~10%. The fluxing effect was the best when 5%$CaF_2$ was added. The optimum composition of the binderless briquette was obtained.
In this paper, plasma treatment effects on a ploy(dimethyl siloxane) substrate were analyzed for the applications of stretchable silver nanowire (Ag NWs) electrodes. The oxygen plasma treated sample shows the best performance compared to nitrogen treated and untreated samples. The lowest sheet resistance and reasonable stretching capability was achieved up to 20% strain condition without open circuit fail for the oxygen plasma treated sample.
