Nuclear archaeology research provides scientific methods to reconstruct the operating histories of fissile material production facilities to account for past fissile material production. While it has typically focused on analyzing material in permanent reactor structures, spent fuel or high-level waste also hold information about the reactor operation. In this computational study, we explore a Bayesian inference framework for reconstructing the operational history from measurements of isotope ratios from a sample of nuclear waste. We investigate two different inference models. The first model discriminates between three potential reactors of origin (Magnox, PWR, and PHWR) while simultaneously reconstructing the fuel burnup, time since irradiation, initial enrichment, and average power density. The second model reconstructs the fuel burnup and time since irradiation of two batches of waste in a mixed sample. Each of the models is applied to a set of simulated test data, and the performance is evaluated by comparing the highest posterior density regions to the corresponding parameter values of the test dataset. Both models perform well on the simulated test cases, which highlights the potential of the Bayesian inference framework and opens up avenues for further investigation.

Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) encapsulates computer hardware into a large amount of virtual and manageable instances mainly in the form of virtual machine (VM), and provides rental service for users. Currently, VM anomaly incidents occasionally occur, which leads to performance issues and even downtime. This paper aims at detecting anomalous VMs based on performance metrics data of VMs. Due to the dynamic nature and increasing scale of IaaS, detecting anomalous VMs from voluminous correlated and non-Gaussian monitored performance data is a challenging task. This paper designs an anomaly detection framework to solve this challenge. First, it collects 53 performance metrics to reflect the running state of each VM. The collected performance metrics are testified not to follow the Gaussian distribution. Then, it employs independent components analysis (ICA) instead of principal component analysis (PCA) to extract independent components from collected non-Gaussian performance metric data. For anomaly detection, it employs multi-class Bayesian classification to determine the current state of each VM. To evaluate the performance of the designed detection framework, four types of anomalies are separately or jointly injected into randomly selected VMs in a campus-wide testbed. The experimental results show that ICA-based detection mechanism outperforms PCA-based and LDA-based detection mechanisms in terms of sensitivity and specificity.

The change of attack techniques paradigm was begun by fast extension of the latest Internet and new attack form appearing. But, Most intrusion detection systems detect only known attack type as IDS is doing based on misuse detection, and active correspondence is difficult in new attack. Therefore, to heighten detection rate for new attack pattern, the experiments to apply various techniques of anomaly detection are appearing. In this paper, we propose an behavior profiling method using Bayesian framework based on graphics from audit data and visualize behavior profile to detect/analyze anomaly behavior. We achieve simulation to translate host/network audit data into BF-XML which is behavior profile of semi-structured data type for anomaly detection and to visualize BF-XML as SVG.

A framework for reliability analysis of structural components and systems under conditions of statistical and model uncertainty is presented. The Bayesian parameter estimation method is used to derive the posterior distribution of model parameters reflecting epistemic uncertainties. Point, predictive and bound estimates of reliability accounting for parameter uncertainties are derived. The bounds estimates explicitly reflect the effect of epistemic uncertainties on the reliability measure. These developments are enhance-ments of second-moment uncertainty analysis methods developed by A. H-S. Ang and others three decades ago.

This paper considers a Bayesian approach to modeling a flexible regression function under structural measurement error model. The regression function is modeled based on semiparametric regression with penalized splines. Model fitting and parameter estimation are carried out in a hierarchical Bayesian framework using Markov chain Monte Carlo methodology. Their performances are compared with those of the estimators under structural measurement error model without a semiparametric component.

A momentum threshold autoregressive (MTAR) model, a nonlinear autoregressive model, is analyzed in a Bayesian framework. Parameter estimation in the presence of missing data is done by using Markov chain Monte Carlo methods. We also propose simple Bayesian test procedures for asymmetry and unit roots. The proposed method is applied to a set of Korea unemployment rate data and reveals evidence for asymmetry and a unit root.

This paper presents the probabilistic-based assessment of composite steel-concrete structures through an innovative framework. This framework combines model identification and reliability assessment procedures. The paper starts by describing current structural assessment algorithms and the most relevant uncertainty sources. The developed model identification algorithm is then presented. During this procedure, the model parameters are automatically adjusted, so that the numerical results best fit the experimental data. Modelling and measurement errors are respectively incorporated in this algorithm. The reliability assessment procedure aims to assess the structure performance, considering randomness in model parameters. Since monitoring and characterization tests are common measures to control and acquire information about those parameters, a Bayesian inference procedure is incorporated to update the reliability assessment. The framework is then tested with a set of composite steel-concrete beams, which behavior is complex. The experimental tests, as well as the developed numerical model and the obtained results from the proposed framework, are respectively present.
In emission computed tomography, statistical reconstruction methods in the context of a Bayesian framework have been a topic of interest over the last decade. This was mainly due to the fact that Bayesian approaches can incorporate a priori information into the reconstruction algorithm. Although these approaches can exhibit good performance, their applications to the clinic is hindered mainly by their high computational cost. On the other hand, the speed and simplicity of the filtered backprojection (FBP) algorithm have led to its widespread use in most clinical applications. In this work, we use spline models, which have been quite useful in Bayesian reconstruction, as regularizers for high-frequency apodization in FBP algorithm and show that the effects of using spline models as priors in Bayesian reconstruction can also be achieved in FBP reconstruction.

We study a semiparametric Bayesian approach to small area estimation under a nested error linear regression model with area level covariate subject to measurement error. Consideration is given to radial basis functions for the regression spline and knots on a grid of equally spaced sample quantiles of covariate with measurement errors in the nested error linear regression model setup. We conduct a hierarchical Bayesian structural measurement error model for small areas and prove the propriety of the joint posterior based on a given hierarchical Bayesian framework since some priors are defined non-informative improper priors that uses Markov Chain Monte Carlo methods to fit it. Our methodology is illustrated using numerical examples to compare possible models based on model adequacy criteria; in addition, analysis is conducted based on real data.
