Production of alkaline carboxymethyl cellulase (CMCase) and xylanase by batch and fed-batch cultures of alkalophilic Cephalosporium sp. RYM-202 was investigated. Of carbon sources tested, wheat bran gave the highest production of those enzymes. The high levels of CMCase on carboxymethyl cellulose and xylanase on birchwood xylan suggest that the biosynthesis of CMCase and xylanase in Cephalosporium sp. RYM-202 is regulated separately at the level of enzyme induction. The temperature and pH for maximal production of those enzymes was $20^{\circ}C$ and 9.0, respectively. High concentration of wheat bran in batch fermentation resulted in the lower and delayed production of the enzymes by catabolite repression. In fed-batch fermentation with controlled feeding of 5% final wheat bran concentration, the highest activities of CMCase and xylanase were 0.39 and 9.2 units/ml, respectively, and 1.22 and 1.36 times higher respectively than those in batch fermentation on 5% wheat bran.
The biosynthesis of Lovastatin, a cholesterol lowering agent formed by the filamentous fungus, cerulenin-resistant Aspergillus terreus mutant was studied in shake flasks and bioreactors. The lovastatin production could be improved by fed-batch under the limited condition of carbon source. The relationship between the fungal morphology and the lovastatin production was also examined during the fed-batch cultures. The fed-batch studies in shake flasks were carried out to find the optimum glucose feeding method, and the pulsed feeding of glucose from 3 days onward at 24 hours intervals was found to be optimal to increase the lovastatin production and reduce the average pellet size. When the pH was controlled at around 5.8 during the whole fermentation period, the lovastatin concentration reached 384 mg/L, which is much higher than the values obtained pH-uncontrolled and pH 7.4. The optimal glucose feeding strategies was found that 30 g/L of glucose was added initially in batch mode, and then fed-batch was conducted by continuous addition of glucose solution(180 g/L) from 72 to 240 hr at a rate of 1.2 mL/hr at $28^{\circ}C$, pH 5.8, 400 rpm, and 1.0 vvm. The lovastatin concentration of 547 mg/L was obtained in 168 hr. It was about 1.5 times higher than the value of the batch fermentation.
Optimal feeding strategies in bioreactor operation of Scutellaria baicalensis G. plant cell culture were investigated to maximize the production of flavone glycosides by using a structured kinetic model which can predict culture growth and flavone glycosides synthesis in a rigorous, quantitative manner. For the production of baicalin and wogonin-7-0-GA, the strategies for glucose feeding into Scutellaria baicalensis G. plant cell culture were proposed based on the model, which are a periodic fed-batch operation with maintenance of cell viability and of specific production rate respectively, and a perfusion operation with maintenance of specific production rate for baicalin and wogonin-7-0-GA. Simulation results showed that the highest volumetric concentration of flavone glycosides was obtained in a periodic fed-batch operation with maintenance of cell viability among all the suggested strategies. In the periodic fed-batch operations, the higher volumetric production of flavone glycosides was achieved compared with that in the perfusion operation. It can be concluded that a periodic fed-batch operation with maintenance of cell viability would be the optimal and practical operating strategy of Scutellaris baicalensis G. plant cell culture for the production of flavone glycosides.

Fed-batch cultures of Enterococcus faecalis RKY1 were performed to maximize the L(+)-Iactic acid concentration in the bioreactor. The highest lactic acid concentration was obtained at around 225 g/L by intermittent feeding the concentrated glucose media containing 500 g/L of glucose and 15 g/L (or 75 g/L) of yeast extract. However, in all fed-batch cultures, volumetric productivities of lactic acid gradually decreased due to the inhibitory effect of lactic acid produced during the fermentation. The highest value of lactic acid concentration obtained in this work corresponded to around 1.5-fold increase compared with conventional batch fermentation.
The fed-bach simultaneous saccharification and fermentation (SSF) of newspaper to ethanol with Brettanomyces custersii was studied. The initial substrate concentration for the effective fed-batch SSF was 8% (w/v). The initial optimum enzyme concentration was 30 FPU/g cellulose for cellulase and the optimum volumetric ratio of $\beta$-glucosidase to cellulase was 0.1. When 4% (w/v) of ball-milled newspaper was supplemented intermittently at time intervals, considering the mixing of newspaper slurry, the fed-batch SSF showed higher ethanol concentration (26.80 g/L) and two times higher ethanol production yield based on enzyme than the batch SSF.
Membership changing is deeply associated with scalability problem for group key management. If members of the group join or leave, new group key has to be geneerated and distributed to all remaining members of group. Group key changing is perform for group controller. The following parameters are important evaluating criteria of multicast key management scheme that generate and deliver new keys for rekeying: the number of keys stored by both controller and member, messages to deliver, keys to initially be delivered by controller, blocking capability of collusion attacks, messages to deliver at the batch rekeyng. Batch rekeying can reduce messages to deliver and operation costs of generation for message rather than removing members sequentially in fashion one after another. We propose efficient batch rekeying scheme applicable to Pegueroles scheme using random number and prove to be a efficient group key scheme for enhanced Pegueroles model with batch rekeying capability.
Flocculation of Candida tropicalis HY200 was systemically investigated to elucidate its mechanism, and used for cell cycles in repeated-batch cultivations for the production of xylitol from xylose. Flocculation occurred only after the late exponential phase of growth in the culture media and buffer within the narrow pH range of 3.0-5.0. The flocculation was completely inhibited by treatments of cells with proteases and partially reduced by treatments with carbohydrate-hydrolyzing enzymes and by the presence of mannose and glucose. The addition of calcium ions significantly enhanced the flocculation during cultivation, which was completely abolished by the addition of EDTA. The flocculent yeast HY200 provided repeated-batch cultivations employing cell recycles by flocculation over 6 rounds of cultivation for the production of xylitol from xylose, resulting in a relatively high productivity of averaged 4.6 g xylitol/l h over six batches and maximal 6.3 g xylitol/l h in the final sixth batch. Cell recycle by flocculation was fast and convenient, which could be applicable for the industrial scale of xylitol production.

This study describes an alternative mixed culture fermentation technology to anaerobically convert lignocellulosic biomass into butyric acid, a valuable product with wide application, without supplementary cellulolytic enzymes. Rice straw was soaked in 1% NaOH solution to increase digestibility. Among the tested pretreatment conditions, soaking rice straw at $50^{\circ}C$ for 72 h removed ~66% of the lignin, but retained ~84% of the cellulose and ~71% of the hemicellulose. By using an undefined cellulose-degrading butyrate-producing microbial community as butyric acid producer in batch fermentation, about 6 g/l of butyric acid was produced from the pretreated rice straw, which accounted for ~76% of the total volatile fatty acids. In the repeated-batch operation, the butyric acid production declined batch by batch, which was most possibly caused by the shift of microbial community structure monitored by denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis. In this study, batch operation was observed to be more suitable for butyric acid production.
