A Case Study on application of Action Learning in Basic Nursing Science: by Contents Analysis of the Reflection Journals (기초간호과학 수업에서 액션러닝 적용 사례연구 : 성찰일지 내용분석 중심으로)

  • The aim of this study is to explore the educational experience of nursing students after designing an action learning class suitable for basic nursing science class and applying it. A total 100 freshmen nursing students taking a basic nursing science class of K university in S city participated in this study. Data was collected from May 2019 to June 2020. The action learning class consisted of 5-6 people per team, a total of 9 teams, reflection diaries were collected and analyzed using the qualitative content analysis method of Krippendorff (2004). The analysis produced 45 significant statements in total, 8 themes and 4 categries for the experience of basic nursing science class based on action learning. The 4 categories were 'confidence in anatomy', 'growing teamwork', 'learned how to study', 'difficulties in the process'. The action learning applied class was found to be effective in problem-solving ability, teamwork, and self-directed learning. Therefore, it is proposed to evaluate the effect of action learning in other nursing subjects as well.

Relationship among Knowledge, Attitude, Self-Confidence and Performance Ability on Basic Life Support in Nursing Students (간호대학생의 기본소생술에 대한 지식, 태도, 수행자신감 및 수행능력과의 관계)

  • This study is a descriptive research that aimed to investigate the relationship among the knowledge, attitude, self-confidence, and ability to perform basic life support of nursing students, and to identify the factors affecting their performance ability of basic life support. The subjects in this study were 85 senior nursing students. And a questionnaire survey and an observation assessment for their ability to perform basic life support were conducted. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, Multiple Linear Regression with SPSS WIN 23.0 program. Performance ability on Basic life support was found to be in a significant positive correlation with knowledge, self-confidence. Factors affecting the ability to perform basic life support were knowledge, number of training sessions received, and last training time. Therefore, programs for repetitive basic life support training at 3-month intervals should be developed to maintain the performance ability of basic life support.

A Study of Rehabilitation Nursing Curriculum (재활간호학 교과목의 운영 현황)

  • Purpose: To survey the present status of the rehabilitation nursing course at three year diploma programs, baccalaureate degree programs(BSN), RN-BSN, and graduate programs in Korea and to analyze the contents of the syllabus to provide the basic data in developing a standard model for rehabilitation nursing curriculum. Method: Data was collected from all the nursing programs in Korea from July 2005 to Nov. 2005 by mail and fax. Result: The rehabilitation nursing courses has been offered 12 diploma program, 16 BSN, 4 RN-BSN, and 16 graduate programs. And the credits of the rehabilitation nursing course offered by the program were as follows : one credit (6 diploma and 1 BSN), two credits (6 diploma, 14 BSN and 1 RN-BSN), and three credits (1 BSN, 3 RN-BSN and 16 graduate). Conclusion: Future studies need to be focused on developing rehabilitation nursing curricula reflecting the updated contents of rehabilitation nursing.

Analysis on Basic Nursing Content Required for the Clinical Performance by Novice Nurses (신규간호사의 임상실무수행을 위해 필요한 기본간호내용 분석)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify nurses' perceptions of the importance of concrete items as a basis for nursing practice. A total of 179 concrete items for basic nursing, which clinical nurses must know in order to practice appropriately, were identified. Method: The participants in this study were 225 nurses who had worked for two to five years in university hospitals. The nurses were asked to rate the importance of the 179 items (in 39 middle range categories) on a 5 point scale. Result: The mean age of the nurses was 26 and about 54% were university graduates. Of the 39 middle range categories those rated as the top ten were transfusion (4.682), IV injection (4.492), po medication (4.476), surgery (4.469), infection control (4.438), IM injection (4.413), safety (4.388), oxygenation (4.376), diagnostic test (4.366), and fluid & electrolyte balance (4.359). The categories that had the lowest scores were sexuality (3.449), conceptual nursing (3.465), spirituality (3.527) and personal hygiene (3.548). Conclusion: The results of this study show that most nurses evaluate items which they use frequently in their practice as important.

A Study of Gerontological Nursing Curriculum (노인간호학 교과과정에 대한 조사연구)

  • To survey the present status of the gerontological nursing course at three year diploma programs, baccalaureate degree programs(BSN), and graduate programs in Korea, and to analyze the contents of the syllabus and gerontological nursing textbooks to provide the basic data in developing a standard model for gerontological nursing curriculum. Method: Data was collected from all the nursing programs in Korea from Nov. 2000 to Feb. 2001 by mail and fax. Result: The gerontological nursing courses has been offered 36 diploma program, 40 BSN, and 17 graduate programs. And the credits of the gerontological nursing course offered by the program were as follows : one credit (10 diploma and 8 BSN), two credits (22 diploma and 29 BSN), and three credits (1 BSN). The contents of curri- culum were analyzed by comparing the core curriculum of NGNA. The majority of the schools included Gerontological Nursing in General, Theory of Aging, Aging Processes, Care Plan Options, and Common Health Problems. The subjects which very few school cover are Legal/ Ethical Issues, Evaluation, Regulatory & Reimbursement Issues, Education Issues, Nursing Research in Gerontology, and Environmental Issues of Older Adults. There were some differences in these results among diploma courses, BSNs, and graduate schools. The gerontological nursing textbooks contained similar contents to those of the diploma and the baccalaureate programs.

Effects of Self Reflective Practice using Cellular Phone Video Recordings on Self-Confidence in Performance, Practice Satisfaction, Learning Self-efficacy and Core Basic Nursing Skills Achievement among Nursing Students (스마트폰 동영상을 활용한 자기성찰 실습이 간호학생의 핵심 간호술 수행자신감, 실습만족도, 학업적 자기효능감 및 성취도에 미치는 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of self reflective practice using cellular phone video recordings on self-confidence in performance, practice satisfaction, learning self-efficacy and core basic nursing skills achievement. A quasi-experimental study with a non-equivalent control group posttest design was used. Participants were recruited from one nursing colleges. The sample consisted of an experimental group (n=43) that participated in the self reflective practice using cellular phone video recordings program and a control group (n=43). The data of self-confidence in performance, practice satisfaction, and learning self-efficacy were collected using self-administered questionnaires from March 2, 2018 to May 30. The core basic nursing skills achievement was evaluated by two researchers. Data analyzed using ${\chi}^2$-test and independent t-test. After the intervention, self-confidence in performance, learning self-efficacy and core basic nursing skills achievement significantly increased in the experimental group compared with the control group. Findings indicated that, this program can be recommended as an effective educational program for the nursing student to improve their fundamental nursing skills.

The Causal Relationship among Vocational Basic Competencies, Self-Efficacy, Nursing Professionalism and Self-Directed Learning Ability of Nursing Students (간호대학생의 직업기초능력과 자기효능감, 간호전문직관 및 자기주도학습능력의 인과적 관계)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine empirically the influence of self-efficacy on the selection of behavior and sustainability as a variable affecting vocational basic competencies. There is a need to confirm the influence of the mediating effect of nursing professionalism and self-directed learning ability formed through the recognition of nursing professional intuition on the vocational basic competencies. For this purpose, 396 nursing students from three junior colleges in J province were sampled for convenience. All of the latent variables were measured by vocational core competency, self-efficacy, nursing professionalism and self-directed learning ability. The collected data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling. The result of this study were as follows: First, the fix indexed of causal model among ocational core competency, self-efficacy, nursing professionalism and self-directed learning ability were identified suitably. Second, self-efficacy had no direct effect on vocational core competency, however, nursing professionalism and self-directed learning ability had moderating effect in the relationship between self-efficacy and vocational core competency. Third, nursing professionalism had direct effect on vocational core competency and also self-directed learning ability had moderating effect in the relationship between nursing professionalism and vocational core competency. Fourth, self-directed learning ability had direct effect on vocational core competency.

Concept Analysis of Oppression in Nursing Organization (간호조직에서의 억압에 대한 개념분석)

  • This study was to identify the concept of oppression in nursing organization thereby providing basic data on nursing education to improve oppression in nursing organization. Using Walker and Avant's criteria to identify attributes, antecedents, and consequences of oppression in nursing organization, 17 research articles published from 2006 to 2020 were reviewed. The defining attributes of oppression in nursing identified in this study were low self-esteem, lack of authority, and horizontal violence. The antecedents to oppression in nursing organization were oppressors, hierarchical organizational structure, and marginalization. The consequences of oppression in nursing organization included job satisfaction, organizational silence, patient safety and quality of nursing. Considering the findings, improvement of the hierarchical working environment in hospitals and self-awareness as professional nurses are important for nurses to overcome oppression in nursing organization. Therefore, effective educational programs should be developed to ameliorate working environment and self-awareness of nurses.

The Influence of Online Basic Clinical Training on Critical Thinking Disposition, Self Determination Motivation and Learning Satisfaction for Nursing student

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of online basic clinical training on critical thinking disposition, self determination motivation and learning satisfaction for nursing student in the COVID-19 situation. This study is one group pre-test and post-test design. The subjects of this study were collected using an online questionnaire for third-year nursing students located in G city, and 41 students participated in the final. The results of this study showed that critical thinking disposition(p=.013) and self determination motivation(p=.007) increased statistically significantly after the online basic clinical training. This findings indicate that online basic clinical training is effective in improving critical thinking disposition, self determination motivation. As it is difficult to perform direct nursing in the COVID-19 medical field recently, it is expected that the limitations of online clinical practice can be overcome by using various online contents.

Contents Analysis of Textbook Related to Safety Education in Elementary School (안전교육에 대한 초등학교 교과서 내용 분석)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to provide basic data to develop safety education programs in elementary school. Method: Analysis is made based on textbooks for $1st-{\sim}6th-grade$ elementary school students published by Korea Ministry of Education & Human Resources Development. Results: 1) Among the textbooks. only , . , and courses dealt with safety education. 2) The contents of safety education included traffic safety, water safety, indoor and outdoor safety, fire, emergency measures, misuse and abuse of drug, smoking, toy safety, sports safety, leasure safety and disasters. However, the contents were theoretical, fragmentary, local and limited. Conclusion: These results suggest that the consents of safety education must be strengthened, and more practical and more behavior-oriented in consideration of activities.
