  • With the recent development of advanced GIS and complex spatial analysis technologies, the more sophisticated technologies are being required to support the advanced knowledge for solving geographical or spatial problems in various decision support systems. In addition, necessity for research on scientific crime investigation and forensic science is increasing particularly at law enforcement agencies and investigation institutions for efficient investigation and the prevention of crimes. There are active researches on geographic profiling to predict the base location such as criminals' residence by analyzing the spatial patterns of serial crimes. However, as previous researches on geographic profiling use simply statistical methods for spatial pattern analysis and do not apply a variety of spatial and temporal analysis technologies on serial crimes, they have the low prediction accuracy. Therefore, this paper identifies the typology the spatio-temporal patterns of serial crimes according to spatial distribution of crime sites and temporal distribution on occurrence of crimes and proposes STA-BLP(Spatio-Temporal Analysis based Base Location Prediction) algorithm which predicts the base location of serial crimes more accurately based on the patterns. STA-BLP improves the prediction accuracy by considering of the anisotropic pattern of serial crimes committed by criminals who prefer specific directions on a crime trip and the learning effect of criminals through repeated movement along the same route. In addition, it can predict base location more accurately in the serial crimes from multiple bases with the local prediction for some crime sites included in a cluster and the global prediction for all crime sites. Through a variety of experiments, we proved the superiority of the STA-BLP by comparing it with previous algorithms in terms of prediction accuracy.

  • For Wireless internet service in Metropolitan area, optimum location selection for base station and cell planning are critical process in determining service coverage by accurate prediction of Wave Propagation Characteristics. Due to different kinds of characteristics in service area such as lay of land, natural feature and material, height and width of artificially made building, it has a great impact on the transmission and distance recovery of wireless network service. Therefore, these facts may cause substantial barriers in predicting & analyzing the expected level of service quality and providing it to subscribers. In this thesis, we have simulated the process to improve quality and coverage of the service by adjusting the location of Base station and the antenna angle that influence the service after the basic location of base station is selected according to the wave prediction model. Based on this simulations test, we have demonstrated the results in which subscribers would get higher quality of wireless internet service along with bigger coverage and the improved quality in the same service coverage area through optimization process of base station.

  • Energy constraints of wireless sensor networks are an important challenge. Data Transmission requires energy. Distance between origin and destination has an important role in energy consumption. In addition, the location of base station has a large impact on energy consumption and a specific method not proposed for it. In addition, a obtain model for location of base station proposed. Also a model for distributed clustering is presented by cluster heads. Eventually, a combination of discussed ideas is proposed to improve the energy consumption. The proposed ideas have been implemented over the LEACH-C protocol. Evaluation results show that the proposed methods have a better performance in energy consumption and lifetime of the network in comparison with similar methods.

  • Predicting path loss is one of the important factors for wireless network design, such as selecting the installation location of base stations in cellular networks. In the past, path loss values were measured through numerous field tests to determine the optimal installation location of the base station, which has the disadvantage of taking a lot of time to measure. To solve this problem, in this study, we propose a path loss prediction method based on machine learning (ML). In particular, an ensemble learning approach is applied to improve the path loss prediction performance. Bootstrap dataset was utilized to obtain models with different hyperparameter configurations, and the final model was built by ensembling these models. We evaluated and compared the performance of the proposed ensemble-based path loss prediction method with various ML-based methods using publicly available path loss datasets. The experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms the existing methods and can predict the path loss values accurately.

  • Trilateration is a typical method to locate an object, which requires inherently at least three prerecognized reference points. In some cases, owing to out of reachability to communication facilities the target node cannot be reachable always to three base stations. This paper presents a predictive method, which can identify the location of a moving target node in real time even though the target node could not get in touch with all three base stations. The method is based on the PIDcontrolled Moving Objects Spatio-Temporal Model Algorithm. Simulation results verify that this method can predict the moving direction of a moving target, and then combine with its past position information to judge accurately the location.

  • Handoff is one of the most important features for the user's mobility in a wireless cellular communication system. It is related to resource reservation at nearby cells. Resource reservation to the new connection point should occur prior to handoff to enable the user to receive the data or services at the new location, at the same level of service as at the previous location. For the efficient resource reservation, mobility prediction has been reported as an effective means to decrease the call dropping probability and to shorten the handoff latency in a wireless cellular environment. A recently proposed algorithm, ZMHB, makes use of the history of the user's positions within the current cell to predict the next cell. But, the prediction of the ZMHB algorithm is found to be 80∼85% accurate for regular and random movements. In this paper, we propose a new improved ZMHB mobility prediction algorithm, which is called Detailed-ZMHB that uses detailed-zone-based tracking of mo-bile users to predict user movements. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is then demonstrated through a simulation.

  • Ship owners are demanding quieter vessels since crews have become more sensitive to their acoustic environment. Accordingly, designers of shipyards need to respond intelligently to the challenging requirements of delivering a quiet vessel. In early design stage, to predict shipboard noise the statistical approach is preferred to other methods because of simplicity. However, since the noise characteristics of the ships vary continuously with the environments, it is necessary to update the prediction formula with data base management system. This paper describes the feature of database program with the prediction method. Database management programs with GUI, are applied to Intranet system that is accessible by any users. Statistical approach to the prediction of A-weighted noise level in ship cabins, based on multiple regression analysis, is conducted. The noise levels in ship cabins are mainly affected by the parameters of the deadweight, the type of ship, the relative location of engines and cabins, the type of deckhouse, etc. As a result of verification, the formulas ensure the accuracy of 3 ㏈ in 83 % of cabins.

  • In this paper, we propose a flexible GGOP prediction structure to improve coding efficiency for multi-view video coding. In general, reference software used for MVC uses the fixed GGOP prediction structure. However, the performance of MVC depends on the base view and numbers of B-pictures between I-picture(or P-picture) and P-picture. In order to implement the flexible GGOP prediction structure, the location of base view is decided according to the global disparities among the adjacent sequences. Numbers of B-pictures between I-picture(or P-picture) and P-picture are decided by camera arrangement such as the baseline distance among the cameras. The proposed method shows better result than the reference software of MVC. The proposed prediction structure shows considerable reduction of coded bits by 7.1%.

  • In mobile communications, it is very important that we predict the propagation environments of radiation pattern, in order to decide the service area, select the best location of the best station, design the cell etc. Therefore, by analyzing the propagation prediction model that is varied according to the kind of antenna, the beam angle, the terrain and obstacles, we expect that the economic operating of communication networks, the calling quality and the service of subscriber will be enhanced. In this paper, we select the around of Seji base station in Naju-city Chonnam for modern suburban area and measure the field strength to propose the optimal propagation prediction model for suburban areas. We propose the propagation prediction model that, it is not found in the other models until now, consists of the correction coefficient with the relative differences of antenna effective height of the base station and mobile station for minimizing errors. Finally, comparing the results of the field test with the computer simulation(PPGIS : Propagation Prediction Geographic Information System) results for the Hata model, the Egri model, the Carey model and the propose model, we confirm the property of the proposed model.
