Analytical Prediction for Electromagnetic Characteristics of Tubular Linear Actuator with Halbach Array Using Transfer Relations

  • This paper deals with analytical prediction for electromagnetic characteristics of a tubular linear actuator with Halbach array using transfer relations, namely, Melcher's methodology. Using transfer relations derived in terms of magnetic vector potential and a two-dimensional (2-d) cylindrical coordinate system, this paper derives analytical solutions for magnetic vector potential due to permanent magnets (PMs) and stator winding currents. On the basis of these analytical solutions, this paper also achieves analytical solutions for the magnetic fields distribution produced by PMs, stator windings current and axial thrust. The analytical results are validated extensively by finite element (FE) analyses. In particular, test results such as thrust measurements are given to confirm the analysis. Finally, this paper estimates control parameters using analytical solutions and test results such as thrust, back-emf, inductance and resistance measurements.

  • Detent force of a permanent magnet linear motor(PMLSM) consist of cogging and drag forces, and should be minimized for high precision control purpose applications. This paper shows that the cogging force can be reduced effectively by employing 9 pole 10 slot structure. The drag force is minimized by optimizing the total length and shape of the exterior teeth of armature core simultaneously by using($1+{\lambda}$) evolution strategy coupled with response surface method. After optimization, the optimized PMLSM is proven to reduce 95% and 92.6% of the cogging and total detent forces, respectively, and give 12% and 6.4% higher Back-emf and thrust force, respectively, compared with a conventional 12 pole 9 slot structure under the same condition. Additionally, Simulation results by the proposed optimum design are verified by the experiment results.

  • In this paper, using equivalent circuit of BLDC motor in the 30W class, process of modeling the BLDC motor and calculating the parameter is shown. Through run-down-test and measuring back EMF, torque, speed and ampere, parameter that transfer function requires was gotten. In this result, for step response of BLDC motor, comparing the actual result obtained by circuit experiment with the simulation result obtained by substituting this parameter into the transfer function, it was established that process calculating parameters in this study is proper.

  • This paper deals with an electromagnetic analysis and control parameter estimation of a moving-coil linear oscillatory actuator (MCLOA). Analytical solutions for electromagnetic characteristics of the MCLOA are obtained from transfer relations derived in terms of a magnetic vector potential and two-dimensional (2-d) rectangular coordinate systems. And then, on the basis of 2-d analytical solutions, control parameters such as the thrust constant, the back-emf constant and winding inductances are estimated. Finally, analytical results for both electromagnetic characteristics and control parameters of the MCLOA are validated extensively by finite element (FE) analyses. In particular, test results such as static thrust, resistance and inductance measurements are given to confirm the analyses.

  • This paper deals with the prediction of characteristic for permanent magnet linear synchronous motor(PMLSM). The open-circuit field distribution is predicted using a two-dimensional(2-D) analytical solution derivd in terms of magnetic vector potential. The slotting and skew effect is considered using the relative permeance function. and than using this result, flux linkage and back EMF is calculated. The results are validated extensively by finite element(FE) analyses and measurement.

  • This paper deals with the power conversion and design of permanent magnet generator for wind power applications. This paper derives analytical solutions for open-circuit field, armature reaction field, torque, back-emf, inductance and resistance of permanent magnet generators for wind power applications. And then, by presenting the variation of torque according to design parameters and by applying restrict conditions to it, we determine proper design parameter appropriate to rated power and speed. Finally, this paper also presents power conversion system resonable in wind power applications.

  • The permanent magnet(PM) overhang effect has been generally used to enhance the linkage flux in the motor. In this paper, we quantitatively investigate the PM overhang effect in the new type axial flux permanent magnet(AFPM) motor with a double-sided airgap. The motor performances such as linkage flux, back electromotive force(EMF), magnetic force, etc. were analyzed according to the variation of the overhang angle. From the results, we can select the proper overhang angle of PM which improves the performance of the AFPM motor.

  • This paper deals with tubular type linear oscillatory actuator with axially magnetized permanent magnet. The magnetic field distribution is predicted using a two-dimensional analytical solution derived in terms of magnetic vector potential and cylindrical coordinate system. Using this result, trust and flux linkage and back emf are derived. The results of predictions from the analysis are compared with corresponding finite element method.

  • Because of its cost effectiveness, the Brushless DC Motor(BLDCM) is focused by the industry these days. Considering the constant back-EMF region of the BLDCM, only a simple position information should be provided for constant torque control. From this point of view, using expensive position sensors, such as encoder, resolver, etc, decreases the cost effectiveness of the BLDCM. The Proposed detecting circuit detects position of zero crossing point(ZCP) then relative position could be calculated from ZCP. This circuit is robust to noise because of working in the current level. BLDCM is driven from the position information by the ZCP The reliability on BLDCM sensorless control using the voltage detecting circuit is shown through simulation using Matlab.
