유방자가검진(BSE) 교육프로그램이 유방자가검진실행의 효율성에 미치는 영향 -개별처방식 지도모형 적용- (Effects of the BSE Educational Program on BSE Practice - Based on the Individually Prescribed Instruction Model)

  • Breast cancer ranks as one of the major health problems of adult women. Studies have shown that the BSE educational program based on the Individually Prescribed Instruction Model is effective in BSE practice. To motivate women in BSE practicing, a one-group pretest-posttest design was conducted. The subjects of the study were 49 Women who participated in the educational program of BSE and were mothers of D middle school in D City. The instruments of study were a BSE frequency & proficiency recording chart and a BSE confidence scale developed by Elearnor. The data was collected from September 4 in 1997 to April 30 in 1998 and was analyzed with an SAS program. The results were summarized as follows : 1) Frequency scores in BSE practice in the posttest was significantly increased after the intervention as contrasted with that in the pretest(t=1.32, P<.01). 2) Proficiency scores in BSE practice in the posttest was significantly increased after the intervention as contrasted with that in the pretest (t = 1. 69, P<.001). 3) Confidence scores in BSE practice in the posttest was significantly increased after the intervention as contrasted with that in the pretes(t=l1.48, P<.01). 4) The Pearson correlation coefficient between BSE frequency scores and confidence scores in BSE practice was significant (r =.72, P<.001). On the basis of this study, it can be concluded that the BSE educational program has improved BSE compliance.

여대생의 유방자가검진에 대한 지식과 태도가 실천의도에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Knowledge of and Attitude to Breast Self-examination on Female University Students' Intention to Practice)

  • Purpose: This study was to determine the effect of knowledge of and attitude to Breast Self-Examination (BSE) on female university students' intention to practice. Methods: The subjects were female university students who participated in the Pink Ribbon Campaign of the Korea Breast Health Foundation held at H University on October 11, 2016. The data were collected using a questionnaire in Naver Office Form. The data were analyzed by $x^2$ test, t-test, Mann-Whitney U test, ANOVA and logistic regression model using SPSS 21.0 program. Results: Significant factors influencing the intention to practice were BSE educational experience and the benefits of BSE. The odds ratios were 3.61 and 5.92, respectively. Conclusion: It was found that the benefits of BSE were more influential than the educational experience on BSE as an influencing factors of BSE practice intention. Also, it was confirmed that attitude should be considered more important than knowledge in order to increase their practice intention. Since the benefits, among attitudinal factors, were confirmed as an influencing factor, BSE educational programs for female university students should put more focus on the benefits of BSE, not just sticking to delivering related knowledge.

Breast Self-examination Practices and the Effect of a Planned Training Program in Western Turkey

  • This cross-sectional and descriptive study was aimed to evaluate women breast self-examination (BSE) practice and effects of a planned educational programme for breast cancer and BSE. The samples of the study consisted 266 women. The study data were collected by a questionnaire in six months periods as two times in a month in which the periods were defined and announced to all women. After that all the women were informed about BSE. The statue of performing BSE of women (n=146) was evaluated. They were interviewed on phone after 6 months. The collected data were analyzed by using statistical SPSS program. The average age of women was $35.68{\pm}7.54$. It is also determined that (61.3%) had no knowledge about BSE, (87.6%) had examined clinical breast examination (CBE) in a year and half of them (50.8%) never practiced BSE, (29.0%) had BSE regularly every month. Concerning the status of BSE practice before the education and after the education significant difference is found statistically (p<0.00). The significance of this study is that it is to give education about breast cancer and BSE for raising awareness among women.

간호사의 유방자가검진(Breast Self-Examination) 실천 예측요인 (Predictive Factors of Brest Self-Examination Practice of Clinical Nurse)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify predictive factors of Brest Self-Examination practice of clinical nurses. Method: The subject for this study were 277 nurses in 8 university hospitals in Busan. The data were collected from September 21 to October 20, 2001 by means of a structure questionnaire. The instruments used for this study were Choi's BSE knowledge scale. Kim's BSE attitude scale and Jung's BSE practice scale. The data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, Peason Correlation, t-teat, ANOVA, scheffe's test, and multiple stepwise Regression using SPSS program. Result: 1. The mean score of BSE practice for the total sample was 7. 25${\pm}$4.62. 2. Statistically significant factors influencing the BSE Practice among social demographic characteristics were age(F=2.734, P=0.44), Married status(t=2.598, p=0.010). 3. Statistically significant factors influencing the BSE Practice among BSE relating characteristics were enlisting the help of significant peers(t=3.34, P=0.00), Intention of Practice for BSE(t=10.462, p=0.00), performance of BSE(t=7.800, P=0.00), frequency of performance in BSE(F=13.932, p=0.00), confidence in Knowledge of BSE technique(F=5.350, p=0.00), confidence in finding breast nodule(F=7.204, p=.00), asking client's BSE (t=3.153, P=0.01). 4.The mild correlation between nurse's BSE knowledge and practice was found(r=0.366,p=0.000). 5. There were significant predictors of BSE Practice. Performance of BSE was the best significant predictive factor(R2=.383, p=.000) Another significant predictive factors were knowledge, intension of practice, married status, frequency of performance. Conclusion: Degree of nurses' performance of BSE was average. It is necessary to develope the nurses' educational program for BSE with its focus on above predictive factors of performance of BSE.

유방암 자가검진 유무와 질병의 중증도와의 관계연구 (A Study on the Relationship between the Breast Self-Examination and the severity of breast cancer)

  • The purpose of this study is to determine the need of education about BSE for the medical members, to survey about the performance and the knowledge of BSE in patients who operated on subtotal and total mastectomy and to compare the regularity of BSE with the severity of breast cancer. The subjects were 163 patients with operated on mastectomy who participated were interviewed in the S university Hospital. The collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and t-test, One-way ANOVA and Pearson Correlation with SPSSWIN program. Results were obtained as follows: 1. There was no statistical difference between in the regular group of the mammography and the regular BSE group(F=0.558, P=0.458). 2. There was statistical difference between the method of detection and the severity of the breast cancer(F=3.359, P=0.011). 3. There was statistical difference between regularity of the BSE and the severity of breast cancer(F=3.301, P=0.019). 4. There was showed higher severity of the breast cancer in the elderly patients(r=0.172, P=0.019). 5. There was showed higher severity of the breast cancer in the lower educational level(r=-0.170, P=0.033). According to this study need to the development of the educational program about the BSE and the future research about the regular BSE of the high risk group in the breast cancer.

일 지역 여성의 유방자기검진(BSE)과 관련 변인에 관한 연구 (A Study of Variables related to Breast Self-examination Practice in Adult Women)

  • Breast cancer ranks as one of the major health problems in adult women. The purpose of this study is to determine relationships among the practice of Breast Self-Examination(BSE) and the variables of cancer risk and other genernal factors. This knowledge may be helpful in designing a BSE educational program to promote breast self-examination on a regular basis. The study population included 205 women who live in K city. Personal interviews were conducted to determine the individual's breast self-examination behavior, the level of Breast Cancer Risk according to general factors as well as her reasons for not doing a breast self-examination. The collected data was analyzed with an SAS program The results were summarized as follows : 1. The level of Breast Cancer Risk of the subjects is as follows: high risk(9%), moderate risk(11%), boderline risk(12%), no increased risk (68%). 2. There was no difference in the practice of BSE between women who were at high cancer risk and at no increased cancer risk. 3. BSE practice levels according to general foctors were significantly related to the residence and the level of education of the subjects. The performing of regular breast self-examination in urban areas was 7% and in rural areas was 0%. Regularly practiced breast self-examination in women with a low education was 5% and in college educated women, it was 29%. 4. BSE education was significantly related to the residence and the level of education of the subjects. The majority learned BSE through 'a magazine or journal'. 5. The reason of the majority of women did not perform a regular breast self-examination was, 'Didn't know the BSE technique'. On the basis of this study it can be concluded that the development of a BSE education program is needed to help women perform the examination correctly.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of BSE education and practice on knowledge, self efficacy and performance in female nursing students. Method: The subjects consisted of 40 students from 2 nursing colleges. They responded to questionnaires that included knowledge, self-efficacy and performance of BSE within a 3-month interval. The experimental group was subjected to a 90 minute-educational session. Their knowledge of BSE was measured using Choi's tool and self-efficacy was measured using Champion and Scott. Result: Self-efficacy and frequency of BSE performance in the experimental group were significantly higher than those of the control group while BSE knowledge was not significantly different between the two groups. Conclusion: Nursing students don't put their knowledge into practice. This fact suggests that changing a behavior needs something more than knowledge. In this study, the BSE education had an effect on self-efficacy and performance. Therefore, practical education needs to be reinforced for nursing students to perform BSE for their own health and to be able to demonstrate it for clients.

유방암위험사정이 일 여성의 유방자가검진(BSE)실행에 미치는 영향 (Effects of the Breast Cancer Risk Appraisal on Breast Self-Examination Practice in Adult Women)

  • Breast cancer ranks as one of the major health problems of adult women. Studies have shown that Breast Self-Examination (BSE) is effective in detecting breast cancer in its early stages. To motivate women BSE practicing, a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design was conducted. Women 40 years or older who participated in the public education program for BSE from March 11 to April 6, 1996, were randomized in an experimental group(N=50) which received a letter about the Breast Cancer Risk Appraisal and in a control group(N=50) which didn't received a letter about the Breast Cancer Risk Appraisal. After 6 months, a follow-up phone survey was taken on all participants to measure the effectiveness of the intervention. Collected data was analyzed by one, two, and three-way ANOVA with an SAS program. The results are summarized as follows : 1. The level of the Breast Cancer Risk Appraisal of the subjects is high risk(17%), moderate risk(12%), boderline risk(14%), no increased risk (57%). 2. The intervention was effective in increasing the practice scores of BSE for women(F=5.12, P<.05). 3. BSE practice scores according to breast cancer risk appraisal level of the experimental group was not significantly increased after the intervention as contrasted with the control group (F=2.33, P>.05). 4. BSE practice scores according to educational level of the experimental group was significantly increased after the intervention, as contrasted with that of the control group (F=10.09, P<.001) .On the basis of this study it can be concluded that the Breast Cancer Risk Appraisal increases practice of BSE.

30, 40대 여성의 유방자가검진 수행에 영향을 미치는 요인 (Factors Influencing the Practice of Breast Self-Examination Among Women in Their 30s and 40s)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the level of knowledge, health belief, and self-efficacy affecting on breast self-examination (BSE), and to identify factors influencing the practice of BSE of women in their 30's and 40's. Methods: With a correlation survey design, 194 women in their 30's and 40's were recruited at 4 culture centers in Busan via convenience sampling. Measures were included with knowledge, health belief, and self-efficacy for breast self-examination and level of BSE practice. Results: Level of knowledge, health belief and self-efficacy for BSE were greater than medium level. BSE practice had positive correlations with subscales of health belief, except barrier and self-efficacy, but no relationship with knowledge. Self-efficacy, sensitivity, and benefit among the entered variables were significant factors influencing the practice of BSE, and explanatory power of these variables was 32.8%. Conclusion: Based on this study, studies are required to compare through repeated research according to age, education, occupation, environmental characteristics. In addition, to maximize the educational effect, development of the educational program in conjunction with the local community to increase breast self-examination practice and research about the effectiveness are needed.

일 지역 여대생의 유방자가검진에 대한 지식, 태도 및 실천의 관계 (Relationships between Knowledge, Attitude and Practice on Breast Self-Examination among Female University Students)

  • 본 연구는 일 지역 여대생의 유방자가검진에 대한 지식, 태도 및 실천 정도를 파악하고 제 변수간의 상관관계를 확인하기 위하여 시도되었다. 연구대상자는 U시에 소재한 1개 대학교에 재학 중인 여대생 330명으로 설문 조사하였으며, 연구결과 지식 점수는 6.60점/17점으로 낮았고, 태도 점수는 42.34점/64점으로 중간보다 높게 나타났으며 실천 점수는 13.23점/24점으로 중간정도로 나타났다. 대상자의 제 특성에 따른 유방자가검진에 대한 지식 정도는 연령(t=11.013 p<.001), 학년(t=12.725, p<.001), 유방자가검진에 대해 들어본 경험이 있는 경우(t=6.661, p<.001), 권유자가 있는 경우(t=3.426, p=.001), 교육을 받은 경험이 있는 경우(t=5.825, p<.001), 유방자가검진을 시행하는 경우(t=2.789, p=.005)에서 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 있었다. 대상자의 제 특성에 따른 유방자가검진에 대한 실천 정도는 유방자가검진에 대해 들어본 경험이 있는 경우(t=5.250, p<.001), 교육을 받은 경험이 있는 경우(t=4.493, p<.001), 앞으로 자가검진 계획이 있는 경우(F=3.910, p=.013)에서 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 있었다. 대상자의 유방자가검진에 대한 지식, 태도 및 실천과의 관계를 살펴본 결과 지식과 태도 정도의 관계는 미약한 순 상관관계를 보였고, 지식과 실천 정도의 관계는 약한 순 상관관계로 나타났다. 연구의 결과를 토대로 여대생의 유방자가검진 실천을 향상시킬 수 있는 효과적인 유방자가검진 교육방법 개발이 필요하다.
