  • 본 논문에서는 LTE-Advanced 시스템에 적용할 수 있는 $0.13-{\mu}m$ CMOS RF Front-end 송신기를 제안한다. 제안하는 RF Front-end 송신기는 3GPP의 E-UTRA Band 7 주파수인 2500 ~ 2570 MHz 대역을 지원하며 +10 dBm의 출력 P1dB 특성을 가지고, 실제 동작에서는 +0 dBm 출력 전력을 제공한다. 회로의 성능은 레이아웃 후 Post Layout Simulation을 통해 검증하였으며, +0 dBm 출력 시 1.2 V의 공급 전압원으로부터 상향주파수변환기는 14 mA, 그리고 구동증폭기는 28 mA를 소모한다.

Elizabethkingia miricola BM10, a New Symbiotic Bacterium Isolated from the Hindgut of the Termite Reticulitermes speratus KMT001

  • Elizabethkingia miricola BM10, a symbiotic bacterium, has been isolated from the hindgut of Reticulitermes speratus KMT001, a termite which occurs on Bukhan Mountain in Seoul, Korea. This strain demonstrated a symbiotic characteristic, in that it lacked endo-${\beta}$-1,4-glucanase activity, in a previous study. The major fatty acids of E. miricola BM10 were iso-$C_{15:0}$, iso-$C_{17:0}$ 3-OH, and summed feature 3 (iso-$C_{16:1}{\omega}7c/C_{16:1}{\omega}6c$). The content of iso-$C_{17:0}$ 3-OH was higher, while those of ECL 13.566, iso-$C_{17:11}{\omega}9c$, and summed feature 4 were lower than the other three type-strains of the Elizabethkingia genus. The 16S rRNA phylogenetic analysis confirmed that E. miricola BM10 is a new species. The whole genome of E. miricola BM10 was sequenced. The average nucleotide identity of strain BM10 as evaluated by pairwise comparison with E. anophelis R26, E. meningoseptica ATCC 13253, and E. miricola GTC 862 was shown to be 91.5%, 81.2%, and 94.29%, respectively. Based on our study results, E. miricola BM10 appears to represent a new strain of the genus Elizabethkingia.

CDMA 단말기용 수신단 MMIC 설계 (Design of a Rceiver MMIC for the CDMA Terminal)

  • 본 연구에서는 CDMA 단말기요 Receiver MMIC를 설계하였다. 전체회로는 저잡음 증폭기, 하향 주파수 혼합기, 중간주파수 증폭기 그리고 바이어스 회로로 구성된다. 바이어스회로는 문턱전압과 전원접압의 변화에 대해 보상동작을 한다. 제안된 토폴리지는 높은 선형성과 저잡음 특성을 가진다. 설계결과는 다음과 같다. 전체 변환이득은 28.5 dB, 저잡음 증폭기의 압력은 IP3는 8 dBM, 하향주파수 혼합기의 압력 IP3는 0 dBm 이며 전체회로의 소모전류는 22.1 mA이다.

Bombyx mori β-tubulin Promoter for High-level Expression of Heterologous Genes

  • We previously isolated 9 clones that show stronger signal compared to Bombyx mori cytoplasmic actin gene (BmA3) by using a dot blot hybridization. In this study, we focused on one clone among these clones which has high amino acid similarity with ${\beta}$-tubulin gene of B. mori. This clone was ubiquitously expressed in all tissues and developmental stage of B. mori. As result of promoter assay using dual luciferase assay system, we found the highest transcription activity region (-750/-1) in the 5'-flanking region of ${\beta}$-tubulin gene, which has about 47 fold more intensive promoter activity than BmA3 promoter. Moreover, the ${\beta}$-tubulin promoter was normally regulated in Bm5, Sf9, and S2 cells. Therefore, we suggest that ${\beta}$-tubulin promoter may be used more powerful and effectively for transgene expression in various insects containing B. mori as a universal promoter.

65 nm CMOS 공정을 이용한 W-대역 전력증폭기 설계 (Design of a W-Band Power Amplifier Using 65 nm CMOS Technology)

  • 본 논문에서는 차량 충돌 방지 장거리 레이더(Long Range Radar: LRR)을 위한 77 GHz 전력증폭기를 65 nm CMOS 공정을 이용하여 설계하였다. 제안한 회로는 3단 차동 전력증폭기로 공통 소스 구조와 트랜스포머를 사용했다. 측정결과로 77 GHz에서 18.7 dB의 전압 이득과 13 GHz의 3 dB 대역폭을 얻었다. 측정된 최대 출력 전력은 10.2 dBm, 입력 $P_{1dB}$는 -12 dBm, 출력 $P_{1dB}$는 5.7 dBm이며, 측정된 최대 전력 효율은 7.2 %이다. 본 전력증폭기는 1.2 V의 공급전원으로부터 140.4 mW의 DC 전력을 소모한다.

240 GHz, 1.485 Gbps 비디오신호 무선 전송 시스템 (A 1.485 Gbps Wireless Video Signal Transmission System at 240 GHz)

  • 240 GHz 대역의 캐리어 주파수를 이용하여 1.485 Gbps 비디오 전송 시스템을 설계 및 시뮬레이션 하였다. 송수신기는 Schottky Barrier 다이오드 기반의 Sub-harmonic 믹서를 이용하였으며 특히, 수신기는 Heterodyne 및 Direct Detection 두 가지 방식을 적용하여 각각의 성능을 시뮬레이션 하였다. 변조방식은 ASK이며, 수신기에서는 Envelop 검출 방식을 사용하였다. 송신기 시뮬레이션 결과 Sub-harmonic 믹서의 LO 전력 7 dBm(5 mW)에서 IF 입력 전력 -3 dBm(0.5 mW)일 때 RF 출력 전력은 -11.4 dBm($73{\mu}W$)이었으며, SSB(Single Side Band) Conversion Loss는 8.4 dB이다. VDI사의 상용모델 WR3.4SHM(220~325 GHz)의 240 GHz에서의 Conversion loss 8.0 dB(SSB)와 근접한 결과를 얻었다. 1.485 Gbps NRZ 신호전송 시뮬레이션 결과 전송신호와 동일한 수신 파형을 얻었다.

  • 본 논문에서는 Marchand 발룬, 트랜스포머와 주입 잠금 버퍼를 이용한 CMOS 2단 차동전력증폭기를 보여준다. 본 전력증폭기는 70 GHz 주파수 대역을 목표로 설계하였고, 65 nm 공정을 이용하여 제작하였다. 측정 결과, 71.3 GHz에서 8.5 dB의 최대 전압 이득과 7.3 GHz의 3 dB 대역폭을 얻었다. 측정된 최대 출력 전력은 8.2 dBm, 입력 $P_{1dB}$는 -2.8 dBm, 출력 $P_{1dB}$는 4.6 dBm이며, 최대 전력 부가 효율은 4.9 %이다. 본 전력증폭기는 1.2 V의 전원으로부터 102 mW의 DC 전력을 소모한다.

Lower Incidence but More Aggressive Behavior of Right Sided Breast Cancer in Pakistani Women: Does Right Deserve More Respect?

  • Background: The aim of this epidemiological study was to establish the laterality of breast cancer (BC) and its association with size, receptor status of the primary tumor and bone metastasis (BM) in a local population. Materials and Methods: This retrospective study included cases of BC from Jan-2009 to Dec-2011 who were referred for metastatic work up or follow up survey with Technetium-99m MDP bone scan (BS) to the Nuclear Medicine Department of Karachi Institute of Radiotherapy and Nuclear Medicine (KIRAN). A total of 384 patients out of 521 were included and all reviewed for age, primary tumor size (PTS), laterality, receptor status like estrogen receptor (ER) progesterone receptor (PR) and Her-2-Neu receptor, presence or absence of BM with sites of involvement and time interval between diagnosis of BC and appearance of BM. Results: The left to right sided BC proportion was significantly higher than unity (59%:41%; p<0.001). The right sided BC was observed in younger age group (46:52 years; p<0.0001) and with a smaller PTS than the left sided (3.43:4.15 cm; p<0.0001). The patients with BM had relatively higher negative receptor status with a significant predominance of right sided BC. The overall incidence of BM on BS was 28% and relatively higher in right than left breast (33%:24% p=0.068). The average number of BM sites was also significantly greater for the right side (6:4, P<0.0001). The % cumulative risk of BM in right breast was noted at significantly smaller PTS than left side with log rank value of 5.579; p<0.05. The Kaplan Meier survival plot for event free survival of BM in left sided BC was significantly higher than for the right side (log rank value=4.155, p<0.05), with an earlier appearance of BM in right BC. Conclusions: 1) A left sided predominance of BC was seen in local population; 2) right sided BC had a more aggressive behavior with extensive and earlier appearance of BM at relatively younger age, smaller PTS and receptor (s) negativity.

갑상선 유두암 뇌전이의 치료 효과 (Treatment Outcomes of Brain metastasis from Papillary Thyroid Cancer)

  • Background/Objectives: Brain metastasis (BM) is a rare form of distant metastasis with papillary thyroid cancer (PTC). Patients with BM of PTC carry a poor prognosis. The aim of this study was to contribute to the understanding of this disease by analyzing patients with BM of PTC. Materials & Methods: Between March 2003 and December 2013, the patient database was conducted to identify thyroid cancer patients treated. Among the 22,758 thyroid cancer patients, 14 (0.06 %) were identified to have metastasis to the brain during follow-up. The medical records of 14 patients with BM were retrospectively reviewed, focusing on the following: patient characteristics, synchronous or previous distant metastasis, treatments including whole brain radiotherapy (WBRT), stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) and surgery, and characteristics on radiologic findings, time interval between first diagnosis of primary thyroid cancer and BM and survival after BM. Results: The mean age at initial diagnosis and BM were $50.9{\pm}15.8years$ and $61.3{\pm}12.7years$. The mean duration between initial diagnosis and BM was $10.4{\pm}7.9years$. Patients were treated with varied combinations of surgery, SRS and WBRT except 4 patients who had refused treatment. The median overall survival (OS) time after BM diagnosis was 10 months (range 1 - 19). Patients receiving treatment (WBRT and/or surgery, SRS) had a significant longer median OS of 16.5 months in comparison to 3.5 months for those treated without treatment. (p = 0.005) Conclusion: Patients who received aggressive treatment had a longer OS than those with only supportive care. Treatment such as surgery, SRS and WBRT should be considered in patients with BM.
