Exploring a BIM-based approach of project management

  • Within the building industry, building information modelling has been widely applied among different organizations, disciplines and project phases. In order to achieve coordination and synergy collaborative effort, it demands organized information flow and communication for effective implementation of project management through the construction process. Although many BIM researches provides solutions for project management, few efforts have involved the whole life-cycle process of project. In this article, BIM-based project management relying on a series of applications of BIM technology was introduced by coupling management requirement of a project with BIM. Through adopting BIM to the life-cycle management of the project and incorporating BIM applications to project management practice, we have developed a BIM-based project management approach that specialize in integrated BIM chain and interface-supporting system. At the end, the developing process of BIM-based project management approach is concluded.

  • BIM technologies store, share and integrate the information produced in each sector of the construction industry. From this point on, it increases the efficiency of the work. Currently, quantity take-off and process schedule are derived separately based on BIM technology. When calculating the quantity by process, relevant information shall be collected, reinterpreted, and reevaluated as required by the practice. The purpose of this study is to develop an integrated process and quantity management system through BIM collaboration and to build prototypes for steel structures. The main research is to build a construction BIM model for steel structures and a process BIM model through BIM collaboration. Furthermore, necessary information was selected and processed according to the user's needs for integrated management. Relevant integration outcomes are visualized graphically to maximize utilization. Through these studies, a system for integrated control of processes and supplies is provided, and the results are expected to contribute to the improvement of working efficiency and are easily and quickly reflected in design change and process change. In this study, we intended to enhance the usability of information by linking process schedules with quantity calculations based on BIM. Thus, the process for integrated control of the quantity of structural components by process unit and the BIM based schedule information was established. In addition, the efficiency of the information link of the integrated management system was considered for design changes and process schedule changes.

  • The introduction of BIM technology is expanding not only in the field of design and construction, but also in the maintenance and use stage. In particular, researchers are looking to build a smart facility management system that integrates advanced IT technology and BIM. This study proposes the parts to be used and added to the BIM information, focusing on information generated and exchanged in the application case that is an issue during the current facility maintenance work by introducing the smart facility management technology and its use cases. The effectiveness of this proposal is compared with the scenario in which BIM-based facility safety management is applied and the current business scenario. In conclusion, the requirements for smart facility management are analyzed, and linkable parts between facility management tasks and BIM data that should be reflected in the facility management system are presented. In the maintenance phase, through the use case scenario, the facility management phase is subdivided according to the characteristics and contents of the work. In addition, information about the facilities required for each task is specified. Furthermore, it is examined whether BIM data and IT information can be linked with existing facility management systems. It is a process and guideline that can be provided to practitioners who want to introduce BIM and smart technology to facility management. It can define the required data items and levels according to the required information step by step based on the maintenance case.

  • Domestic and foreign software components are rapidly developing continuously. However, the government's plan to activate BIM remains relatively sluggish. In particular, BIM based information management systems have been developed to enable the development of degraded railway industries in infrastructure BIM based areas. For this purpose, we analyzed domestic and oversea policies and guidelines. We conducted a survey on the personnel of the railroad corporation. Based on the survey result, the elements applicable to BIM were reflected in the system.

  • 건설현장에서 정확한 진도를 관리하기 위해서는 비용정보와 일정정보를 결합한 통합정보가 요구되며 프로젝트의 성과측정을 위한 기초자료가 된다. 그러나 국내 건설공사는 비용과 일정정보를 각각 관리함으로써 객관적인 성과측정이 어려우며 내역서상의 물량을 액티비티에 분개하는 작업을 통해 생산성을 감소시킨다. 한편, BIM을 활용한 연구가 진행되면서 BIM을 통해 보다 효율적으로 진도관리하는 연구가 필요한 실정이며 현장에서는 일일 작업관리에 대한 필요성이 요구되고 있다. 이러한 건설 산업의 흐름에 따라 본 논문에서는 BIM 모델의 위치정보와 BIM기반의 견적데이터를 활용하여 3가지 타입의 진도관리단위를 생성하고 이를 통해 일일 진도율 및 일일 기성액을 파악하는 정보모텔을 제시하고자 한다.

Ontology-based Facility Maintenance Information Integration Model using IFC-based BIM data

  • Many construction projects have used the building information modeling (BIM) extensively considering data interoperability throughout the projects' lifecycles. However, the current approach, which is to collect the data required to support facility maintenance system (FMS) has a significant shortcoming in that there are various individual pieces of information to represent the performance of the facility and the condition of each of the elements of the facility. Since a heterogeneous external database could be used to manage a construction project, all of the conditions related to the building cannot be included in an integrated BIM-based building model for data exchange. In this paper, we proposed an ontology-based facility maintenance information model to integrate multiple, related pieces of information on the construction project using industry foundation classesbased (IFC-based) BIM data. The proposed process will enable the engineers who are responsible for facility management to use a BIM-based model directly in the FMS-based work process without having to do additional data input. The proposed process can help ensure that the management of FMS information is more accurate and reliable.

  • BIM library, as a systematic collection of BIM objects where the building information is stored, is a vital factor to construct the BIM based work environment. However, construction business is faced the problems relating BIM library such as the absence of the standard for establishing BIM library, the discontinuity of BIM library's compatibility and the lack of practice applicable BIM library. These problems cause the decreasing work efficiency and the recreating BIM model, by delivering inefficient information required in each stage and application field. The purpose of this study is to suggest the integrated management system for property information of BIM library in order to minimize the reworking and to manage information of each stage and application field when exchanging and sharing information. To achieve this, the BIM information classification, the criteria of property requirements for information exchange in BIM application field and the BIM library management system are developed. This study could contributes to ensuring the reliability and accuracy of results of BIM based analysis and to enhancing the speed of business process with sharing and exchanging building information utilizing a single BIM model.

  • BIM(Building Information Modeling)은 건설 프로젝트의 생애주기 동안 발생되는 정보의 호환성 및 재활용을 중심으로, 분절된 산업 구조에서 생성되는 정보의 불확실성, 부정확성, 표현 오류 및 표현에 대한 인식 오류 등을 최소화하기 위해 도입이 모색되고 있으며, 이로 인해 기존의 PMIS 시스템은 새로운 기회이자 기술적 도전에 직면하게 되었다. 하지만 기존의 BIM에 관한 연구는 기획/구조/설비/견적/설계/시공 시뮬레이션 등 분야별 BIM 기반 솔루션 개발 또는 IFC 중심의 정보 호환성 체계 구축에 초점을 맞추고 있을 뿐, 건설 프로젝트의 쳐업 및 정보 관리를 효과적으로 지원하기에는 한계를 가지고 있어, 새로운 개발전략 및 방안이 요구되고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 기존 ASP기반 PMIS를 중심으로 BIM+PMIS 시스템의 구축 방안을 제안하고, 제안된 구축 방안 중 핵심이 되는 BIM 기반 정보 관리 모듈에 관한 프로토타입을 소개하고자 한다.

BIM 복합객체에 대한 속성정보의 통합관리 (Integrated Information Management for Composite Object Properties in BIM)

  • 건설산업에 BIM이 확대 적용되어 감에 따라, 건축물 유지관리에 BIM을 적용하기 위한 연구개발이 활발하게 진행되고 있다. 하지만, 건축물 전 생애주기를 고려한 BIM기반 건축물 요구정보의 입력과정은 초기 설계단계에서부터 전문가에 의하여 유지관리를 고려한 수작업의 개입이 요구되며, 단계별 및 주체별로 시설물 유지관리 요구정보의 입력항목이 구분되어 있지 않아, 실무에서 이를 모두 입력 하는 데에는 많은 어려움이 있다. 또한, 유지관리 요구정보는 IFC (Industry Foundation Classes)기반의 건물 모델파일과 직접적으로 연계될 수 있으나, 일반 사용자가 유지관리단계를 고려한 IFC 파일을 생성 하는 데에는 정보입력의 수준 및 범위에 대하여 한계가 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 프로젝트 진행 단계별 BIM정보 전달과정의 비효율성을 최소화하고 복합객체에 대한 속성정보의 통합적인 관리를 위하여, BIM기반 복합객체에 대한 속성정보의 통합관리 방안을 제안한다. 본 연구를 통하여, 단계별로 다르게 적용되는 BIM정보의 개발상세수준에 따라 개별 제품정보를 통합적으로 관리하는 것이 가능하여, 단계별로 진행되는 BIM기반 데이터 분석과정에서 발생할 수 있는 속성정보에 대한 혼란을 제거하여 적정한 속성정보의 활용 및 분석결과의 신뢰성과 정확성을 확보할 수 있다.

BIM데이터를 활용한 건설공사 일정관리 시스템 개발 연구 (Development of Construction Schedule Management System based on BIM)

  • As construction projects become larger, higher and more complex, efficient use of information is increasingly more important. As a result, there is a growing demand to apply BIM data obtained in the design stage to the construction stage. In this study, we propose a BIM-based construction schedule management system in order to promote introduction and application of BIM in the construction stage. Specifically, we provided how to build BIM database to be used for construction schedule management, and proposed how to obtain progress information and enter information based on analysis of progress schedule. We also provided a system of classifying construction works for more systematic use of BIM database, a process of using BIM database in construction projects, and a step-by-step guideline on how to establish the system. The proposed construction schedule management system provides information on particular construction schedule, as well as information and progress chart on delayed parts of the work so that a change in schedule can be managed. Additionally, by linking system database with the BIM model, construction progress can be checked in 3D simulation and a delay in construction schedule can be managed. As a result, using BIM at construction sites contributes to improving project productivity.
