Automotive Diagnostic Gateway using Diagnostic over Internet Protocol

  • Recently, Ethernet-based Diagnostic Over Internet Protocol (DoIP) was applied to automotive systems, and in-vehicle gateways have been introduced to integrate Ethernet with traditional in-vehicle networks, such as the local interconnect network (LIN), controller area network (CAN) and FlexRay. The introduction of in-vehicle gateways and of Ethernet based diagnostic protocols not only decreases the complexity of the networks, but also reduces the update time for ECU software reprogramming while enabling the use of a range of services, including remote diagnostics. In this paper, a diagnostic gateway was implement for an automotive system, and the performance measurements are presented. In addition, a range of applications provided by the diagnostic gateway are proposed.

  • This study presents the development of Gateway Control Module using SAE J1939 protocol for the commercial vehicles. Presently, the load rate of CAN bus is increased by the single network composition and addition of new ECUs for development of intelligent vehicles. Because the embedded system of the integrated network control function has the errors of the CAN bus caused by the increase of ECU, it is needed for development of commercial vehicles. Also, this study presents the development of smart functions that can diagnosis CAN bus errors, fault diagnosis of ECU and basic function that arbitrates CAN bus between ECUs of commercial vehicle. GCM was designed for 4channel separation about Gateway function as solution of load rate decrease and smart functions. HILS(Hardware in the loop simulation)system that can achieve simulation about CAN Messages of all systems on vehicle was applied to evaluate performance and verification of all functions and performance. The load rate on CAN bus was decreased at using functions what was delivery, block and process of GCM. Through this, it was enabled to organize systematic architecture for gateway.

  • This paper describes a gateway system based on a MOST network for integrating several different automotive network protocols. For transparent data communication among different protocols regardless of the high-level messages and the data format, Pseudo MOST frame was designed based on MOST frame and this pseudo MOST data frame is used as the data carrier. For automotive application, two types of gateways were developed, one board-type gateway and small-sized module-type gateways. One board-type gateway has ethernet port, video port and audio port. Meanwhile, small-sized module-type gateways are developed for video, audio, bluetooth and Flexray, respectively. Experiments with a network system using several small-sized module gateways verified efficient data communication among different network protocols and confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed gateway system for automotive network integration.

  • As vehicles become more intelligent, in-vehicle networking (IVN) systems such as controller area network (CAN) or FlexRay are essential for convenience and safety of drivers. To expand the applicability of IVN systems, attention is currently being focused on the communication between heterogeneous networks such as body networking and chassis networking systems. A gateway based on message mapping method was developed to interconnect FlexRay and CAN networks. However, this type of gateways has the following shortcomings. First, when a message ID was changed, the gateway must be reloaded with a new mapping table reflecting the change. Second, if the number of messages to be transferred between two networks increase, software complexity of gateway increases very rapidly. In order to overcome these disadvantages, this paper presents FlexRay-CAN gateway based on node mapping method. More specifically, this paper presents a node mapping based FlexRay-CAN gateway operation algorithm along with the experimental evaluation for ID change.

  • The recent automobiles, a number of ECU inside the vehicle has been used. Also, each ECU is connected to different types of networks in accordance with the characteristics. Therefore, efficient data exchange between discrete network has emerged as a very important element. The gateway is responsible for the ability to exchange data between discrete network. In this study, we propose the new gateway algorithm to provide the structure of the mapping table to improve the efficiency of data exchange between discrete network. Also it provides a structure of a new gateway algorithm with a function of adjusting the priority of the data to be transmitted to another network arbitrarily. Moreover, the proposed gateway structure may simultaneously convert the transmission data input from a particular network to multiple networks. Another advantage is easy to change the entire data structure only if we change the table structure in the gateway.

  • MOST150, which has a higher bandwidth than of MOST25, appears to satisfy the demand for the automotive infotainment system and to increase the multimedia processing capacity, and the various technology applications are required for the accomplishment of MOST150 development. The MOST25 network technology is being restrictively equipped with some of the car models but the problems with bandwidth and compatibility has arisen. In order to solve this, the MOST150 technology has been developed and further research is being carried out to apply the technology to the automobile industry. Thus, for the effective process of the Ethernet traffic in the realization of MOST150/Ethernet Gateway for automobile, we, in the research, shall analyse the Management Mapping method, including the MOST150's Isochronous channel, the MOST Ethernet Packet channel, and etc. and study the efficient algorithm.

  • The application of MOST150 technology has been required to satisfy the demand for the automotive infotainment system and the higher bandwidth requirements caused by the increase of the multimedia processing capacity. The Ethernet technology applied gateway was implemented for an efficient transmission of multimedia, a vehicle diagnosis, an external communication, a data processing between the MOST150 and the CAN communication method applied to many existing vehicles. The new algorithm and application were suggested in order to efficiently perform the data processing between other types of communication systems. The existing MOST150 frame is mainly composed of the Control Channel, the Legacy Packet Channel(async) and the Synchronous /Isochronous Channels and performs the data processing through these sequential channels. With the sense of this process, this study suggested the new algorithm that the Mapping method of the IETF's QoS Management was applied to the MOST150 technology for the efficient QoS.

  • FlexRay is a new standard of network communication system which provides a high speed serial communication, time triggered bus and fault tolerant communication between electronic devices for future automotive applications. The speed of FlexRay is 10 times higher than that of CAN. In this paper, FlexRay module is implemented using MC9S12XF512 micro-controller and gateway converting CAN message to FlexRay message. It is shown that the implemented system operates successfully.

  • 자동차 내에는 여러 종류의 차량용 네트워크가 사용되고 있다. 자동차에서 요구되는 서비스의 종류가 다양해짐에 따라 차량용 네트워크의 특성 또한 다양해지고 있다. 최근 이들 네트워크 간의 협업이 중요하게 인식되어 차량용 네트워크 게이트웨이가 등장하게 되었으나 서로 다른 특성의 네트워크를 효율적으로 지원하기 위한 방안에 대해서는 아직 충분히 연구되지 않았다. 그 대표적인 예로서 서로 다른 네트워크의 통신 실시간성 요구를 만족하기 위한 효율적인 시스템 소프트웨어의 구조를 들 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 차량운전 및 안전성과 직결되는 전장용 네트워크 도메인과 인포테인먼트 시스템을 위한 네트워크 도메인을 구분하고 전장용 네트워크의 실시간성을 지원하기 위한 리눅스 기반의 차량용 네트워크 게이트웨이를 제안한다. 성능 측정 결과 제안된 게이트웨이는 인포테인먼트 네트워크 도메인의 통신에 영향을 받지 않고 전장용 네트워크 도메인의 실시간성을 보장해줄 수 있음을 보인다.

Flow and Electricity Power Characteristics of Hydraulic Turbine for Power Generation with Geothermal Energy System (지열에너지 시스템을 적용한 발전용 수차의 유동과 전력 특성)

  • Geothermal energy is used in various types, such as power generation, direct use, and geothermal heat pumps. Geothermal energy with high temperature have been used for power generation for more than a century. The purpose of the study is to investigate flow and electricity power characteristics of hydraulic turbine for power generation of geothermal heat pump type with closed-system. The differences between the four types of hydraulic turbine, are different from the blade shape, volume, angle and etc. In case of prototype(1), pressure at blade was reduced to 2.1 bar, the kinetic energy of blade increased by increasing flow velocity(4.1 m/s). The increase of flow velocity at the blade edge markedly appeared, to increase the kinetic energy of the rotating shaft. In case that gateway in hydraulic turbine was installed, operating torque and RPM(1,080) of the rotating shaft increased respectively. Although rotational speed of prototype(2) compared to prototype(1) was reduced, the power generation capacity was greater about 3.4 times to 97 W. The most power of 255W was generated from prototype (4).
