Fe-31% Ni-0.2% C 합금(合金)의 오스폼드 마르텐사이트와 마르폼드 마르텐사이트의 역변태처리(逆變態處理)에 의한 강화효과(強化效果) (Effect of Strengthening by Reverse Transformation of Ausformed Martensite and Marformed Martensite of Fe-31% Ni-0.2% C Alloy)

  • In this study, the ausformed martensite and marformed martensite obtained from austenite with various deformation degrees in Fe-31% Ni-0.2%C alloy were transformed to revesed austenite at $510^{\circ}C$ by cyclic reverse martensite transformation. The effect of prior deformation, the rapid heating rate of reversion and number of cyclic transformation on the microstructure, mechanical properties of reversed austenite were investigated. The reverse austenite transformation is accomplised by the mechanism of shear type transformation. The structure of reversed austenite formed from ausformed martensite and marformed martensite with high deformation degrees is a fine structure of nearly equiaed grain containg a high density of dislocation tangles and was largely affected by the prior deformation applied before reversal transformation. The strength of reversed austenite is more increased with of cyclic transformation especially it is strength at the first cyclic transformation. The yield stress of revesed austenite of ausformed martensite is lower than that of marformed martensite.

  • Austenite precipitation behavior was studied with solidification rates and alloying contents, N and Cr, in duplex stainless steels by directional solidification. Directional solidification experiments were carried out with solidification rates, $1{\sim}100mm/s$, and N and Cr contents, $0{\sim}0.27wt.%,\;25{\sim}28wt.%$ respectively, in a duplex stainless steel, CD4MCU. As the solidification rate increases, the dendrite spacing reduced and the austenite phase in the ferrite matrix became finer. The volume fraction of austenite phase increased and its shape went to be round with increasing nitrogen contents in duplex stainless alloys. The Cr alloying element, even though it is a ferrite former, showed to enhance the nitrogen solubility in the alloy and caused the austenite round and finer. Also, Cr was supposed to decrease the austenite volume fraction, but it increased the austenite slightly due to increasing nitrogen solubility during solidification.

  • In the present study, we investigated the austenite stability of a sintered Fe-based nanocrystalline alloy. The volume fraction of austenite was measured based on the X-ray diffraction data of sintered Fe-based nanocrystalline alloys, which were prepared by high-energy ball milling and spark plasma sintering. The sintered alloy samples showed a higher volume fraction of austenite at room temperature as compared to the equilibrium volume fraction of austenite obtained using thermodynamic calculations, which resulted from the nanosized crystalline structure of the sintered alloy. It was proved that the austenite stability of the sintered Fe-based alloy increased with a rise in the amount of austenite stabilizing elements such as Mn, Ni, and C; however, it increased more effectively with a decrease in the actual grain size. Furthermore, we proposed a new equation to predict the martensite starting temperature for sintered Fe-based alloys.

  • We investigate the austenite stability in nanocrystalline Fe-7%Mn-X%Mo (X = 0, 1, and 2) alloys fabricated by spark plasma sintering. Mo is known as a ferrite stabilizing element, whereas Mn is an austenite stabilizing element, and many studies have focused on the effect of Mn addition on austenite stability. Herein, the volume fraction of austenite in nanocrystalline Fe-7%Mn alloys with different Mo contents is measured using X-ray diffraction. Using a disk compressive test, austenite in Fe-Mn-Mo alloys is confirmed to transform into strain-induced martensite during plastic deformation by a disk d. The variation in austenite stability in response to the addition of Mo is quantitatively evaluated by comparing the k-parameters of the kinetic equation for the strain-induced martensite transformation.

  • Recently developed Austenite stainless steel,309L was to overlay on 3Cr-1Mo-V-Ti-B steels, using Electroslag welding process, which wide electrodes were adopted. Transition region in welding interlayer relating to disbonding crack was investigated. Also. the effect of welding condition on the width of transition region and coarsening grains of the austenite were studied.1) With increasing welding speed the width of martensite at transient region was increased, but the amount of delta ferrite in weld metal was reduced, being fine grained.2) The form of martensite at the transition region was occured by reversible transition region, leading to increasing Ms point.3) With increasing welding speed, the grain of austenite formed at the welding interface was finer. With increasing welding current under the same welding speed, the grain size of the austenite was finer. At high current, original grain size of the austenite is coarse, but the austenite has fine grains because the austenite was transformed to martensite during cooling.4) In the case of high welding speed, the width of martensite at the welding interface was increased, but the grain size of austenite at the welding interface was finer. This indicates that the inhibition of disbonding crack may be achieved through dispersening fine carbides in the grain boudary.(Received August 3, 1999)

나노결정 FeMnNiC합금의 오스테나이트 안정성 (Austenite Stability of Nanocrystalline FeMnNiC Alloy)

  • In the present study, we have investigated the effect of sintering process conditions on the stability of the austenite phase in the nanocrystalline Fe-5wt.%Mn-0.2wt.%C alloy. The stability and volume fraction of the austenite phase are the key factors that determine the mechanical properties of FeMnC alloys, because strain-induced austenite-martensite transformation occurs under the application of an external stress at room temperature. Nanocrystalline Fe-5wt.%Mn-0.2wt.%C samples are fabricated using the spark plasma sintering method. The stability of the austenite phase in the sintered samples is evaluated by X-ray diffraction analysis and hardness test. The volume fraction of austenite at room temperature increases as the sample is held for 10 min at the sintering temperature, because of carbon diffusion in austenite. Moreover, water quenching effectively prevents the formation of cementite during cooling, resulting in a higher volume fraction of austenite. Furthermore, it is found that the hardness is influenced by both the austenite carbon content and volume fraction.

  • The effects of immersion time in the liquid nitrogen and deformation-induced martensitic transformation on the behavior of austenite stainless steels used for the hydrogen storage tank of auto-mobile at cryogenic temperature were investigated. With increasing of immersion time in the liquid nitrogen, the tensile strength of all austenite stainless steels at cryogenic temperature was increased because the martensite transformation of unstable austenite. The restraint of crack generation ana transmission also increased the tensile strength by the active ${\alpha}'$ transformation. The elongation decreasing of 321 steel is not the mechanical deformation of austenite phase but the stress induced martensite phase during the tensile test.

The Effects of TiN Particles on the HAZ Microstructure and Toughness in High Nitrogen TiN Steel

  • In the coarse grain HAZ adjacent to the fusion line, most of the TiN particles in conventional Ti added steel are dissolved and austenite grain growth is easily occurred during welding process. To avoid this difficulty, thermal stability of TiN particle is improved by increasing the nitrogen content in steel. In this study, the effect of hlgh nitrogen TiN particle on preventing austenite grain growth in HAZ was investigated. Increased thermal stability of TiN particle is helpful for preventing the austenite grain growth by pinning effect. High nitrogen TiN particle in simulated HAZ were not dissolved even at high temperature such as 1400'E and prevented the austenite grain growth in simulated HAZ. Owing to small austenite grain size in HAZ the width of coarse grain HAZ in high nitrogen TiN steel was decreased to 1/10 of conventional TiN steel. Even high heat input welding, the microstructure of coarse grain HAZ consisted of fine polygonal ferrite and pearlite and toughness of coarse grain HAZ was significantly improved.

Fe-Ni 합금 나노 분말의 마르텐사이트 변태에 관한 연구 (A Study on Martensite Transformation of Fe-Ni Alloy Nanoparticles)

  • Fe-Ni alloy nanoparticles were prepared by ERC (Evaporation and Rapid Condensation) method, and the crystal structure and the behavior of martensite for the nanosized alloy particles were investigated by X-ray diffraction analysis. The relation between the rate of martensite transformation and the internal strain of austenite was discussed. The lattice spaces of austenite and martensite for the nanoparticles agreed with those of the bulk materials. The rate of martensite transformation from austenite and the internal strain of austenite was reduced with decreasing the average size of Fe-Ni nanoparticles. It was thought that the residual austenite in the Ni content range of 11∼l5at% was caused by the internal strain, and the residual martensite in the Ni content range of 32∼36at% had its origin in the high surface energy of nanoparticles.
