  • Objectives: This study was to evaluate the effect of Palmijihwang-whan (PMJHW) aqueous extract in the regulation of hypothyroidism related reproductive organ damages in propylthiouracil (PTU)-induced rat model. Methods: PMJHW aqueous extract (yield=17.90%) were administered, once a day for 42 days from 2 weeks before start of PTU treatment as oral doses of 500, 250, and 125 mg/kg (body weight), and hypothyroidism was induced by daily subcutaneous treatment of PTU 10 mg/kg for 28 days. Results: PTU-induced hypothyroidism and related male reproductive organ damages-atrophic changes of testis, epididymis and prostate, were favorably and dose-dependently inhibited by treatment of PMJHW 500, 250, and 125 mg/kg. They also effectively regulated the PTU-induced abnormal antioxidant defense system changes in the testis. Although levothyroxine also favorably inhibited PTU-induced hypothyroidism, it deteriorated the hypothyroidism related male reproductive organ damages through testicular oxidative damages. The results suggest that oral administration of 125, 250, and 500 mg/kg of PMJHW has favorable effects on the hypothyroidism and related reproductive organ damages through augmentation of antioxidant defense system in the testis. Conclusions: This study suggest that PMJHW may be help to ameliorate the hypothyroidism and related organ damages in clinics.

  • The complete avoidance of cavitation, as a result of gap flow between the fixed and movable portion of a horn type rudder system, is difficult. To reduce gap flow, it is a common practice to attach a half round prismatic bar that protrudes beyond the concave surface of the horn facing the gap and laid along the centerplane of the rudder. However the employment of such a device does not always yield satisfactory results. Previously, the authors have shown that a pair of blocking bars, attached on the convex surface of the movable portion, better enhance the blocking ability of gap flow to that of a single centre bar installed on the concave surface. This also circumvents difficulties that might occur in practical applications. In the present study, a series of numerical computations show that flow injected into the gap of a rudder may also block the flow within, without employment of any physical devices, such as a half circular bar. This study also shows that the combination of flow injection and blocking bars may result in the synergic augmentation of blocking efficiency of gap flow, as demonstrated in computations for a three dimensional rudder system.

  • The objective of the present study is to determine whether blue honeysuckle lyophilized concentrated powder (BH) has favorable effects on hypothyroidism and related reproductive organ damage. Hypothyroidism was induced by 9 subcutaneous administration of propylthiouracil (PTU) for 28 days. Levothyroxine (LT4)-treated group was intraperitoneally injected with LT4 for the same period, while for BH (125, 250, and 500 mg/kg) or Flos Lonicerae lyophilized aqueous extract (LF, 250 mg/kg)-treated groups, the test materials were orally administrated for 42 days: two weeks before PTU injection and during PTU administration. The changes in serum thyroid hormone levels, serum male sex hormone levels, and testis antioxidant defense system were observed by histopathology of the thyroid gland, epididymis, prostate, and testis. The oral administrations of 125, 250, and 500 mg/kg of BH showed favorable effects compared to LF on hypothyroidism and related damages of reproductive organs through augmentation of the antioxidant defense system in the testis. In conclusion, BH is a promising new potent thyroid gland protecting agent.

  • The Satellite-based Augmentation System (SBAS), as a safety critical system, should be verified on an ongoing basis to ensure the adequate performance. This study proposes two methods to evaluate the performance of SBAS satellite correction. Analysis methods based on precise ephemeris and measurement were applied to present an evaluation method for SBAS satellite correction, and a test was performed based on real data. The precise ephemeris-based analysis method had no limitations on the position of the test user and showed a high precision, enabling an accurate performance analysis in various positions. Although the measurement-based analysis method has the advantage of fast data interval, it showed a relatively lower accuracy due to the effects of various error factors. Compared with the precise ephemeris-based analysis method, there was a large difference of more than 5 m at the beginning of smoothing filter, and a difference less than 50 cm when filtered for more than an hour.

  • This paper proposes a two-stage Water Shield Automation System (WSAS) to predict the possibility of river overflow and vehicle flooding due to sudden rainfall. The WSAS uses a two-stage Deep Neural Network (DNN) model. First, a river overflow prediction module is designed with LSTM to decide whether the river is flooded by predicting the river's water level rise. Second, a vehicle flooding prediction module predicts flooding of underground parking lots by detecting flooded tires with YOLOv5 from CCTV images. Finally, the WSAS automatically installs the water barrier whenever the river overflow and vehicle flooding events happen in the underground parking lots. The only constraint to implementing is that collecting training data for flooded vehicle tires is challenging. This paper exploits the Image C&S data augmentation technique to synthesize flooded tire images. Experimental results validate the superiority of WSAS by showing that the river overflow prediction module can reduce RMSE by three times compared with the previous method, and the vehicle flooding detection module can increase mAP by 20% compared with the naive detection method, respectively.

  • Deep learning advancements can solve computer vision problems, but large-scale datasets are necessary for high accuracy. In this paper, we propose an image generation technique using object bounding boxes and image edge components. The object bounding boxes are extracted from the images through object detection, and image edge components are used as input values for the image generation model to create new image data. As results of experiments, the images generated by the proposed method demonstrated similar image quality to the source images in the image quality assessment, and also exhibited good performance during the deep learning training process.

  • Wide Area Differential GNSS(WA-DGNSS) was developed in order to improve the accuracy and integrity performance of GNSS. In this paper, overall structure of Pseudolite-Based Augmentation System(PBAS) and experimental methods which enables the post-processing test with commercial receiver will be described. For generating augmenting message, GPS measurement collected from five NDGPS reference stations were processed by reference station S/W and master station S/W. The accuracy of augmenting message was tested by comparing SP3, IONEX data. In the test, RF signal of user was collected and correction data were generated. After that, RF signal was broadcasted with pseudolite signal. Test was conducted using three commercial receiver and the performance was compared with MSAS and standalone user. From the position output of each receiver, it was shown that improved position was obtained by applying augmenting message.

  • This paper presents an online partial 3D modeling methodology that uses a mobile augmented reality system and aerial photographs, and a tracking methodology that compares the 3D model with a video image. Instead of relying on models which are created in advance, the system generates a 3D model for a real building on the fly by combining frontal and aerial views. A user's initial pose is estimated using an aerial photograph, which is retrieved from a database according to the user's GPS coordinates, and an inertial sensor which measures pitch. We detect edges of the rooftop based on Graph cut, and find edges and a corner of the bottom by minimizing the proposed cost function. To track the user's position and orientation in real-time, feature-based tracking is carried out based on salient points on the edges and the sides of a building the user is keeping in view. We implemented camera pose estimators using both a least squares estimator and an unscented Kalman filter (UKF). We evaluated the speed and accuracy of both approaches, and we demonstrated the usefulness of our computations as important building blocks for an Anywhere Augmentation scenario.
