  • "Interactivity refers to the possibility of an audience actively participating in the control of an artwork or representation." Andy Cameron, Dissimulations Interaction can be described as a way or function that improves the participation of audiences/viewers to being immersed into the medium itself. Until now, however, in terms of interactive cinema, interaction has not shown a sufficient participation for audiences. Specifically, audiences/viewers described that the structure of storytelling has failed to satisfy their requirements, in order to participate in the structure of storytelling. The aim of the research itself, therefore, began to ask and wonder why audiences/viewers criticised the participation which audiences/viewers are able to control storytelling, in interactive cinema, could not satisfied them in order to control and follow a storyline of interaction. In general idea, in interactive cinema, the function which allows audiences/viewers to be immersed into the storylines, must allow the immediacies of interaction. Audiences/viewers must therefore be able to satisfy the general idea of interactive cinema through controlling the directions of every choice offered. They must also be able to be immersed in the interactive storylines. Which of the prime causes can be improved or re-considered, to satisfy the participation requirements of audiences/viewers? The intention of this research also began to investigate a suitable method of storytelling within a narrative structure of interactive medium (interactive cinema). Through questioning the matter (it will be described in a later chapter), this research will be focused on the relationship between narrative structured interaction and audiences/viewers, which is of prime importance in relation to interaction. To further the research, Pilot study (experiment with the basic interactive narrative structure) was offered in order to understand and maintain a suitable method of storytelling within a narrative structure of interactive cinema and it also was explored to understand how the aim of the research would be maintained for further qualitative research.

Today, with the changes in the media environment represented by convergence and transmedia, discussions on audiences are actively developing, and debates between positive and negative views on the cultural and political characteristics continue. This paper aims to systematically examine the complexity and ambivalence of new audiences beyond the binomial confrontational debate, and to understand the conditions and mechanisms under which the progressive possibility can be actualized. • The Eighteenth Century Shakespeare's Women Audiences: From Objects of Sexual Appetite to Ladies of Quality Abstract Younglim Han (Kyungpook National U) This paper aims to give an account of the eighteenth century Shakespeare's women audiences who marked a turning-point in the history of Shakespeare's popularity. The 1736 formation of the 'Shakespeare Ladies Club' as a leading group of the female audience encouraged the theater managers to perform more Shakespeare. Stage productions relied more than ever on the favorites of women audiences. The establishment of female patronage was associated with the popularity of Shakespeare's crossed-dressed comedies and actresses in 'breeches' part. The outstanding achievement of the Ladies was their contribution to the promotion of Shakespeare's status as an embodiment of British culture and the acknowledgement of the dignity of national literature. They were successful in securing the native sense of Shakespeare in place of Italian opera and Harlequin pantomime. The recognition of the national significance of Shakespeare led a campaign to erect his monument in Westminster Abbey. The female audience's claim to the respectable Shakespeare provided the stimulus for transforming his plays in the interests of family values such as marital duty and domestic morality. Marina (1738), George Lillo's adaptation of Pericles that was dedicated to the Ladies, was an exemplary case. The domestic versions of Shakespeare stressed the importance of women characters and the idealization of them. Thus the reception of Shakespeare in the eighteenth century was characteristic of formulating the women audiences-performers-characters association. The female yearning for a refined theater was a significant achievement, considering its influence on ways of establishing the canonical Shakespeare in the eighteenth century.

  • This is a study on the subjectivity of audiences about preference of documentaries on TV. Accordingly, Q-methodology was used for this study. As a result, audiences' various characteristics by preference types were able to be found. The individual characteristics were classified into three styles: an entertainment-oriented style pursuing enjoyment, public and society interest-oriented style pursuing public purpose, and culture-oriented style pursuing artistic value of documentaries in order. It could be inferred from the classification of preference styles that unlike the past, the choice of TV broadcasting of audiences was shifting from the passive and media-dependent form to positive form. Therefore, the research and development of content delivery and production in the multi-media and multi-channel digital broadcasting era should be focused on not only the content itself but also an audience-centered service development model reflecting audiences' desire and hope.
