  • Background: Occupational workers at altitudes are more prone to falls, leading to catastrophic outcomes. Acrophobia, height-related anxiety, and affected executive functions lead to postural instabilities, causing falls. This study investigated the effects of repeated virtual height exposure and training on cognitive processing and height-related anxiety. Methods: Twenty-eight healthy volunteers (age 20.48 ± 1.26 years; mass 69.52 ± 13.78 kg) were recruited and tested in seven virtual environments (VE) [ground (G), 2-story altitude (A1), 2-story edge (E1), 4-story altitude (A2), 4-story edge (E2), 6-story altitude (A3), and 6-story edge (E3)] over three days. At each VE, participants identified occupational hazards present in the VE and completed an Attitude Towards Heights Questionnaire (ATHQ) and a modified State-Trait Anxiety Inventory Questionnaire (mSTAIQ). The number of hazards identified and the ATHQ and mSTAIQ scores were analyzed using a 7 (VE; G, A1, A2, A3, E1, E2, E3) x 3 (DAY; DAY 1, DAY 2, DAY 3) factorial repeated measures analysis of variance. Results: The participants identified the lowest number of hazards at A3 and E3 VEs and on DAY 1 compared to other VEs and DAYs. ATHQ scores were lowest at G, A1, and E1 VEs. Conclusion: Cognitive processing is negatively affected by virtual altitudes, while it improves with short-term training. The features of virtual reality, such as higher involvement, engagement, and reliability, make it a better training tool to be considered in ergonomic settings. The findings of this study will provide insights into cognitive dual-tasking at altitude and its challenges, which will aid in minimizing occupational falls.

Especially, the challenge in maintaining competitive efficiency depends on achieving a lower level of employee turnover. This study aims to investigate the role of job insecurity, job satisfaction, relationship with customers regarding the intention of retention among social enterprise workers. Data were collected in South Korea from 271 women employees in 36 social enterprises and the binomial logistic regression was used to assess the model hypothesized. As the result, social enterprise employees showed a considerably positive attitude toward the intent to stay their workplace. However, job insecurity appeared to have the strongest negative effect on the intention of retention, whereas job satisfaction and relationship with customers had the positive effects, above and beyond demographic variables and organization variables. The result suggested the human resource management can play a significant role in retaining social enterprise employees by reducing job instability and improving job satisfaction and customers management.

The citizen-initiative has become an important concept in the direction of community welfare efforts. However, this concept has not been defined clearly in social welfare. In this context, the purpose of this study is to find how the practitioners of the social welfare practice field recognize the concept of citizen-initiative. In this study, concept mapping method was used to generate 59 statements about the citizeninitiative in 10 social workers in Seoul. Multidimensional scaling analysis and hierarchical cluster analysis are used to do mapping and grouping the 59 statements. The results are as follows. A total of 6 categories were derived. The six categories are named "Inducement of Participation", "Practice", "Procedure", "Awareness and Interest extension", "Expression of Opinion", "Attitude and Emotion". "Practice" category was revealed as a core category in the concept of citizen-initiative. This study is meaningful as a first step to discuss "what is the citizen-initiative?" and to make consensus in social welfare academic area and practice field.

For this study, an online survey has been conducted on office workers to analyze 380 sets of answers, reviewed reliability and validity through CFA and used SPSS 25.0, AMOS 25.0, Macro Process 3.0, a bootstrap method to test hypothesis. As a result, it is verified that an employee's gratitude disposition positively affects OCB, POS and job satisfaction and that there exists a multiple mediation effect of POS and job satisfaction. In this study, it is validated that an employee's gratitude disposition has a positive influence on OCB and an employee's gratitude disposition, an individual trait, is a related antecedent variable of POS. The result of this study is meaningful that it suggests boosting gratitude disposition, a positive psychological factor, in an organization can positively affect employees' job attitude and organization effectiveness.

  • This study examines how labor unions change in the 21st centry and what is needed for successful transformation of Korean labor union. The study identifies four major driving forces of change in union's role. They are changes in industrial and occupational structures, utilization of information technology, labor substitution, and changing attitude of workers. The effects are decrease in union membership, shrinking coverage of bargaining, weakening voice mechanism, and representation. Thus, labor unions in the 21st centry transform themselves into service union, individual representation system, and worker participation model. Korean labor union, with its current reputation of militant unionism, needs to transform into above mentioned model. Two keys for the change are market competition and family unionism.

  • Teachers, parents and students have regarded teacher librarians as a book keeper who doesn't participate in teaching. Consequently teacher librarianship has not satisfied occupational function and qualities of professional workers and teacher librarians' vocational presence appears to be very frail because of school library policies ignoring teacher librarians appointment, the law and system identifing librarinship with teacher librarianship. But its ultimate cause is Library and Information Science Community's attitude of sideliners that doesn't holding teacher librarians oriented preparation programs for their instructional qualification. Thus it is essential for the members of academic communities to recognize teacher librarians as an educational media specialist and develop various curricula in order to strengthen the occupational status of teacher librarians. Also it requires that teacher librarians improve his/her individual ability with self evaluation and increase activities of their professional institutions.
