Objectives The purpose of this case study was to report the main effect of Yangdokbaekho-tang to a Soyangin atopic dermatitis patient. Methods This patient was treated by Yangdokbaekho-tang, topical herbal extract, moxa and acupuncture according to the result of Sasang constitutional diagnosis. Results and Conclusions The patient's subjective symptoms of atopic dermatitis and general condition were improved after using Yangdokbaekho-tang in spite of patient's loose stool. The SCORAD index (Scoring Atopic Dermatitis Severity Index) which was used to evaluate the therapeutic effect of Sasang constitutional treatment on atopic dermatitis was also decreased from 86.3 to 42.8 without using anti-histamine or steroid medications.

Objectives : Atopic dermatitis is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by severe pruritus, and may be accompanied by Molluscum Contagiosum, Verruca Vulgaris. This paper aims to examine the clinical implications of the treatment of 3 cases of atopic dermatitis with Molluscum Contagiosum, Verruca Vulgaris. Methods : 3 patients were treated by herbal medicine, herbal acupuncture, acupuncture, moxibustion and external preparations. Photographs of lesions, VAS were used to evaluate the changes in symptoms. Results : Atopic dermatitis is accompanied by Molluscum Contagiosum or Verruca Vulgaris because the underlying cell layer is easily exposed to Molluscum Contagiosum and Human papilloma virus because of scatch by pruritus. And all three cases have been well recovered by korean medical treatment. Conclusions : This study shows that Korean medical treatment is effective to treat atopic dermatitis with Molluscum Contagiosum, Verruca Vulgaris.

Objective : This case report presents the effect of Chijabyukpi-tang(梔子檗皮湯) on Atopic Dermatitis. The patient was diagnosed with Yangmyung-Yeoljeung(陽明熱證) based on Shanghanlun provisions. Methods : We have classified the patients according to the shanghanlun six meridian patterns diagnostic system and the patients are treated with Chijabyukpi-tang. The severity of Atopic dermatitis was evaluated by SCORAD index, visual analouge scale(VAS) and pictures. Results : After the treatment, the SCORAD index of 2 patients decreased from 78 to 20.2 and from 67.4 to 38.2 respectively. Conclusions : Although Chijabyukpi-tang is unusual treatment for Atopic dermatitis, this case report showed the effectiveness of using Chijabyukpi-tang on Atopic dermatitis according to shanghanlun six meridian patterns diagnostic system.

Purpose: This study was conducted to survey knowledge, compliance, and quality of life of mothers who have children with atopic dermatitis, and to determine whether above mentioned factors influence each other. Methods: The participants in this study were 165 mothers of children with atopic dermatitis recruited from one out-patient clinic in a hospital in Seoul. The data were collected between March 8, and April 16, 2010 using a structured questionnaire. Results: The mean score for participants' knowledge was 4.17/5, for compliance, 4.27/5 and for quality of life, 3.42/5. Among the five domains of quality of life, emotional status had the lowest score (3.20/5). Knowledge was significantly correlated with compliance (r=.215, p<.005). However, quality of life was not correlated with knowledge (r=-.069) and compliance (r=-.077). Conclusion: Accurate knowledge affects compliance of mothers of children with atopic dermatitis. Therefore, to increase the level of compliance, it is necessary to enhance the knowledge of the mothers. Results also suggest that interventions are needed to improve poor quality of life, particularly the emotional condition of mothers of children with atopic dermatitis.

Objective : The purpose of this clinical research was to investigate the effects of Seunggaltang on patients with atopic dermatitis. Methods : Thirteen patients were treated with Seunggaltang and ten patients were treated with placebo for 8 weeks. We observed skin humidity, skin sebum,, transepidermal water loss, skin melanin, skin erythema, total IgE class and number of allergen. And Clinic Index of Atopic Dermatitis(Extent, Intensity, Subjective symptoms, Total score) was used to evaluate the effects of Seunggaltang. Statistical analysis was performed by using paired sample T-test. Statistical significance was achieved if the probability was less than 5%(P<0.05). The result were as follows : 1. Statistically, Seunggaltang didn't showed significant effect on skin humidity, skin sebum, skin transepidermal water loss, skin melanin and skin erythema. 2. Statistically, Seunggaltang showed significant effect on Clinic Index of atopic dermatitis. 3. Statistically, Seunggaltang didn't showed significant effect on total IgE class and number of allergen. 4. Before and after treatment, the results of blood test and urinalysis were normal. Conclusion : We speculate that Seunggaltang has some therapeutic effects in mitigating the symptoms of atopic dermatitis.

Background : Atopic dermatitis is a chronic and recurrent allergy eczema, called as 'Tae-yul'. It is a characteristic dermatitis, diagnosed from baby to adult, that carries severe itching. Objectivd : The aim of this trial is to examine the effect and safety of Medibebe in patients with atopic dermatitis. Methods : We made a comparison between before and after the use this product. Volunteers who satisfied the requirements were enrolled in the study. Degrees of severity of atopic dermatitis were measured by SCORAD index. Results : After 4 weeks' use of Medibebe, SCORAD index showed a decrease of $20.0{\pm}10.2$(95% C.I: 17.1-22.9) compared with when it was not applied, which is a statistically meaningful change(p-value<0.0001). Subjective pruritus and Sleeping loss reported after both 2 and 4 weeks' use of Medibebe decreased in a statistically meaningful way(p-value<0.0001) compared with before the application. but, 2 cases out of all 50 subjects for the clinical trial were excluded on the way. Conclusion : As a result of applying the 4 items of Medibebe(cream, lotion, soap, and body cleanser) to patients with atopic dermatitis and watching the progress, it is concluded and considered that these cleansing and moisturizing products can be used by atopic patients safely and effectively with almost no side-effect.

Background : There are findings indicating that the autonomic nervous system (ANS) is affected negatively in atopic dermatitis (AD). Heart rate variability (HRV) is a tool to examine ANS. But, studies investigation the relationship between AD and HRV is rare. Objective : The aim of this study was to investigate the correlation between atopic dermatitis severity and HRV and to find out the role of ANS in AD. Methods : Retrospective chart review was performed. The Severity Scoring Atopic Dermatitis (SCORAD) index and HRV parameter was investigated and analyzed. Results : There were 55 patients (25males and 30 females) who met the criteria. Objective SCORAD had significant positive correlation with HRT and Subjective SCORAD had significant negative correlation with SDNN, TP and VLF. Intensity item of SCORAD index had negative correlation with most HRV parameters, but TP, LF and LF/HF ratio had significant positive correlation with dryness. Conclusion : This study supports the concept that atopic dermatitis is a stress-responsive disorder and involves autonomic nervous system dysfunction.

Objective : The purpose of this clinical research was to investigate the effects of herbal cosmetics containing Phellinus linteus extracts on patients with atopic dermatitis. Methods : A total of 35 patients who visited Daegu Hanny Oriental Medical Center from November 4th, 2008 to December 28th, 2008 were included in this study. In this study, we observed transepidermal water loss, skin moisture content, modified scorad index of atopic dermatitis and pruritic degree. Statistical analysis was performed by using paired t-test and wilcoxon signed ranks test. Statistical significance was achieved if the probability was less than 5%(p<0.05). Results : Statistically, herbal cosmetics containing Phellinus linteus extracts showed siginificant effect on transepidermal water loss, skin moisture content, modified scorad index of atopic dermatitis and pruritic degree(p<0.05). And satisfaction after using herbal cosmetics was near good. Conclusions : Considering the above results, we have concluded that herbal cosmetics containing Phellinus linteus extracts have the remarkable effects on atopic dermatitis.

Objectives: Natural environment therapy is considered as an option for atopic dermatitis. This study was aimed to examine the beneficial effects of natural environment therapy among patients with atopic dermatitis who have moved in an atopy-free village. Methods: The questionnaire-based survey was conducted from parents of 20 children with atopic dermatitis (12 male and 8 female, median age 8 years, ranging from 6 to 13 years). The questionnaire consisted of 10 questions for the changes of two typical symptoms of pruritus and sleeping difficulty after moving into an atopy-free village. Results: 75.0% and 88.9% of patients have a family history (at least one parent and one of siblings respectively) of allergic disorders. The median staying period of patients was 27.6 months (ranging from 2 to 55 months). The score indicating pruritus was significantly improved from $6.2{\pm}2.8$ into $4.8{\pm}1.8$ (p<0.05), and sleeping difficulty was also improved from $5.7{\pm}2.9$ into $4.3{\pm}2.1$ (p<0.05) too. Conclusions: This study suggests that the natural environmental therapies could be a choice for patients with atopic dermatitis, which should be studied further for their scientific evidence and mechanisms.

Since atopic dermatitis requires continuous care, the role of a patient's parents is important. However, the majority of parents cause even more serious situations by limiting allergy-inducing foods too much, causing an imbalance in nutrition and decline in immunity. Therefore, educating parents systematically and repeatedly via personal computer or smart phone could help to prevent and manage atopic dermatitis. In this study, 126 recipes of 4 seasons were developed for the parents of atophy students by using food with least chemical additives. After developing these recipes, a blog named "Atop" meaning "atophy stop" was made with these recipes and cooking step photos. In this blog, the visitors who used these recipes showed improvement responses of atopic dermatitis management. The results of this study show that further nutrition education programs such as this blog should be developed continuously and an effective evaluation tool must be also developed for the further prevention and management of atopic dermatitis.
