  • This landscape design proposal was presented to a design competition for Gwangjin-gu Community Center and Assembly Hall. The site is located in 227-7 Jayang-dong, Gwangjin-gu, Seoul and is part a block designated as \`Kunkuk University Detailed Planning District\`. The judging criteria for landscape design set by the Gwangjin-gu could be articulated as follows: an identity of Gwangjin-gu, a relationship with surrounding environment, a locale as a community center of Gwangjin-gu, and an environment-friendly design. An identity of Gwangjin-gu was expressed by introducing lends and decks around the building which were transformed from the image of the old Gwangjin Ferry. The concept\` was strengthened by \`Nori-madang\` or Korean version of \`plaza\` which was designed by a motive of \`mungsuk\` or Korean old fashioned straw mat. An ambiguous relationship between the site and the surroundings was set by \`transparent exhibition frame\` which not only bleaks the massive Chungdam-daegyo, an elevated road, and frames it into small parts, but also attracts pedestrians toward the site-the \`park\`. Pedestrians from the adjacent\` Nengdong-ro Walkable Streets\` views the site through the many parts of frames. By introducing diverse resting and dynamic spaces for many kinds of cultural activities the site could function as a locale of the Gwangjin-gu community. The main paving system reflects the environment- friendly design. It was detailed by \`PC-block-deck-paving\` which was elevated from the ground so that rains could be absorbed.

  • Estimating the construction period at the initial stage of the project and determining whether it is appropriate is very important for the developer's decision-making and the success of the construction company's business. Existing researchers have conducted various studies to calculate the appropriate construction period, but there is no study on the influencing factors and methodology for the construction period of beam-column PC apartment building frame construction. The purpose of this study is to calculate the PC member assembly time using the mathematical algorithm of PC member assembly. The results of this study can be used as basic data to calculate the construction date of the standard floor of PC construction.

  • The shearing process for the sheet metal is normally used in the precision elements such as a frame of TFT-LCD or lead frame of IC chips. In these precision elements, the burr formation prevents the system assembly and needs the additional burr removing process. In this study, we have developed the novel ultrasonic deburring system to remove the small burr came from shearing of the sheet metal effectively. The deburring tool is driven by the stepping motor and alumina and SiC particles are used as abrasives. Ultrasonic power and the flowing resistance of the abrasives make ti possible to abrasive the burr.

  • This study deals with the design of snow plow for the special equipment vehicle. The purpose of the study is to develop the snow plow that can install in the special equipment vehicle such as clean up vehicle or dump truck in winter season. To do so, it is designed by 3 sub-assembly - snow shovel, main frame, and hydraulic cylinder and its support. The snow shovel consists of 3 pieces to meet the road profile and to exchange easily the damaged parts. Main frame connects the snow shovel with the hydraulic cylinder and its support and supports the weight of snow. Finally, the hydraulic cylinder and its support move the snow shovel up and down and tilt it. We designed it using 3D commercial CAD software for concurrent engineering design.

  • On purpose to reduce accumulated moisture and to prevent moisture condensation in a light-frame wall, thermal characteristics and moisture behaviors were investigated for four different wall assemblies; a) typical wall, b) addition of vapor retarder between the insulation and the gypsum board, c) addition of air gap for natural ventilation behind the siding, d) composition with b) and c). Each wall was tested under two climate conditions; 1) $20^{\circ}C$, 50% RH (indoor) and $30^{\circ}C$, 85% RH (outdoor), 2) $30^{\circ}C$, 85% RH (indoor) and $20^{\circ}C$, 50% RH (outdoor). The results showed that the typical wall assembly had poor resistance against moisture intrusion from the inside of building. Outdoor and indoor humidity caused the moisture condensations on the inside of the siding and the back surface of the sheathing respectively. The addition of a vapor retarder did not give significant improvement in preventing the moisture intrusion.

  • In this paper we present the linearized equations of motion for a bicycle as a benchmark. The results obtained by pencil-and-paper and two programs are compared. The bicycle model we consider here consists of four rigid bodies, viz. a rear frame, a front frame being the front fork and handlebar assembly, a rear wheel and a front wheel, which are connected by revolute joints. The contact between the knife-edge wheels and the flat level surface is modelled by holonomic constraints in the normal direction and by non-holonomic constraints in the longitudinal and lateral direction. The rider is rigidly attached to the rear frame with hands free from the handlebar. This system has three degrees of freedom, the roll, the steer, and the forward speed. For the benchmark we consider the linearized equations for small perturbations of the upright steady forward motion. The entries of the matrices of these equations form the basis for comparison. Three diffrent kinds of methods to obtain the results are compared : pencil-and-paper, the numeric multibody dynamics program SPACAR, and the symbolic software system Auto Sim. Because the results of the three methods are the same within the machine round-off error, we assume that the results are correct and can be used as a bicycle dynamics benchmark.

  • The purpose of this paper is to present an photoelasticity technique for measuring the displacement and stress distribution in particle assembly subjected to shallow foundation loading. Photoelastic measurement technique was employed to visualize the force transmission of a particle assembly. A model assembly bounded by a steel frame was built by stacking bi-dimensional circular particles made of polycarbonate elastomer. Each particle was coated by a thin photoelastic sheet so that the force transmission represented by bright light stripes can be visualized. In a contacted particle, both magnitude and orientation of principal stress difference can also be measured via the photoelasticity technique. The different distributions of the contact stresses at the initial loading and near the failure were quantitatively compared. The photoelastic patterns and displacement fields observed in the pre-failure state disappears immediately after the buckling of confined force chains.

  • This study was conducted to measure and analyze the noise from a combine head. The combine head, comprised of a cutting knife assembly, pick-up chains, horizontally conveying chains and vertically conveying chains, had an overall sound level of 101 dBA. The sound levels of each component were, respectively, 98.3 dBA for the cutting knife assembly, 88.9 dBA for the pick-up chains, 79.8 dBA for the horizontally conveying chains and 86.3 dBA for the vertically conveying chains, being equivalent to 54.4%, 18.4%, 6.5% and 13.7% of the overall head noise. The main cause of the head noise was considered the impacts that the joint of the cutting knife assembly made with frame when it oscillated. The impact sound was also generated when the chain lug collided with the chain case. To reduce these impact sound, anti-vibration rubbers were installed on the knife assembly joint and the chain cases. It reduced the head noise by 4 dBA but the overall noise level of the combine head was still high. In order to protect the combine operators more effectively from the noise, a safety cab needs to be installed on the combine.

  • A typical three-dimensional finite element model for a fuel assembly is established, which is composed of 16 monolithic U-10Mo fuel plates and Al alloy frame. The distribution and evolution results of temperature, displacement and stresses/strains in all the parts are numerically obtained and analyzed with a self-developed code of FUELTM. The simulation results indicate that (1) the out-of-plane displacements of Al alloy side plates are mainly attributed to the bending deformations; (2) enhanced out-of-plane displacements appear in fuel plates adjacent to the outside Al plates, which results from the occurred bending deformations due to the applied constraints of outside Al plates; (3) an intense interaction of fuel foil with the cladding occurs near the foil edge, which appears more heavily in the fuel plates adjacent to the outside Al plates. The maximum first principal stresses in the fuel foil are similar for all the fuel plates and appear near the fuel foil edge; while, the through-thickness creep strains of fuel foil in the fuel plate near the central region of fuel assembly are larger, and the induced creep damage might weaken the fuel skeleton strength and raise the fuel failure risk.
