In order to create a national myth and be able to control international society, America with her short national history, used popular culture to accomplish these goals. The medium fit this purpose the best was the use of superhero characters based on comics. Born and developed from the 1930s through the 1960s, which could be seen as America's national crisis era, superhero characters were thorough advocates of American justice and was perfect for the role of spreading the legitimacy of American ideology. From the 1970s, superhero characters became part of movies and became even more influential through the Hollywood's massive film industry and the box office success. American ideology in superhero characters symbolically appeared in movie costumes. Starting with Superman and Batman, the very first and typical superhero characters' costumes work as metaphors for realization of American justice. After the 1980s, superheroes were newly developed through a genre called graphic novel and the most representative piece of this genre is Alan Moore's Watchmen. In the Watchmen, which was also turn into a movie in 2009, six changed superhero characters appear ranging from a non-human superhero, villain superhero, superhero with mental disorder and superhero with sexual impotency, the characters were never-seen-before superheroes with different aspects that connote introspection and philosophical ideology. The changed type of heroes and ideology became another form of heroes, and this brought changes to character costumes that were never considered before. The superhero costumes that used to symbolize America now express different types of superhero by borrowing exotic mythical elements, undressing, pastiche and daily life clothes. The superhero characters and their changes in costumes from Watchmen imply American popular culture's introspective tendency. Amongst these changes, we need to raise our critical vision towards popular culture.

In this study, the contexts and values of the movement called 'Science and Citizenship' during the 1930-50s are discussed in relation to the historical development of school science education in Britain and to the current STS movement in school science. A special attention is given to the activities and ideas of a then eminent biologist, Lancelot Hogben(1895-1975) who published a textbook-like science book, called "Science for the Citizen"(1938). From the beginning of the 20th century, there was a growing realization that British education system needed to be changed in order to provide school science teaching to a wider audience with more emphasis on the relevance, industrial and humanistic aspects of science. This was echoed by a lecture series called 'Science and Citizenship' which was reported in the School Science Review, then the only nationwide professional journal for science educators and by a group of professional scientists who had socialist ideas toward society. Hogben was one of the key member of the group and delivered the second lecture of 'Science and Citizenship', titled "Biological Instruction and education for Citizenship". Hogben's main idea, illustrated in this lecture as well as in "Science for the Citizen", was that science education should be a way of teaching citizen for promoting democratic society and to achieve that science need to be taught in more integrated, utilitarian and humanistic manners, for example by showing the usefulness, relevance, historical and democratic aspects of science. In addition, a summary of his own life and activities, the social background and socialist scientists of the time, and comparisons between 'Science and Citizenship' movement and the General Science movement in the UK as well as the progressive science education in the USA, and the STS education movement in 1980s are discussed.

Guided waves have shown a great potential for structural health monitoring (SHM) applications. In contrast to traditional non-destructive testing (NDT) methodologies, a key element of SHM approaches is the high process of automation. The monitoring system should decide autonomously whether the host structure is intact or not. A basic requirement for the realization of such a system is that the sensors are permanently installed on the host structure. Thus, baseline measurements become available that can be used for diagnostic purposes, i.e., damage detection, localization, etc. This paper contributes to guided wave-based inspection in anisotropic materials for SHM purposes. Therefore, computational strategies are described for both, the solution of the complex equations for wave propagation analysis in composite materials based on exact elasticity theory and the popular global matrix method, as well as the underlying equations of two active damage localization algorithms for anisotropic structures. The result of the global matrix method is an angular and frequency dependent wave velocity characteristic that is used subsequently in the localization procedures. Numerical simulations and experimental investigations through time-delay measurements are carried out in order to validate the proposed theoretical model. An exemplary case study including the calculation of dispersion curves and damage localization is conducted on an exemplary unidirectional composite structure where the ultrasonic signals processed in the localization step are simulated with the spectral element method. The proposed study demonstrates the capabilities of the proposed algorithms for accurate damage localization in anisotropic structures.
Yoo Youngkuk started his career as an artist when he entered Bunkagakuin of Tokyo in 1935 he actively participated in the Japanese art scene as a young Korean artist until 1943. In his earliest works, Rhapsody and Work B, Surrealist and abstract influences are manifested as these were prevalent in Japan at the time. With the exception of Rhapsody and Work B, all works available that were executed between 1937 and 1940 are abstract, which points to the fact that Yoo intended abstraction from the beginning. Surviving works in relief suggest his early style was founded on the abstractions similar to Russian Avant-Garde, Neo-plasticism and Bauhaus simplicity. His early abstractions were not the ideational images derived in the process of the abstraction of the representational image, but they arose from the constructive attitude in composing the already stylized non-representational geometries. It is worth noting that his early emphasis was on the pure and absolute geometric abstraction, rather than the images motivated from the figurative representation. Yoo differentiates himself from Kim Whan Ki in the following aspects: one, he eliminated the subject matter i.e. human figures and the nature; two, he maintained the constructivist attitude in creating a strict and absolute abstraction; three, he experimented with different styles without combining them. He manifests direct influences from the prevalent Western art influences, such as Futurism and Russian Avant-Garde, unlike Kim who vaguely references. In both paintings and reliefs, Yoo's attempt in the realization of the pictorial depth and space seems cerebral and conceptualized compared with the other artists of the time who resolved abstraction via the constructive dimension. Uemura, a contemporary critic to the geometric abstractions in Japan, disapproves the stylistic bent in the adaptation of the abstract painting without the comprehension of its spiritual movement. A lot of educators claim that the open education should be performed in elementary classroom, but it is true that they do not suggest the specific direction of practicing open education in case of mathematics subject. Although a project lesson is recommended, there is little case that suggests the direction of practice and the evaluation method of project lesson. Therefore this study searchs for the possibility of practicing open education in elementary mathematics classroom by reviewing the portfolio assessment and suggesting the specific case of applying the portfolio assessment to project lesson. A portfolio is a folder in which is recording solution process, student's self reflection, and teacher's comment, about topics and problems more than one. Students can see their own varying aspects and recognize their own merits and demerits, sincerities, and potentialities by portfolio assessment. Futheremore, teacher can both grasp the student's cognitive situation and give them the professional advice about the cognitive development. That is, they can perform the instruction underlining the learner's ability and personality, by identifying what Vygotsky calls 'the proximal zone of development' through portfolio assessment. Consequently, portfolio assessment is an alternative evaluation method for integrating process and product of learning, and can be used as an important tool for developing the learner's potential possibility of self-realization.

The garden has long served as away of thinking about nature and about culture and how each influences the other (Francis and Hester, 1990). This study, viewing the garden as a representation of the ideal, tried to seek for detailed aspects of the aforementioned ideal with the representative examples of Thomas Jefferson's gardens. Hidden behind his best known position as a politician was his other career: designer and creator of several gardens. Monticello, Academical Village, and Poplar Forest represented not only his ideals of national values like freedom, democracy and agrarian society, but also a yearning for the rural area and ideals for higher education realization. His personal desire and ideal are represented inside the spatial order, together with his ideals as a politician and the pioneer of new country. By representing the symbolic meaning metaphorically and restructuring it through a spatial scheme, Jefferson's ideal was admired and shared with visitors. In this way, Jefferson's gardens were practical stages to reveal his ideals.
Lil Miquela, who appeared on social media in 2016, is one of the most popular virtual influencers. In particular, Miquela is having a great impact on society by continuing to collaborate with many fashion brands through Instagram. As the activity of virtual influencers is emerging today, this study aims to derive the meanings of contemporary fashion through analyzing Miquela's social media case. This study analyzed Miquela's Instagram posts as research subjects. As a result of the above analysis, it was possible to classify the methods and devices for expressing fashion in Miquela's social media into three categories: storytelling, reality, and tags & hyperlinks. In addition, the meanings of fashion could be derived from three aspects: the object of experience, the direction of technology, and the realization of the spirit of the times. After appearing on social media, Miquela, who has gradually expanded her domain, is a virtual fashion influencer who has built her identity through fashion, and is expected to give new meaning to fashion in the future.
With the fast improvement of software and hardware technology of Virtual Reality, VR(Virtual Reality) film get attention for the new possibility of future film. Already, the production of virtual reality film festivals and Hollywood films is highly active, but it is still poorly related to virtual reality films in Korea. Due to this, this research analyze VR film with Realism films and Post-modernism films in four aspects that are film's frame(Mise-en-$Sc{\grave{e}}ne$), shot(montage), vew point and interactivity to deduct characteristics of VR film. Moreover, we also deduct an esthetical characteristic of VR films beyond the Realism films and Post-modern Films through analysing various VR films. This can be said as 'Digital Realism' that is come from the viewers' positive interaction and realization of Realism through Virtual Reality technology. There will be a successful development of VR film based on this research that analyse suitable directing method for Virtual Reality environment. At last, this research focused on characteristics of digital realism aspect for HMD based first person view VR animation .
This research aims to suggest a math-based convergence instructional model. The convergence instructional model with emphasis on problem solving ability was developed based on each subject and the STEAM model. Then, the appropriateness and limit of the classroom model were investigated, through examining the aspects of its realization in each stage of the class instruction model while enacting a four part lesson on 6th graders. As a result, each stage of the classroom instruction model influenced in helping the students discover various problem solving skills, critically examine the process of the solving, and attain positive perspectives on the classroom instruction. However, appropriate intervention of the teacher was needed to lead the students to further synthesize the explored issues in mathematics and to expand the scope of their emotional experience. This paper closes with suggestions in implementing math based convergence lessons.
The logistics industry is growing rapidly with China's economic development in recent years. Particularly, the intermodal freight system is becoming the main issue to reduce the logistic costs under the situation that the quantity of cargo transported between Korea and China is continuously increasing. Shift from road transportation to eco-friendly modes such as rail and coastwise shipping is also increasing. The present study suggests technical aspects related to the implementation of intermodal transport system centered on train ferries between two countries with already employed Chinese infrastructure into consideration. Technical assessment of intermodal train ferry system entails not only the vessels but supporting facilities and technologies as well. Port and rail facilities and operating skills for efficient modal shifting, and their standardization is indispensible to the realization of an intermodal train ferry system between the two countries.
