Dielectric properties of KTN(80/20) thin films with pzt buffer layer for tunable microwave devices

  • K(Ta0.80Nb0.20)O3 films with Pb(Zr0.52Ti0.48)O3PZT buffer layer on Pt/Ti/SiO2/Si substrate were fabricated by sol-gel and spin-coating method. Structural and electrical properties were measured with variation of the sintering temperature, and the applicability to microwave materials was investigated. All K(Ta0.80Nb0.20)O3 films showed a cubic crystal structure. Average grain size was about 123~193 nm and average thickness of the K(Ta0.80Nb0.20)O3 films was approximately 366 nm. Through the AFM results, root mean square roughness (Rrms) of all K(Ta0.80Nb0.20)O3 films was around 6 nm. All K(Ta0.80Nb0.20)O3 films showed a tendency to increase dielectric loss as frequency increased. As the sintering temperature increased, tunability with an applied DC voltage indicated a decreasing tendency. Tunability and temperature coefficient of the K(Ta0.80Nb0.20)O3 film sintered at 700 ℃ showed good values of 22.1% at 10 V, -0.594/℃.

  • A novel catalytic synthesis of biscoumarins from 4-hydroxycoumarin and aromatic aldehydes has been developed. The reaction occurs in ethanol in the presence of tetrabutylammonium hexatungstate $[TBA]_2[W_6O_{19}]$ as catalyst to give the corresponding products in high yields. This new approach has short reaction times, clean reaction profiles, and simple experimental and workup procedures. Moreover, the catalyst can be easily recovered by filtration and used at least three times with only slight reduction in its catalytic activity.

  • A simple and efficient synthesis of 2,4,5-trisubstituted imidazoles was achieved via a one-pot three-component cyclocondensation of benzil, aromatic aldehydes, and ammonium acetate in the presence of a catalytic amount of tetrabutylammonium hexatungstate $[TBA]_2[W_6O_{19}]$ as a heterogeneous catalyst under thermal solvent-free conditions. The key features of this methodology are operational simplicity, high yields, short reaction times, and a recyclable catalyst with a very easy work up.

  • Vanadium Pentoxide (V2O5) has been emerged as alternative electrode materials for supercapacitors due to their low cost, natural abundance, and environmental friendliness. Graphene (GR) loaded with V2O5 can exhibit enhanced specific capacitance. In this study, we present three-dimensional (3D) crumpled graphene (CGR) decorated with V2O5. The V2O5-graphene composites were synthesized from a colloidal mixture of graphene oxide (GO) and Ammonium metavanadate (NH4VO3), via aerosol spray drying and post heat treatment process. The average size of composite was ranged from 1.82 to 4.6 ㎛. Morphology of the composite changed from a crumpled paper ball to spherical ball having relatively smooth surface as the content of V2O5 increased in the composites. The electrochemical performance of the V2O5-graphene composites was examined. The V2O5-graphene composite electrode showed the specific capacitance of 312 F/g. In addition, the device possessed acceptable cyclic stability, with 84% after 2000 cycles at 2 A/g. These outstanding properties are expected to make the composites prepared in this study as promising electrode materials for supercapacitor applications.

(1-x)BiNbO4-xCaNb2O6 세라믹스의 마이크파 유전특성 및 적층체 특성 (Microwave Dielectric Properties and Multilayer Characteristics of (1-x)BiNbO4-xCaNb2O6 Ceramics)

  • $(1-x)BiNbO_4-xCaNb_2O_6$ (0${\le}$x${\le}$1.0) 세라믹스의 조성 변화에 따른 마이크로파 유전 특성 및 적층체 특성을 연구하였다.0.25${\le}$x${\le}$0.75의 조성 범위에서 stibotantalate 구조를 갖는 $BiNbO_4$와 columbite 구조를 갖는 $CaNb_2O_6$의 혼합상으로 존재하였으며, 이차상의 형성이나 상전이는 관찰할 수 없었다. $(1-x)BiNbO_4-xCaNb_2O_6$ 세라믹스의 유전상수(K)는 조재상의 유전 특성에 크게 의존하여 Maxwell 관계식으로부터 계산된 유전체 혼합법칙으로 정량화가 가능하였다. $0.5BiNbO_4-0.5CaNb_2O_6$$CuV_2O_6$를 0.8 wt% 첨가하여 1000${\circ}C$에서 3시간 소결한 결과, 유전상수 26, 품질계수(Qf) 43000 GHz 및 공진주파수 온도계수(TCF) -18 ppm/${\circ}C$의 마이크로파 유전특성을 얻을 수 있었다. $0.5BiNbO_4-0.5CaNb_2O_6$ 그린쉬트(green sheet)를 850∼900${\circ}C$에서 20분간 소결하여 얻은 적층체의 X-Y 수축율 편차와 캠버 값은 $BiNbO_4$ 적층체 보다 작게 나타났다.

  • Aluminum-oxide($Al_2O_3$) thin films were deposited by electron cyclotron resonance plasma-enhanced atomic layer deposition at room temperature using trimethylaluminum(TMA) as the Al source and $O_2$ plasma as the oxidant. In order to compare our results with those obtained using the conventional thermal ALD method, $Al_2O_3$ films were also deposited with TMA and $H_2O$ as reactants at $280^{\circ}C$. The chemical composition and microstructure of the as-deposited $Al_2O_3$ films were characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD), X-ray photo-electric spectroscopy(XPS), atomic force microscopy(AFM) and transmission electron microscopy(TEM). Optical properties of the $Al_2O_3$ films were characterized using UV-vis and ellipsometry measurements. Electrical properties were characterized by capacitance-frequency and current-voltage measurements. Using the ECR method, a growth rate of 0.18 nm/cycle was achieved, which is much higher than the growth rate of 0.14 nm/cycle obtained using thermal ALD. Excellent dielectric and insulating properties were demonstrated for both $Al_2O_3$ films.

  • The wafer surface temperature is an important parameter in the etching process which influences the reaction probabilities of incident species, the vapor pressure of etch products, and the re-deposition of reaction products on feature surfaces. In this study, we investigated all of the effects of substrate temperature on the etch rate of $ZrO_2$ thin film and selectivity of $ZrO_2$ thin film over $SiO_2$ thin film in inductively coupled plasma as functions of $Cl_2$ addition in $BCl_3$/Ar plasma, RF power and dc-bias voltage based on the substrate temperature in range of $10^{\circ}C$ to $80^{\circ}C$. The elements on the surface were analyzed by x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS).

Crystallographic and Magnetic Properties of Li0.7Co0.2Ti0.2V0.2Fe1.7O4 Ferrite

  • This study examined the crystallographic and magnetic properties of vanadium-substituted lithium cobalt titanium ferrite, $Li_{0.7}Co_{0.2}Ti_{0.2}V_{0.2}Fe_{1.7}O_4$. Ferrite was synthesized using a conventional ceramic method. The samples annealed below $1040^{\circ}C$ showed X-ray diffraction peaks for spinel and other phases. However, the sample annealed above $1040^{\circ}C$ showed a single spinel phase. The lattice constant of the sample was $8.351\;{\AA}$, which was relatively unaffected by vanadium-substitution. The average grain size after vanadium-substitution was $13.90\;{\mu}m$, as determined by scanning electron microscopy. The M$\ddot{o}$ssbauer spectrum could be fitted to two Zeeman sextets, which is the typical spinel ferrite spectra of $Fe^{3+}$ with A and B sites, and one doublet. From the absorption area ratio of the M$\ddot{o}$ssbauer spectrum, the cation distribution was found to be ($Co_{0.2}V_{0.2}Fe_{0.6})[Li_{0.7}Ti_{0.2}Fe_{1.1}]O_4$. Vibrating sample magnetometry revealed a saturation magnetization and coercivity of 36.9 emu/g and 88.6 Oe, respectively, which were decreased by vanadium-substitution.

Catalytic Reduction of ortho- and meta-Nitroaniline by Nickel Oxide Nanoparticles

  • Nickel oxide (NiO) nanoparticles were synthesized by a reaction of nickel nitrate hexahydrate (Ni(NO3)2·6H2O) and sodium hydroxide (NaOH). The synthesized NiO nanoparticles were examined with X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) spectroscopy. The NiO nanoparticles were used as the catalyst for the reduction of o- and m-nitroaniline to phenylenediamine. The reduction rate of m-nitroaniline was faster than that of o-nitroaniline. The reduction rate for both o- and m-nitroaniline increased as the reaction temperature increased. The rate of reduction for nitroaniline followed a pseudo first-order reaction rate law.

Varistor Properties and Aging Behavior of ZnO-V2O5-MnO2-Co3O4-La2O3 Ceramics Modified with Various Additives (Cr, Nb, Dy, Bi)

  • The effects of additives (Cr, Nb, Dy, and Bi) on microstructure, electrical properties, dielectric characteristics, and aging behavior of $ZnO-V_2O_5-MnO_2-Co_3O_4-La_2O_3$ (ZVMCL) ceramics were systematically investigated. The phase formed in common for all ZVMCL ceramics modified with various additives consisted of ZnO grain as a main phase, and $Zn_3(VO_4)_2$ and $ZnV_2O_4$ as the secondary phases. The sintered density and average grain size were in the range of $5.4-5.54g/cm^3$ and $3.7-5.1{\mu}m$, respectively. The ZVMCL ceramics modified with Cr exhibited the highest breakdown field (6,386 V/cm) and the ZVMCL ceramics modified with Nb exhibited the lowest breakdown field (3,517 V/cm). All additives enhanced the nonlinear coefficient (${\alpha}$), by a small or large margin, in particular, additives such as Bi and Nb noticeably increased the nonlinear coefficient, with ${\alpha}=25.5$ and ${\alpha}=23$, respectively. However, on the whole, all additives did not improve the stability against a DC stress, compared with ZVMCL ceramics.
