PAJU Book City Plan was designed to integrate two concepts of "Publishing Productive City" and "Ecological City" with the goal of "bringing of human being and nature together". This research on the post occupancy evaluation on PAJU Book City has two aims; One is to define how people, mainly working there rather than living, recognize the city and the other is to identify the problems resulted from the first phase of planning process and to suggest feasible solutions at the same time. It would be desirable that the outcome of this research should be used as data sources to improve the second phase of the plan. The evaluation criteria were created by the pre-survey on the basis of previous researches and "Pa Ju publishing city architectural design guide book (1999)". With those criteria, on-site questionnaire was conducted among people who work in PAJU Book City and stratified sampling was used for the proper sampling. The result is as follows; the visual-aesthetic criteria had positive response, which also closely related to a city satisfaction. Considering this result, construction type, circumferential environment of the building and a place of building form were found appropriate. The evaluation on the physical-ecological criteria was relatively low. Respondents were unsatisfied with green space and required better ecological waterway and more roadside tree. As green space was given a lot of weight in satisfaction survey, more green urban areas should be planned in the next phase. The evaluation on the social-behavior criteria got the lowest score. Particularly, the accessibility and convenient facilities were remarkably low. Nonetheless, the self-conceit about PAJU Book City was highly evaluated and played a crucial role in a city satisfaction. In order to achieve the goal, physical beauty, characteristics as a publication city as well as an ecologically sustainable city should be main agenda in the second phase of Paju Book City Plan. Consequently, it is important to strike a balance between the external environment and image media in order that PAJU Book City should be re-born as a culture city.

The Gongju Sanseong Traditional Market, the subject of this study, was formed in the early 1900's, and along with the development of Gongju, it has been constantly changed and expanded up until now. The Sanseong Traditional Market located in Gongju, the Korea's representative historic city, exhibits merits in the aspects as a city based on the symbolic significance of the city where it is located and historical characteristics; however, it also presents some problems as well in consideration of user convenience and accessibility. Thereupon, this study conducted literature review on traditional markets, field research with a field trip, and a survey in order to analyze the spatial characteristics of the market environment and grope for the methods of activation. The conclusion suggested through this is as written below: First, the changes of types regarding spatial use according to the modernization project of traditional markets are essential, so about the spatial use according to the spatial changes, it is needed to distribute it balancedly considering the central space of the market. Second, with the understanding of the spatial types of traditional markets, it is needed to build a plan for alternation in the types of physical space based on that. Third, it is necessary to suggest the methods of integrated spatial use among standing markets and 5-day markets. In particular, through the approaches from the aspects of architectural and urban design and through reasonable spatial planning, a systematic approach considering the convenience of the users and merchants using it as their living space should be prioritized. And lastly, it is needed to reorganize the space according to the physical and non-physical methods in order to figure out the methods of activating traditional markets in agricultural areas and minor cities. With the complex approaches above, we can grope for the methods of activating traditional markets.
For the quality of life and independent living of the disabled, government has provided financial supports for housing renovation and improvement projects for the disabled. However, there is a limited budget which should be properly distributed for a number of disabled families. Therefore, it is important to decide which parts should be improved for housing renovation for the disabled. Financial and administrative supports for the renovation should improve housing conditions in terms of accessibility (barrier free) and should bring the better comfort for the disabled. The purpose of this study was to describe the characteristics of the housing renovation projects, to investigate whether the renovation influence occupants' satisfaction, and to examine which factor such as renovation cost and renovation elements would influence the degree of satisfaction for residents with disabilities. Participants of this study are limited to the recipients of financial supports for housing renovation and refurbishment from City of Seoul and Ministry of Health and Welfare. A total of 153 cases were analyzed using post occupancy survey and the project cost data for the participants' housing were collected. Overall, more cost were used for modification for housing condition than for removal of architectural barriers. Housing type and physical condition of the housing affects cost for renovation more significantly. Overall the improvement cost is positively related to resident's satisfaction using regression analysis. In addition, it is important to meet the residents specific needs for repair, refurbishment, and renovation of housing.
Brand space is one of the important elements of urban cultural space and can stimulate the urban culture as a significant landmark. Thus, it is necessary to develop factors for evaluating the communication with users in brand spaces. In particular, factors for evaluating the psychological, emotional aspects of users is essential. This study is aimed at developing evaluation factors with a space marketing perspective through an user behavioral analysis. As for research method, the emotional responses of users will be examined and analyzed through an eye-tracking device. First, The researcher will visit brand spaces and take photos of them to collect data and analyze the status. Second, we filled out the questionnaire based on analytical framework and selected 20 architectural students for survey. Third, Eye-tracking experiment will be conducted. Forth, Space design marketing evaluation factors will be established based on the results. Final, suggestions for future research based on the analysis results. When the 30 images of premium supermarkets were used for the survey, men were more sensitive to the store design. But women were more sensitive to the quality or store accessibility. Also, the furniture factor was most important for women, and spatial factor was most important for men. When the eye-tracking experiment was done as to the 5 selected brand spaces, both men and women looked at the furniture factor that includes the showcases more than anything else. It shows the same result as the previous survey.

In this study, an automated cable non-destructive testing(NDT) system was developed to monitor the steel cables that are a core component of cable-stayed bridges. The magnetic flux leakage(MFL) method, which is suitable for ferromagnetic continuum structures and has been verified in previous studies, was applied to the cable inspection. A multi-channel MFL sensor head was fabricated using hall sensors and permanent magnets. A wheel-based cable climbing robot was fabricated to improve the accessibility to the cables, and operating software was developed to monitor the MFL-based NDT research and control the climbing robot. Remote data transmission and robot control were realized by applying wireless LAN communication. Finally, the developed element techniques were integrated into an MFL-based cable NDT system, and the field applicability of this system was verified through a field test at Seohae Bridge, which is a typical cable-stayed bridge currently in operation.
To promote environmentally responsible architectural practice, many nations have established their own green building rating system. Among other criteria, recently the indoor environmental quality section has been paid great attention due to Sick Building Syndrome, as this believed to caused by polluted indoor environment. In this context, indoor environmental quality is one of very important sections of each green building rating system and closely related to the very happiness of building users. The goal of this research is to compare and analyze the indoor environmental sections of three green building rating systems, GBCC, LEED v2.1, and BREEAM Office 2005, and find a direction for the improvement of GBCC. First, the three rating systems are analyzed in general to compare the importance of indoor environmental factors in each system. Second, the indoor environmental factors are reclassified within related sub-categories for the comparable analysis. Finally, based upon the comparable analysis, directions for the improvement of GBCC are as follows: 1. GBCC's h4r Environment Section needs to clarify its VOCs criteria based upon types of finish materials. 2. Sound Environment Section's noise control criteria needs to be revised based upon types of building usages and application method. 3. An indoor lighting related section needs to be included in GBCC, as even though light is the one of the most important factors in indoor environment, it has not been included in GBCC yet. 4. The sub-section of Confortable Indoor Environment Section related to the resting space and the universal accessibility are not in accord with the goal of green building rating system. These items need to be dealt within general building codes. 5. The rating evaluation structure and process need to be streamlined.
The research made a study of the spatial characteristics of $m\'{e}diath\'{e}ques$ based on the twelve case studies of the BMVRs constructed with the financial support of the government since 1992 in France. The $m\'{e}diath\'{e}que$ is the community center for local residents to collect information, to have relationship with others and to shape public opinions. Thus it should have easy accessibility, liberal flow plan and the diversity of the newest information. The architectural elements to offer these faculties are summarized as follows. Firstly, the $m\'{e}diath\'{e}que$ as the public facility should have the easy flow plan and the high recognition for visitors. Second, it should be the efficient space for both managers and visitors. thus, it should not need more managers or have the difficulty to move. Third, it should be planed to support the change of the form of information and the needs of the visitors. It, therefore, should have the wide space with no wall and divide the space by movable furnitures. Lastly, it should be the space with the natural light, and it does not need the special artificial lights like museums. It is considered that the planning of the $m\'{e}diath\'{e}que$ should be from the four principles. Additionally, the program of the $M\'{e}diath\'{e}que$ should reflect the each local traits.
This study attempts to deduce the necessity and validity of complexation, and suggests complexation through complexation suitability evaluations as follows. First, the concept and current state of leisure facilities for the elderly and elementary facilities and architectural complexation were investigated through theoretical considerations. Second, the target schools for complexation of 'elementary school-leisure facility for the elderly' were selected. The aspects of facility introduction of an elementary school, teacher support facility, convenience facility for the disabled, safety and security facilities as well as school facility accessibility were investigated on the basis of the data attained from theoretical considerations. Third, the feasibility of complexation of leisure facilities for the elderly was reviewed, based on the investigated data on complexation-targeted elementary school. Regarding school building and support facilities, with a focus on leisure programs for the elderly, the availability and number of rooms, extra numbers of regular classrooms and the room condition were assessed on the basis of the analysis of operational perspective of each facility. The convenience facilities for the disabled were examined by classifying them into interventional facility in consideration of facilities for the elderly, pursuant to the provisions in the convenience promotion assurance act for the disabled, elderly and pregnant women. Safety and security facilities were evaluated in an effort to assess the safety issue of the elderly and children. The result of the evaluation of the 6 elementary schools in Seong-buk county based on the above-mentioned four measurement standards shows that they scored 107~124 points out of the total 155 points, with the average of 118.5 points. This is more than the medium score and shows the possible complexation of the elementary school facilities as the leisure facilities for the elderly, and at the same time it may lead each school to find out the elements conducive to enhancing the complexation as a result of the evaluation. Through the evaluation data, I expect that we contribute to promoting the process of the evaluation of the appropriateness of complexation and the efficient complexation.

This study started by examining 24 newly-built elementary schools in Sejong City with regard to their present conditions of in-between space. After categorizing the space according to its spatial composition, 5 schools were selected and analyzed in relation to the current status and frequency of use of their in-between space. Among the (other schools, the analysis gave the following results: 1) There was much higher usage of the in-between space for rest/play than for learning, which suggested that more rest/play area and apparatus should be provided. 2) Piloti areas were preferred, and a greater number of activities took place in these places than in the adjoining open areas. 3) When the in-between space was combined with a passage (as in the case of E2 and E3), a separation must be provided in order not to interfere with the rest/play activities. 4) In planning the in-between space, priority should be given to activities over landscape purposes. 5) Diverse and easy access to the space must be planned, particularly as the main entrance is not directly connected to the space. Entry at the end of an adjacent building could be a possible solution.

This paper investigates the historical significance of Independence Park in Korean landscape architecture by examining the idea and goal, master plan and scheme, and meaning and limitation of the park The construction was announced in July and began with the Independence Arch in the middle of September, 1896. Dr. Philip Jaisohn (Suh Jai-Pil), Counselor of The Privy Office and president of the Independence newspaper, played an important role in park construction. He formally advised the arrangements and general planning of the park, but he actually played a leading role in the park as much as he designed and superintended the erection of the arch. He had the conception of a productive park for cultivating and experimenting with a variety of trees surrounding the monument. In terms of the history of Korean landscape architecture, Independence Park is important in that it is the first modem city park that was tried independently as part of the modernizing-Seoul project and the only park of which object and scheme were revealed. It also strengthens the roots of Korean modem landscape architecture by pushing Korean history of public parks into the prior time to Japanese colonial period and enriches the contents of Korean modem landscape architecture. Independence Park is the original realization of a public park because it was constructed with participation and donations from the planning stage to the construction and use. In addition, it is the goal and means to inspire the spirit of national independence and patriotism in Korean people and lead them to voluntary awakening, enlightenment, and participation. Independence Park, however, was not constructed according to Dr. Jaisohn's original intent due to the lack of funds and the rudimentary level of landscape construction technology. In addition, the location was too far from downtown and accessibility was very difficult. For these reasons, many do not consider the park as having been constructed. However, this kind of view must be changed. Other parks of the time were not detailed and decorated like typical western parks, but were left as public spaces. In other words, these parks should not be judged by comparing them to western parks. This is the same concept as that of the first parks of modem Korea being called 'park land.' These parks were more natural environments than planned gardens.
