  • The ephemeral and temporal nature of pavilions is the underlying motivation that led to the development of this paper. From the beginning of the industrial era through contemporary history, there have been many instances of architects attempting to rethink architectural design in the context of modern social, cultural, and technical imperatives. Today, the leading changes in humanity are accompanied by a revolutionary electronic digital medium. The pavilion has been in an amalgamation of architectural integration since the beginning of human history. World's Fairs/Expos have, since their establishment, served as international presentations of goods and achievements of particular nations. They became a popular stage wherein potential architectural achievements were showcased through the evocative architecture of pavilions. Due to the pavilion's "temporary nature," its coverage includes various perspectives: social, historical, geographical, post-colonial, iconographical, temporal, and ephemeral. It has also served as a receptacle due to its representational value at a given time. The pavilion has offered architectural designers, clients, and visitors a place to use their imaginations. Moreover, the architect's role in creating pavilions cannot be overestimated. Due to fact that they abound in symbolism, contemporary designs, and innovative solutions, pavilions often mirror modern mankind and plan for the next aesthetic revolutions and ideological architectural theories. To understand and appreciate architects' original intentions with their pavilions, this paper focuses on noteworthy pavilions that were created from the beginning of industrialization through the present. It explores and discusses the pavilion's characteristics, highlights the significance of its physical form as generated by a specific theme.

  • Today the social concern about Interior Design gradually requires wide comprehension. Also according to demanders' requirement. Colleges cope with speed. Interior Design made by experts for the function and purpose in the conception of decoration. Therefore, Colleges are responsible to educate for more capable professional designers. But management is the first concern for Interior Design Company students are going to work at. Interior Design has not the important state yet in Korea, it is hard to manage the company with only design works on the table. As architectural design side must get some admission, design is apart from construction. but they are worked together in Interior Design. Also, as the architectural design with process detail drawings, interior design is required the detail design for construction. But it is the facts that the college is interested in and concentrated on rather education for design and space plan than intensive education for construction because of the restricted environment of practice room. I propose component and practical use of nude construction department to understand detailed design.

  • The aim of this study is to improve quality system through mutual understanding for the opinion gap among interested parties such as owner, designer, constructor and supervisor in construction industry. The survey to the owners, designers, constructors, and supervisors who are in charge of quality of the 183 architectural projects being constructed has been performed for investigating the importance and actual level of quality and quality factors. Questionnaires are based on the quality factors shown in ISO 9001:2000 international quality management system requirements. There are distinct opinion gaps for quality among owner, designer, constructor, and supervisor who working for the same architectural projects.

  • An initial member sections of steel structures is selected by experience of expert building structural designers. And appropriate member section is designed by repeat calculation through structural analysis. Therefore an initial assumption of member section is necessary for saving the time for structural design and is important to acquire safety of building structures. Also brace damper are generally used to prevent or decrease structural damage by its hysteretic behavior in building structures subjected to strong earthquake. Based on plastic design, the initial section of members for architectural steel structures with brace hysteretic dampers is presented and seismic effect of structural behavior by the ratio of damper stiffness to structural story stiffness is estimated in this paper.

  • Utilizing a building model design of the investigation factors and structured questionnaire, the results of an investigation concerning the improvement factors in the construction phase, as perceived by academic staffs including graduate students, designers, contractors and property management teams, are presented. Findings reveal that management commitment dominate improvement factors for building projects, although construction firms frequently mentioned the team work in design firms. Significant improvements in building projects are obtained when college programs include courses that treat the administrative aspects involved in the building project and that continuing education programs cover quality training. Eighteen predominant selection factors are identified, ranked and correlated.

  • As the boundary between fashion and architecture is getting blurred, the interactions of the two fields are turning out abundant as well as essential. This study investigates the tectonic strategies in architectural fashion design as a novel aesthetic in the 21st century by combining literary survey and case analysis on architecture and contemporary fashion. The tectonic strategies in the works of architectural fashion designers were categorized as follows: organic geometry, technological garment construction, and independent space. Organic geometry transforms basic geometric shapes into subtle organic forms after being thrown on the body. Technological garment construction explores the garment structure and volume by applying the structural principle of suspension and fractal geometry. Independent space refers to maintaining the firm three-dimensionality of garment structure which keeps the distance from the body, assuming the similarity to architecture.

  • In case of fire in the high-rise buildings, the appropriate and safe evacuation plans for the building residents are very important to minimize the number of casualties. Since the evacuation time usually depends on the floor plans of the buildings, the evacuation plans should be considered while the architectural design is done. Conventionally, the calculation of the evacuation time in the case of fire breakout is based on the approximate mathematical equations which are prone to error. In this study, the simulator model is developed to help the architectural designers to access the more accurate evacuation time and find out the floor plans which offers the most safe evacuation plans for the residents in case of fire.

  • Semiotics is an external expression for show-ing internal meaning, and the signs express the internal meaning. The architects and the designers are very similar each other in using semiotics for expressing their desires. Histori-cally, the design similarity exists between the architecture and the fashion. In this study, the fashion designs are interpreted by using semiotics of architectural design, especially emphasizing external expression methods for representing internal desires. To express the human body's character-istics, the volume, weight support, structural simplicity, controllability and beauty of fashion were used for the fashion designs, and those characters could be found at the architec-tural patterns. Balenciaga's fashion emphasized the volume, the weigh support, the structural simplicity and the controllability, while Roberto Capucci rejected the approach of using women's body curves, but used the volume and simplicity of natures in addition to Balenciaga's heavy weight design patterns. The control and the modern dedication were used to make the simple patterns by Courreges, and then brought the Modernism to the fashion. Courreges used the cutting characters to func-tional design for expressing the structural sim-plicity.

  • In reinforced concrete design, structural member sizes and amount of reinforcing steel areas are usually selected based on the structural designers' experience. Most existing charts provided for the design of reinforced concrete structural members were developed mainly based on force equilibrium conditions and some serviceability criteria. Sections selected from these charts may not result in an economic solution in terms of material costs as well as construction costs. Practical design aids are developed and suggested in this study for the economical design of reinforced concrete beam under flexural loading. With the beam width fixed, the depth of a beam, positive steel areas and negative steel areas are found from Khun-Tucker necessary conditions with Lagrangian multipliers to minimize the sectional cost of a beam. The developed design aids might be useful in selecting optimum reinforced concrete beam sections. Theoretical derivations and use of the developed design aids are described in this paper.
