The purpose of this study was to measure the volumetric polymerization shrinkage kinetics and stress of a silorane-based dental restorative composite and compare it with those of conventional methacrylate-based dental composites. Two methacrylate-based composites (Z250, Z350 flowable) and one silorane-based composite (P90) were investigated. The volumetric polymerization shrinkage of the composites during light curing was measured using a laboratory-made volume shrinkage measurement instrument based on the Archimedes' principle, and the polymerization stress was also determined with the strain gage method. The shrinkage of silorane-based composites (P90) was the lowest, and that of Z350 flowable was the highest. Peak polymerization shrinkage rate was the lowest in P90 and the highest in Z350 flowable. The time to reach peak shrinkage rate of P90 was longer than those of the methacrylate-based composites. The polymerization shrinkage stress of P90 was lower than those of the methacrylate-based composites.

Recently, the brittle materials such as ceramics, glass, sapphire and textile material have been widely used in semiconductors, aerospace and automobile owing to high functional characteristics. On the other hand, it has the characteristics of difficult-to-cut material relative to all materials. In this study, diamond electro-deposited band-saw machine was developed to operate stably using water-coolant type through relative motion between band-saw tool and $Al_2O_3$ material. High densified $Al_2O_3$ material was manufactured by spark plasma sintering method. The bulk density was observed by the Archimedes law and the theoretical density was estimated to be $3.88g/cm^3$ and its hardness 14.7 MPa. From the dicing sawing test of $Al_2O_3$ specimen, behavior of surface roughness and band-saw wear are dominantly affected by the increase of the band-saw linear velocity. Additionally, an continuous pattern type of diamond band-saw was a very effective due to entry impact as a one-off for brittle material.

The corrosion resistance of submerged entry nozzle (SEN) materials were investigated for high-class steel manufacturing. Composite samples were fabricated by mixing $ZrO_2$, $Al_2O_3$, MgO, mullite, spinel, and carbon. The raw materials were mixed with attrition milling, compacted in a uniaxial pressure of 200MPa and calcined at $1000^{\circ}C$ for 3 h in $N_2$ atmosphere. The bulk density and apparent porosity of the calcined samples were measured by the liquid displacement method in water using Archimedes's principle. The corrosion resistance of the samples were measured by cup test with mold powder at $1550^{\circ}C$ for 2 h. The microstructure and elemental analysis of samples were observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectrum (EDS), and X-ray diffraction pattern (XRD). The XRD result shows that the starting raw materials were crystalline phase. The microstructure of fabricated specimen was investigated before and after corrosion tests at $1000^{\circ}C$ and $1550^{\circ}C$ for 2h. $ZrO_2$-C composite showed good resistance in the slag corrosion test. Among the composite oxide materials, $ZrO_2-Al_2O_3$-C and $ZrO_2$-MgO-C showed better resistance than $ZrO_2$-C in the slag corrosion test. The diameter variation index of $ZrO_2$-C refractory was 16.1 at $1000^{\circ}C$ for 2 h. The diameter variation index of the $ZrO_2-Al_2O_3$-C refractory was larger than that of the $ZrO_2$-C refractory at $1550^{\circ}C$ for 2 h.
The object of this study is to find the optimum conditions for crystal growth and kinds of crystal in ZnO-Al2O3-SiO2 glass composition. At first, the base glass composed of ZnO (44.7%), Al2O3(14.0%) and SiO2(41.3%) was melted in propane gas furnace at 1450-150$0^{\circ}C$ for an hour, and then it was poured into the stainless steel mould heated previously at $600^{\circ}C$ to obtain the thin glass test piece. Four crystal forms from base glass such as stuffed keatite, zinc orthosilicate, zinc aluminosilicate, and cristobalite were crystallized during heat treatment between 80$0^{\circ}C$ and 110$0^{\circ}C$. For the investigation of crystal growth, X-ray diffractometer and thermal differential analysis were used and the growth rate of the four crystal forms were obtained by the method of Archimedes specific gravity and intensity comparison of X-ray diffraction peak. The results obtained were as follows. 1) Stuffed keatite peaks which started to appear after two hours at 80$0^{\circ}C$ were maximum after 11 hours and this crystal breaks down to willemite irreversibly at about 100$0^{\circ}C$. 2) Development of gahnite started at 85$0^{\circ}C$ and increased with temperature growth. 3) Stuffed keatite which had been transformed slowly into willemite at 100$0^{\circ}C$ was decreased with time and willemite increased until four hours. 4) Cristobalite began to be developed after treatment of 110$0^{\circ}C$.
The $\beta$ phase Ti-Nb-Sn-HA bio materials were successfully fabricated by high energy mechanical milling and pulse current activated sintering (PCAS). Ti-6Al-4V ELI alloy has been widely used as biomaterial. But the Al has been inducing Alzheimer disease and V is classified as toxic element. In this study, ultra fine sized Ti-Nb-Sn-HA powder was produced by high energy mechanical milling machine. The $\beta$ phase Ti-Nb-Sn-HA powders were obtained after 12hr milling from $\alpha$ phase. And ultra fine grain sized Ti-Nb-Sn-HA composites could be fabricated using PCAS without grain growth. After sintering, the microstructures and phase-transformation of Ti-Nb-Sn-HA biomaterials were analyzed by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The relative density was obtained by Archimedes principle and the hardness was measured by Vickers hardness tester. The $\beta$-Ti phase was obtained after 12h milling. As result of hardness and relative density, 12h milled Ti-Nb-Sn-HA composite has the highest values.
The Spark Plasma Sintering(SPS) method offers a means of fabricating a sintered-body having high density without grain growth through short sintering time and a one-step process. A titanium compact having high density and purity was fabricated by the SPS process. It can be used to fabricate a Ti sputtering target with controlled parameters such as sintering temperature, heating rate, and pressure to establish the optimized processing conditions. The compact/target(?) has a diameter of ${\Phi}150{\times}6.35mm$. The density, purity, phase transformation, and microstructure of the Ti compact were analyzed by Archimedes, ICP, XRD and FE-SEM. A Ti thin-film fabricated on a $Si/SiO_2$ substrate by a sputtering device (SRN-100) was analyzed by XRD, TEM, and SIMS. Density and grain size were up to 99% and below $40{\mu}m$, respectively. The specific resistivity of the optimized Ti target was $8.63{\times}10^{-6}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$.
The change in the open porosity of bulk graphite as a function of the uniaxial molding pressure during manufacturing is studied using artificial graphite powder. Subsequently, the graphite is impregnated to determine the effect of the open porosity on the impregnation efficiency and to improve the density of the final bulk graphite. Bulk graphite is manufactured with different uniaxial molding pressures after mixing graphite powder, which is the by-product of processing the final graphite products and phenolic resin. The bulk density and open porosity are measured using the Archimedes method. The bulk density and open porosity of bulk graphite increase as the molding pressure increases. The open porosity of molded bulk graphite is 25.35% at 30 MPa and 29.84% at 300 MPa. It is confirmed that the impregnation efficiency increases when the impregnation process is performed on a specimen with large open porosity. In this study, the bulk density of bulk graphite molded at 300 MPa is 11.06% higher than that before impregnation, which is the highest reported increase. Therefore, it is expected that the higher the uniaxial pressure, the higher the density of bulk graphite.
In this study, the additivity factors of compositions to density and glass transition point ($T_g$) in a $xLi_2O-(1-x)[(1-y)TeO_2-yZnO]$ (0$T_g$ was discussed. As a method for predicting the relation between glass structure and ionic conductivity, density was measured by the Archimedes method. The glass transition point was analyzed to predict the relation between ionic conductivity and the bonding energy between alkali ions and non-bridge oxygen (NBO). The relation equations showing the additivity factor of each composition to the two properties are as follows: Density(g/$cm^3$) = $2.441x_1\;+\;5.559x_2\;+\;4.863x_3\;T_g(^{\circ}C)$ = $319x_1\;+\;247x_2\;+\;609x_3\;-\;1950x_1x_3$ ($x_1$ : fraction of $Li_2O$, $x_2$ : fraction of $TeO_2$, $x_3$ : fraction of ZnO) The density decreased as $Li_2O$ content increased. This was attributed to change of the $TeO_2$ structure. From this structural result, the electric conductivity of the glass samples was predicted following the ionic conduction mechanism. Finally, it is expected that electric conductivity will increase as the activation energy for ion movement decreases.
The primary objective of this study was to determine the relationship between fruit quality characteristics and pithiness fruit occurrence for confirming occurrence factors of pithiness tissues in 'Niitaka' pears ($Pyrus$$pyrifolia$ Nakai). Fruits were harvested 4 times in 1 week intervals from 160 days after full bloom (DAFB) to 181 DAFB. Harvested fruits were separated with the specific gravity by Archimedes laws. Also, with specific gravity level in pear fruit, sugar content, acidity, and texture profile analysis (TPA) were investigated. Final verifiability of pithiness fruit was approved by eye observation at 90 days after storage. Also, in ASS (Alcohol Soluble Solid) and AIS (Alcohol Insoluble Solid), calcium contents were investigated. Although the differences in sugar and organic acid content were not significant in fruits divided by gravity, flesh hardness was depressed in fruits that showed low gravity. These results were more conspicuous in late harvested fruits (at 174 and 181days after full bloom) which showed low gravity, representing less content of AIS content and calcium in ASS and AIS when compared with early harvest fruits. Fruits of lower gravity below 1.0 measured with dipping induced the progression of pithiness symptom up to 76%. Consequently, harvest timing is a more concise factor in pithiness fruit occurrence although those symptom also affected by storage condition. Furthermore, the cause of pithiness fruit occurrence by late harvest is due to the lower cell wall binding calcium.
In this study, H13 tool steel sculptures are built by a metal 3D printing process at various laser scan speeds. The properties of commercial H13 tool steel powders are confirmed for the metal 3D printing process used: powder bed fusion (PBF), which is a selective laser melting (SLM) process. Commercial H13 powder has an excellent flowability of 16.68 s/50 g with a Hausner ratio of 1.25 and a density of $7.68g/cm^3$. The sculptures are built with dimensions of $10{\times}10{\times}10mm^3$ in size using commercial H13 tool steel powder. The density measured by the Archimedes method is $7.64g/cm^3$, similar to the powder density of $7.68g/cm^3$. The hardness is measured by Rockwell hardness equipment 5 times to obtain a mean value of 54.28 HRC. The optimum process conditions in order to build the sculptures are a laser power of 90 W, a layer thickness of $25{\mu}m$, an overlap of 30%, and a laser scan speed of 200 mm/s.
