An experiment and simulation were performed for hydrogen separation of mixtures by PSA (pressure swing adsorption) process on activated carbon. The binary ($H_2/Ar$; 80%/ 20%) and ternary ($H_2/Ar/CH_4$; 60%/ 20%/ 20%) mixtures were used to study the effects of feed composition. The cyclic performances such as purity, recovery, and productivity of 2bed-6step PSA process were experimentally and theoretically compared under non-isothermal and non-adiabatic conditions. The develped process produced the hydrogen with 99% purity and 75% recovery from both processes. Therefore, optimal separation condition was referred multicomponent gas mixtures.

Etch rates up to 120 nm/min for $Ta_{2}O_{5}$ were achieved in both $SF_{6}/Ar$ and $Cl_{2}/Ar$ discharges. The effect of ultraviolet (UV) light illumination during ICP etching on $Ta_{2}O_{5}$ etch rate in those plasma chemistries was examined and UV illumination was found to produce significant enhancements in $Ta_{2}O_{5}$ etch rates most likely due to photoassisted desorption of the etch products. The effects of ion flux, ion energy, and plasma composition on (Ba, Sr)$TiO_3$ etch rate were examined and maximum etch rate ~90 nm/min was achieved in $Cl_{2}/Ar$ ICP discharges while $CH_{4}/H_{2}/Ar$ chemistry produced extremely low etch rates (${\leq}10\;nm/min$) under all conditions.
Foreign proteins, $endo-{\beta}-1,4-glucanase$ of Bacillus subtilis, preS1+S2 region of hepatitis B virus large surface antigen, human ${\beta}_2-adrenergic$ receptor ($h{\beta}_{2}AR$), and bovine growth hormone (bGH) were expressed in Saccharomyces cerevisiae and secreted into the medium. These proteins were expressed using the alcohol dehydrogenase I (ADH1) promoter of Saccharomyces cerevisiae and secreted by signal sequence of the 97 K killer toxin gene of doublestranded linear DNA plasmid (pGKL1) of S. cerevisiae. All these proteins underwent severe modifications; in particular, N-glycosylation in the case of $endo-{\beta}-1,4-glucanase$, $h{\beta}_2AR$, and preS1+S2. Seventy four percent of the expressed $endo-{\beta}-1,4-glucanase$ was secreted into the culture medium. Highly modified proteins were detected in the culture medium and in the cell. Expressed $h{\beta}_2AR$, which has seven transmembrane domains, remained in the cell. The degrees of secretion and modification and the states of proteins in the culture medium and in the cell were quite different. These results indicated that the nature of the protein has a critical role in its secretion and modifications.
We report microbolometer characteristic with n-type and p-type amorphous silicon thin film. The n-type and p-type amorphous silicon thin films were made by PECVD. The electrical properties of n-type and p-type a-Si:H thin films were investigated as a function of doping gas flow rate. The doping gas used $B_2H_6/Ar$ (1:9) and $PH_3/Ar$ (1:9). In general, the conductivity of doping a-Si:H thin films increased as doping gas increase but the conductivity of a-Si:H thin films decreased as the doping gas increase because doping gas concentration increase led to dilution gas (Ar) increase as the same time. We fabricated an amorphous silicon microbolometer using surface micromachining technology. The fabricated microbolometer had a negative TCR of 2.3%. The p-type microbolometer had responsivity of $5{\times}10^4V/W$ and high detectivity of $3{\times}10^8cm(Hz)^{1/2}/W$. The p-type microbolometer had more detectivity than n-type for less noise value.
The effect of two important parameters of a catalytic membrane reactor (CMR), hydrogen selectivity and hydrogen permeance, coupled with an Ar sweep flow and an operating pressure on the performance of a water gas shift reaction in a CMR has been extensively studied using a one-dimensional reactor model and reaction kinetics. As an alternative pre-combustion $CO_2$ capture method, the feasibility of capturing a pressurized and concentrated $CO_2$ in a retentate (a shell side of a CMR) and separating a purified $H_2$ in a permeate (a tube side of a CMR) simultaneously in a CMR was examined and a guideline for a hydrogen permeance, a hydrogen selectivity, an Ar sweep flow rate, and an operating pressure to achieve a simultaneous capture of a concentrate $CO_2$ in a retentate and production of a purified $H_2$ in a permeate is presented. For example, with an operating pressure of 8 atm and Ar sweep gas for rate of $6.7{\times}10^{-4}mols^{-1}$, a concentrated $CO_2$ in a retentate (~90%) and a purified $H_2$ in a permeate (~100%) was simultaneously obtained in a CMR fitted with a membrane with hydrogen permeance of $1{\times}10^{-8}molm^{-2}s^{-1}Pa^{-1}$ and a hydrogen selectivity of 10000.

Block copolymers of the general formula $[(-CO-R'-CO-HN-Ar-NH-CO-R'-CO)_xNH(CH_2)_3-(Me_2SiO)_y(CH_2)_3NH_2]_n$, [n=18.00 to 1175.0] where $R'=CH_2CH(CH_2GeCl_3)$;$CH_2CHGeCl_3CH_2$; and $Ar=-C_6H_4$;$-(o.CH_3C_6H_4)_2$;$-o.CH_3OC_6H_4)_2$;$-(o.CH_3C_6H_4)$ were prepared by a polycondensation reaction of polyamide containing a pendant trichlorogermyl group and terminal acid chloride $Cl(-CO-R'-CO-NH-Ar-NH-CO-R'-CO-)_xCl$ with aminopropyl-terminated polydimethylsiloxane $H_2N(CH_2)_3(Me_2SiO)_y-(CH_2)_3NH_2]$, (PDMS). These polymers were characterized by elemental analysis, $T_g$, FT-IR, $^1H$-NMR, solid state $^{13}C$-NMR, and molecular weight determination. The thermal stability of these copolymers was examined using thermal analysis techniques, such as TGA and DSC. Their molecular weights as determined by laser light scattering technique ranged $5.13{\times}10^5$ to $331{\times}10^5\;g/mol$. These polymers display their $T_g$ in the range of 337 to $393^{\circ}C$ with an average decomposition temperature at $582^{\circ}C$.

The changes in the work $function({\Phi}_w)$ in the MgO protective layers after $plasma(Ar,\;H_2)$ treatment have been studied using ${\Upsilon}-focused$ ion beam $({\Upsilon}-FIB)$ system. The ${\Phi}_w$ was determined as follows: Ar-plasma $treatment({\Phi}_w=4.52eV)$, $H_2-plasma$$treatment({\Phi}_w=5.65eV)$, and non-plasma $treatment({\Phi}_w=4.64eV)$. The results indicated that the H-plasma could not make any effective physical etching due to the small masses of hydrogen atoms and molecules while the hydration of H-plasma could grow some contaminating materials on the surface of MgO.

The reactive ion etching process of GaN using $BCI_3/H_2/Ar$ high density inductively coupled plasma was investigated. Results showed that both of the etch rate and the sidewall verticality significantly increased as the ICP power, bias voltage, and the $BCI_3$ ratio were increased whereas effects of the other variables were minimal. The maximum etch rate of about 175nm/min was obtained at the condition of ICP power 900W, bias voltage 400V, 4mTorr, and 60% $BCI_3$, which resulted in reasonably smooth etched surface. Etch residues were observed in the case of samples etched at the low bias conditions, which were proposed to be as the $GaCI_x$ compounds.
Carbon molecules with closed-cage structures are called fullerenes $(C_{60},\;C_{70})$, whose applications include super-conductors, sensors, catalysts, optical and electronic device, polymer composites, and biological and medical materials. The synthesis of fullerenes has been recently studied with low-pressure benzene/argon/oxygen flames. The formation of fullerene is known as molecular weight growth processes of PAHs (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon). This study presents results of PAHs and fullerene measurements performed in a low-pressure benzene/argon/oxygen normal co-flow laminar diffusion flame. Through the central tube of the burner, benzene vapors carried by argon are injected. The benzene vapors are made in a temperature-controlled bubbler. The burner is located in a chamber, equipped with a sampling system for direct collection of condensable species from the flame, and exhausted to a vacuum pump. Samples of the condensable are analyzed by HPLC (High Performance Liquid Chromatography) to determine the yields of PAHs and fullerene. Also, we computed mole fraction of fullerene and PAHs in a nearly sooting low pressure premixed, one-dimensional benzene/argon/oxygen flame (equivalence ratio ${\Phi}=2.4$, pressure=5.33kPa). The object of computation was to investigate the formation mechanism of fullerenes and PAHs. The computations were performed with CHEMKIN/PREMIX. As a result of this study, fullerenes were synthesized in a low pressure (20torr) $C_6H_6/Ar/O_2$ flames and the highest concentration of fullerene was detected just above the visible surface of a flame.
This study investigated the effect of hydrogen permeance and selectivity, catalyst amount, $H_2O/CO$ ratio in a feed stream, and Ar sweep gas on the performance of a water gas shift reaction in a membrane reactor. It was observed that a minimum hydrogen selectivity of 100 was needed in a membrane reactor to obtain a hydrogen yield higher than the one at equilibrium and the hydrogen yield enhancement gradually decreased as the hydrogen permeance increased. The CO conversion in a membrane reactor initially increased with the catalyst amount and reached a plateau later for a membrane reactor with a low hydrogen permeance while the high CO conversion independent of a catalyst amount was observed for a membrane reactor with a high hydrogen permeance. For the $H_2O/CO$ ratio in a feed stream higher than 1.5, a hydrogen permeance had little effect on the CO conversion in a membrane reactor and it was found that a minimum Ar molar flow rate of $6.7{\times}10^{-6}mol\;s^{-1}$ was needed to achieve the CO conversion higher than the one at equilibrium in a membrane reactor.
