As the process technology scales down, an interconnection has became a major performance constraint for multi-core processors. Recently, in order to mitigate the performance bottleneck of the interconnection for multi-core processors, a 3D integration technique has drawn quite attention. The 3D integrated multi-core processor has advantage for reducing global wire length, resulting in a performance improvement. However, it causes serious thermal problems due to increased power density. For this reason, to design efficient 3D multi-core processors, thermal-aware design techniques should be considered. In this paper, we analyze the temperature on the 3D multi-core processors in function unit level through various experiments. We also present temperature characteristics by varying application features, cooling characteristics, and frequency levels on 3D multi-core processors. According to our experimental results, following two rules should be obeyed for thermal-aware 3D processor design. First, to optimize the thermal profile of cores, the core with higher cooling efficiency should be clocked at a higher frequency. Second, to lower the temperature of cores, a workload with higher thermal impact should be assigned to the core with higher cooling efficiency.
[ $^{18}F$ ]-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) uptake on positron emission tomography (PET) scan has been found to reflect tumor aggressiveness and prognosis in various types of cancer. In this study, the gene expression profiles of glial tumors were evaluated to determine whether glial tumors with high $^{18}F$-FDG uptake have more aggressive biological potential than with low uptake. Surgical specimens were obtained from the 12 patients with glial tumors (4 males and 8 females, age range 42-68 years). The tumor samples were divided into two groups based on the $^{18}F$-FDG uptake PET scan findings: high $^{18}F$-FDG uptake (n=4) and low $^{18}F$-FDG uptake (n=8). The pathological tumor grade was closely correlated with the $^{18}F$-FDG uptake pattern: Glial tumors with high $^{18}F$-FDG uptake were pathologically Edmondson-Steiner grade III, while those with low uptake were grade II. The total RNA was extracted from the frozen tissues of all glial tumors (n=12), and adjacent non-cancerous tissue (n=3). The gene expression profiles were evaluated using cDNA microarray. The glial tumors with high $^{18}F$-FDG uptake showed increase expression of 15 genes compared to those with low uptake (P<0.005). Nine genes were down-regulated. Gene expression is closely related to cell survival, cell-to-cell adhesion or cell spreading; therefore, glial tumors with high $^{18}F$-FDG uptake appear to have more aggressive biological properties than those with low uptake.

Current driving capability of MCT (MOS Controlled Thyristor) is determined by turn-off capability of conducting current, that is off-FET performance of MCT. On the other hand, having a good turn-on characteristics, including high peak anode current ($I_{peak}$) and rate of change of current (di/dt), is essential for pulsed power system which is one of major application field of MCTs. To satisfy above two requirements, careful control of on/off-FET performance is required. However, triple diffusion and several oxidation processes change surface doping profile and make it hard to control threshold voltage ($V_{th}$) of on/off-FET. In this paper, we have demonstrated the effect of $V_{th}$ adjustment ion implantation on the performance of MCT. The fabricated MCTs (active area = $0.465mm^2$) show forward voltage drop ($V_F$) of 1.25 V at $100A/cm^2$ and Ipeak of 290 A and di/dt of $5.8kA/{\mu}s$ at $V_A=800V$. While these characteristics are unaltered by $V_{th}$ adjustment ion implantation, the turn-off gate voltage is reduced from -3.5 V to -1.6 V for conducting current of $100A/cm^2$ when the $V_{th}$ adjustment ion implantation is carried out. This demonstrates that the current driving capability is enhanced without degradation of forward conduction and turn-on switching characteristics.
The dredging project became more important with the recent construction of off shore structures and reclamation projects. Accordingly, more exact quantitative estimation of the dredged amount should be required. The sub-sea ground information can be obtained generally by the boring investigation and the dredged amount can be estimated based on the depth or the deeper bound of a ceratin layer via 3D visualization program. During the estimation process, the input DB should be constructed with 1D elevation information from boring investigation for the spatially approximated distribution of a deeper bound of each ground layer. The input DB can be varied with the application of the borings and the approximation targets. Therefore, the 3D visualized ground profile and dredged amounts are compared on the actively dredged sites, vicinity of Saemangeum area and outer port area in Gunsan with regard to the input DB construction methods. Conclusively, the input DB based on the spatially approximated depths show higher precision results and more reasonable 3D visualized ground profiles.
Purpose : In an attempt to further improve the radiofrequency (RF) magnetic ($B_1$) field strength in temporomandibular joint (TMJ) imaging, a 4-channel spiral-loop coil array with RF circuitry was designed and compared with a 4-channel single-loop coil array in terms of $B_1$ field, RF transmit (${B_1}^+$), signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), and applicability to TMJ imaging in 7T MRI. Materials and Methods: The single- and 4-channel spiral-loop coil arrays were constructed based on the electromagnetic (EM) simulation for the investigation of $B_1$ field. To evaluate the computer simulation results, the $B_1$ field and ${B_1}^+$ maps were measured in 7T. Results: In the EM simulation result and MRI study at 7T, the 4-channel spiral-loop coil array found a superior $B_1$ performance and a higher ${B_1}^+$ profile inside the human head as well as a slightly better SNR than the 4-channel single-loop coil array. Conclusion: Although $B_1$ fields are produced under the influence of the dielectric properties of the subject rather than the coil configuration alone at 7T, each RF coil exhibited not only special but also specific characteristics that could make it suited for specific application such as TMJ imaging.

In the case of large combined weapon systems, such as submarines, the application, and verification of methods of setting the reliability, availability, and maintainability (RAM) target values for conventional weapon systems are limited. Submarines are complex weapon systems with the characteristics of the diversity of operation mode summary and mission profiles (OMS/MP) as well as equipment complexity because they are composed of multiple weapon systems, such as sonar systems and armed systems. Therefore, this study analyzed the development cases of existing weapon systems, i.e., the RAM target value-setting cases, and derived the problems and limitations of the cases to present measures to improve the setting and verification of the ram target values of submarines. In addition, submarines operate around the world and have different operating and maintenance conditions. Therefore, a submarine's ram target values should be set and verified centering on the mission essential equipment and mission critical equipment, instead of all components that constitute weapon systems. This study examined a method to verify the required performance RAM target-value setting, considering the characteristics of submarines as well as the physical performance requirements for the systems and equipment of submarines that must be considered when implementing national defense acquisition projects for submarines.

Titanium and its alloys offer attractive properties in a variety of applications. These are widely used for the field of biomedical implants because of its good biocompatibility and high corrosion resistance. Titanium anodizing is often used in the metal finishing of products, especially those can be used in the medical devices with dense oxide surface. Based on SAE/AMS (Society of Automotive Engineers/Aerospace Material Specification) 2488D, it has the specification for industrial titanium anodizing that have three different types of titanium anodization as following: Type I is used as a coating for elevated temperature forming; Type II is used as an anti-galling coating without additional lubrication or as a pre-treatment for improving adherence of film lubricants; Type III is used as a treatment to produce a spectrum of surface colours on titanium. In this study, we have focused on Type II anodization for the medical (dental and orthopedic) application, the anodized surface was modified with gray color under alkaline electrolyte. The surface characteristics were analyzed with Focused Ion Beam (FIB), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), surface roughness, Vickers hardness, three point bending test, biocompatibility, and corrosion (potentiodynamic) test. The Ti-6Al-4V alloy was used for specimen, the anodizing procedure was conducted in alkaline solution (NaOH based, pH>13). Applied voltage was range between 20 V to 40 V until the ampere to be zero. As results, the surface characteristics of anodic oxide layer were analyzed with SEM, the dissecting layer was fabricated with FIB method prior to analyze surface. The surface roughness was measured by arithmetic mean deviation of the roughness profile (Ra). The Vickers hardness was obtained with Vickers hardness tester, indentation was repeated for 5 times on each sample, and the three point bending property was verified by yield load values. In order to determine the corrosion resistance for the corrosion rate, the potentiodynamic test was performed for each specimen. The biological safety assessment was analyzed by cytotoxic and pyrogen test. Through FIB feature of anodic surfaces, the thickness of oxide layer was 1.1 um. The surface roughness, Vickers hardness, bending yield, and corrosion resistance of the anodized specimen were shown higher value than those of non-treated specimen. Also we could verify that there was no significant issues from cytotoxicity and pyrogen test.

The risk assessment is the qualitative or quantitative evaluation of the risk posed to human health and the environment by the actual or potential presence or release of hazardous substances, pollutants or contaminants. The environmental impact assessment (EIA) is assessed by the environmental criteria, and risk assessment is assessed by the risk rate. Risk rate based on dose-response values may not be easy to apply on regulatory basis like EIA for uncertainty. Internationally there is an example of OECD program. Risk assessment of High Production Volume (HPV) Chemicals has started since the OECD Program with the 1990 Council Act on the Co-operative Investigation and Risk Reduction of Existing Chemicals. These HPV chemicals include all chemicals produced or imported at levels greater than 1,000 tonnes per year in at least one Member country or in the European Union region. The SIDS called the Screening Information Data Set is regarded as the minimum information needed to assess an HPV chemical to determine whether any further work should be carried out or not. All the data elements of SIDS including assessment for environment and health are prepared as three formats of the full SIDS Dossier, the SIDS Initial Assessment Report (SIAR), and the SIDS Initial Assessment Profile (SIAP) of an HPV chemical. In 1998 the global chemical industry through the International Council of Chemical Associations (ICCA) has joined to work with OECD. The OECD has assessed approximately 1,000 chemicals from 1991 through 2004 with ICCA. Till the February of 2005, 592 chemicals of those chemicals completed SIDS reports. Member countries have been targeted the goal of 1,000 new chemicals from 2005 to 2010 and Korea shared 36 chemicals from the 1,000 new chemicals. Currently Korea has completed SIDS reports of 7 chemicals among sponsored 24 chemicals. In conclusion SIDS project will be linked to national program for outputs application with more reliable production. Both the OECD and industry will carry out their commitment to complete assessments for more and the remaining chemicals assessment. The major outputs will contribute to cope with international chemical management.

In this study, a new method to estimate the bridge deflection is developed by using Wireless Tilt Sensor. Most of evaluations of structural integrity, it is very important to measure the geometric profile, which is a major factor representing the global behavior of civil structure, especially bridges. In the past, Because of the lack of appropriate methods to measure the deflection curve of bridges on site, the measurement of deflection had been done restrictly within just a few discrete points along the bridge. Also the measurement point could be limited to locations installed with displacement transducers. So, in this study, the deflection of the structure was measured by wireless tilt sensor instead of LVDT(Linear Variable Differential Transformer). Angle change of tilt sensor shows structural behavior by the change of the resistor values which is presented to voltage. Moreover, the maximum deflection was calculated by changing the deflection angle which was calculated as V(measured voltage) ${\times}$F(factor) to deflection. The experimental tests were carried out to verify the developed deflection estimation techniques. Because the base of tilt measuring is the gravity, uniform measurement is possible independent of a measuring point. Also, measuring values were showed very high accuracy.
This study was investigated for the purpose of obtaining basic data for application to the canning process of salt-fermented anchovy Engraulis japonica fillet using tomato paste. The salt fermented anchovy fillet was prepared by fermenting anchovy fillet with salt 15% at $5^{\circ}C$ for 15 days and then cold air drying the salt-fermented anchovy fillet for 1 h at $16{\pm}1^{\circ}C$. The dried salt-fermented anchovy fillet 85 g was filled with 60 g of tomato paste sauce (tomato paste 42%, gum guar 1.0%, salt 2.0%, starch syrup 2.0%, cooking wine 1%, water 52%) and seamed by vacuum seamer in 301-3 can, then sterilized at Fo 9 and 11 min in a steam system retort at $121^{\circ}C$, respectively. The factors such as chemical composition, pH, total volatile basic nitrogen (TVB-N), amino-N, color value (L, a, b), texture profile, thiobarbituric acid (TBA) value, sensory evaluation and viable bacterial count of the canned salt-fermented anchovy fillet were measured. Texture value of the product sterilized at Fo 11 min was higher than at Fo 9 min condition. In both sterilized cans, the viable bacterial counts were not detected. There was no remarkable difference in physicochemical between sterilization conditions. As a result of sensory evaluation, most sensory evaluation inspector judged that it was difficult to distinguish the sensory difference of both products sterilized at Fo 9 min and at 11 min. The results showed that sterilization of Fo 9 min was more desirable than that of Fo 11 min to prepare canned salt-fermented anchovy fillet using tomato paste sauce, because this condition is more economical.
