  • We investigated an anti-aliasing (AA) filter for digital camera photography by which the excessively high-frequency components of the image signal are suppressed to avoid the aliasing effect. Our optomechanical AA filter was implemented by applying rapid relative motions to the imaging sensor. By the engineered motion blur of the mechanical dithers, the effective point-spread function (PSF) of the imaging system could be tailored to reject the unwanted high-frequency components of the image. For optimal operations, we developed a spiral filter motion protocol that could produce a Gaussian-like PSF. We experimentally demonstrated that our AA filter provides an improved filtering characteristic with a better compromise of the rejection performance and the signal loss. We also found that the pass band characteristic can be enhanced further by a color-differential acquisition mode. Our filter scheme provides a useful method of digital photography for low-error image measurements as well as for ordinary photographic applications where annoying $moir{\acute{e}}$ patterns must be suppressed efficiently.

  • Digital decimation filters are used in various digital signal processing systems using ADCs, including digital communication systems and sensor network systems. When the sampling rate of digital data is reduced, aliasing occurs. So, an anti-aliasing filter is necessary to suppress aliasing before down-sampling the data. Since the anti-aliasing filter has to have a sharp transition band between the passband and the stopband, the order of the filter is very high. However, as the order of the filter increases, the complexity and area of the filter increase, and more power is consumed. Therefore, in this paper, we propose two types of decimation filters, focusing on reducing the area of the hardware. In both cases, the complexity of the circuit is reduced by applying the required down-sampling rate in two times instead of at once. In addition, CIC decimation filters without a multiplier are used as the decimation filter of the first stage. The second stage is implemented using a CIC filter and a down sampler with an anti-aliasing filter, respectively. It is designed with Verilog-HDL and its function and implementation are validated using ModelSim and Quartus, respectively.

  • Frequency domain analysis is a fundamental procedure for understanding the characteristics of visual data. Several studies have been conducted with 2D videos, but analysis of stereoscopic 3D videos is rarely carried out. In this paper, we derive the Fourier transform of a simplified 3D video signal and analyze how a 3D video is influenced by disparity and motion in terms of temporal aliasing. It is already known that object motion affects temporal frequency characteristics of a time-varying image sequence. In our analysis, we show that a 3D video is influenced not only by motion but also by disparity. Based on this conclusion, we present a temporal anti-aliasing filter for a 3D video. Since the human process of depth perception mainly determines the quality of a reproduced 3D image, 2D image processing techniques are not directly applicable to 3D images. The analysis presented in this paper will be useful for reducing undesirable visual artifacts in 3D video as well as for assisting the development of relevant technologies.

  • Because Filters do both the sampling or Sampled-and-Hold(S/H) operations, it result in the replication of the spectrum of input signal and (unless Nyquist's criterion is satisfied) induce aliasing distortion. In this paper, therefore, we designed AAF(Analog Anti-aliasing Filers) so as to remove high-frequency components from input signal for aliasing distortion prevention before input signal had been processed frequency seletion by filters. and then, researched characteristics of it.

  • Image resizing (or scaling) is one of the most essential issues for the success of visual service because image data has to be adapted to the variety of display features. For 2D imaging, the image scaling is generally accomplished by 2D image re-sampling (i.e., up-/down-sampling). However, when it comes to stereoscopic 3D images, 2D re-sampling methods are inadequate because additional consideration on the third dimension of depth is not incorporated. Practically, stereoscopic 3D image scaling is process with left/right images, not stereoscopic 3D image itself, because the left/right Images are only tangible data. In this paper, we analyze stereoscopic 3D image scaling from two aspects: geometrical deformation and frequency-domain aliasing. A number of 3D displays are available in the market and they have various screen dimensions. As we have more varieties of the displays, efficient stereoscopic 3D image scaling is becoming more emphasized. We present the recommendations for the 3D scaling from the geometric analysis and propose a disparity-adaptive filter for anti-aliasing which could occur during the image scaling process.

  • In the study, the design method of reconstruction filter is studied for synchronized sampling which is necessary for order tracking in rotating machinery. The original data sampled at constant intervals, using fixed anti- aliasing filters, is reconstructed by digital reconstruction filter and is resampled at new sampling times calculated by a suitable shaft angle encoder pulse arrival times in order to synchronize with shaft velocity. In addition to eliminating the tracking synthesizer and filters, this new method has no phase noise due to phase-locked loops.

  • A continuous-time Delta-Sigma ADC has various benefits; it does not require an explicit anti-aliasing filter, and it is able to handle wider-band signals with less power consumption in comparison with a discrete-time Delta-Sigma ADC. However, it inherently needs to sample the signal with a high-speed clock, necessitating a complex decimation filter that operates at high speed in order to convert the modulator output to a low-rate high-resolution digital signals without causing aliasing. This paper proposes a continuous-time Delta-Sigma ADC architecture that employs pulse-width modulation and shows that the proposed architecture lends itself to a simpler implementation of the decimation filter using a lookup table.

  • A new digital method of anti-aliasing is presented and is applied to the development of an electric vehicle controller. A layered processing structure and some finite-bit approximation technique, devised in this paper, are the key attributions to the design and implementation of the anti-aliasing filter. The performance of the implemented preprocessing system is tested with several experimental results.

  • Pyro-shock measurement system in launch vehicle is necessary to validate structural robustness and to prepare environmental qualification criteria for launch vehicle systems. This paper describes design, development and function test of prototype pyro-shock recorder to be employed on KSLV-I in the near future. Due to the limitation of telemetry transmission rate, pyro-shock recorder acquires and stores the shock sensor data with high sampling rate in short period and sends the data to the KSLV-I telemetry system with lower data rate. Signal conditioning in pyro-shock recorder is designed to enhance signal-to-noise ratio through proper placement of anti-aliasing filter.

  • A difference based current transformer (CT) saturation detection algorithm uses the third difference of a secondary current to detect the instants of the beginning/end of saturation. The third difference of a secondary current contains high frequency components when a CT is saturated. Thus, an effect of an anti-aliasing lowpass filter implemented in digital protection relays on the detection algorithm should be studied. This paper describes performance analysis of a lowpass filter on the CT saturation detection algorithm. The cutoff frequency of the lowpass filter is normally set to be half of a sampling frequency. In this Paper, two sampling frequencies of 3,840 (Hz) corresponding to 64 sample/cycle (s/c) and 1,920 (Hz) corresponding to 32 (s/c) are studied; the cutoff frequencies of the lowpass filters are set to be 1,920 (Hz), 960 (Hz) and 960(Hz), 480(Hz), respectively. And the proposed algorithm is verified by experiment. A 2nd order Butterworth filter is designed as a lowpass filter. The test results and experiment results clearly indicate that the saturation detection algorithm successfully detects the instants of the beginning/end of saturation even though a secondary current is filtered by the designed lowpass filters.
