In this paper, we present a new approach to autopilot design for skid-to-turn missiles which may have severe aerodynamic cross-couplings and nonlinearities with angle of attack. The model of missile motion is derived in the maneuver plane and, based on that model, pitch, yaw, and roll autopilot are designed. They are composed of a nonlinear term which compensates for the aerodynamic couplings and nonlinearities and a linear controller driven by the measured outputs of missile accelerations and angular rates. Besides the outputs, further information such as Mach number, dynamic pressure, total angle of attack, and bank angle is required. With the proposed autopilot and simple estimators of bank angle and total angle of attack, it is shown by computer simulations that the induced moments and some aerodynamic nonlinearities are properly compensated and that the performance is superior to that of the conventional ones.

We have studied the viewing angle control of a twist nematic liquid crystal display (TN-LCD). The TN-LCD exhibits a bad image quality along vertical direction, due to characteristics such as low contrast ratio and grey scale inversion. The proposed new TN-LCD has the function of switching between the wide viewing mode and narrow viewing angle mode using two tilted LC layers at both sides of a TN-cell Tilt angles of the two LC layers, $14^{\circ}$ and $60^{\circ}$ were required in both wide viewing angle and narrow viewing angle modes, respectively.

In this paper, a new indoor positioning system based on incident angle measurement of infrared sensor has been suggested. Though there have been various researches on indoor positioning systems using vision sensor or ultrasonic sensor, they have not only advantages, but also disadvantages. In a new positioning system, there are three infrared emitters on fixed known positions. An incident angle sensor measures the angle differences between each two emitters. Mathematical problems to determine the position with angle differences and position information of emitters has been solved. Simulations and experiments have been implemented to show the performance of this new positioning system. The results of simulation were good. Since there existed problems of noise and signal conditioning, the experimented has been implemented in limited area. But the results were acceptable. This new positioning method can be applied to any indoor systems that need absolute position information.

The response surface modeling of the pretilt angle control using ion-beam (IB) alignment on nitrogen doped diamond-like carbon (NDLC) thin film layer is investigated. This modeling is used to analyze the variation of the pretilt angle under various process conditions. IB exposure angle and IB exposure time are considered as input factors. The analysis of variance technique is settled to analyze the statistical significance, and effect plots are also investigated to examine the relationships between the process parameters and the response. The model can allow us to reliably predict the pretilt angle with respect to the varying process conditions.

In this study, the response surface modeling of the pretilt angle control using in-situ photoalignment method with oblique UV exposure .on plastic substrate is investigated. The pretilt angle is the main factor to determine the alignment of the liquid crystal display. The response surface model is used to analyze the variation of the pretilt angle on the various process conditions. Heating temperature and UV exposure time are considered as input factors. The liquid crystal (LC) pretilt angle increased with increasing heating temperature and UV exposure time. The analysis of variance is used to analyze the statistical significance and the effect plots are also investigated to examine the relationship between the process parameters and the response.

Aligning capabilities of nematic liquid crystal(NLC) using an in-situ photo-alignment method with obliquely polarized UV exposure on a polyimide (PI) surface for homeotropic alignment were studied. The high angle for NLC can be measured by obliquely UV exposure of 30°on the PI surface for 10∼20 min. The pretilt angle of NLC generated using the in-situ photo-alignment was higher than that of a conventional photo-alignment method. Finally, we suggest that the control of pretilt angle in NLC with obliquely polarized UV exposure during imidization of the polymer for homeotropic alignment is promising method to generate high pretilt angle.
Low back pain is significant problem in today's society, with lifetime incidence rate reported between 50% and 90%. Many factors associated with LBP are reported. The purpose of this studies were to be evaluated static standing posture aberrations in chronic LBP in comparison with healthy individuals. The samples including 80 subjects recruited to the following two groups:patients and control(normal) Questionnaires were completed by 40 LBP patients and 40 controls at the department of Physical Therapy, Saejong neurosurgical clinic in Taegu city from October 1, 1999 to March 30, 2000. The angle of lumbar lordosis was measured on lateral x-ray films with standing position. In LBP groups. the mean degree of lumbar lordosis, sacral inclination, and lumbosacral joint angle were 29.9 ${\pm}$ 9.3, 34.8 ${\pm}$ 8.2, and 12.7 ${\pm}$ 5.7 respectively. Control groups, the mean degree of lumbar lordosis, sacral inclination and lumbosacral joint angle were 35.3 ${\pm}$ 7.8, 34.9 ${\pm}$ 6.4 and 12.5 ${\pm}$ 4.3 respectively. there were significantly decreaseds in lumbar lordosis in Low back pain group. lumbar lordosis on the working posture had significant differences among groups(sitting position patients 31.4 ${\pm}$ 9.3, standing position patients 29.4 ${\pm}$ 9.3, sitting position control 35.0 ${\pm}$ 6.4, standing position control 35.5 ${\pm}$ 8.8, respectively) (p=0.034). sacral inclination on the working posture had differences among groups(sitting position patients 35.9 ${\pm}$ 8.7.standing position patients 33.6 ${\pm}$ 7.6, sitting position control 33.9 ${\pm}$ 5.9. standing position control 35.6 ${\pm}$ 6.8, respectively). lumbersacral joint angle on the working Posture had differences among groups(sitting position patients 12.0 ${\pm}$ 5.6, standing position patients 13.4 ${\pm}$ 5.9, sitting position control 11.2 ${\pm}$ 3.0. standing position control 13.4$^{\circ}$, respectively).

An effective die-polishing robot system is developed. ATC (Automatic Tool Change), tool posture angle control, and robot program for polishing application are developed and integrated into a robotic system that consists of a robot, pneumatic grinding tool, and grinding abrasives (papers and special films). ATC is specifically designed to exchange whole grinding tool set for complete unmanned operation. A tool posture angle control system is developed for the tools to maintain a specified skew angle rather than right angle on the surface for best finishing results. A PC and the robot controller control ATC and tool posture angle. Also, there have been more considerations on enhancing the performance of the system. Elastic material is inserted between the grinding pad and the holder for better grinding contact. Robot path data are generated automatically from the NC data of previous machining process.

Purpose: To find out the effects that different tomographic angles have on the osteophytic lesion detectability of condyle head by comparison the individualized lateral tomographic image with the various tomographic angled images using SCANORA/sup (R)/. Materials & Methods: This study is performed to simulate osteophytic lesions by a series of dentin chips placed at six locations on condyle head. The control angle is 15° and from this angle. tomographic angle were varied with -10°, +10°, +20°. All the images with each sized dentin chip were scored by three dental radiologists with the use of confidence levels for presence or absence of the lesion, each examiner viewed one of the images twice. A rating scale from 0 to 2 (0, lesion definitely not present; 1. uncertain if lesion is present; 2, lesion definitely present). Responses were assessed by Tukey' s multiple comparison method and kappa value. Results: 1. The lesion size of 0.3 mm could not be detected in all the tomographic angles. As the size of the lesion increased the average value of lesion detectability also increased. 2. In the lesion sizes of 0.7 mm there was statistically significant difference between the 15° control angle and the altered tomographic angles (p<0.05). In 1.0 mm lesion there was no significant difference in the ±10° altered angles (p >0.05). but there was significant difference in the altered angle (p<0.05). In the lesion sizes of 0.3 mm and 2.0 mm there was no significant difference between the 15° control angle and all the altered angles (p >0.05). 3. In the anteromedial. anterosuperior, anterolateral area there was no significant difference between the 15° control angle and the ±10° altered angle (p >0.05), but in the comparison with the +20° altered angle there was significant difference (p<0.05). Conclusion: When imaging the lateral tomography of the temporomandibular joint used by SCANORA/sup (R)/, it can be considered that in the osteophytic lesion size of 2 mm and above, the tomographic angle difference within +20° to the horizontal angle of the condyle. has little effect on the lesion detectability. And in the lesion size of 1 mm, the altered angle within ±10° also has little effect on the lesion detectability.
A trajectory control system plays an important role in controlling motions of marine vehicle when a series of way points or a path is given. In this paper, a sliding mode control (SMC)-based trajectory tracking controller for marine vehicles is presented. A small-sized unmanned ship is considered as a control object. Both speed and heading angle of a ship should be controlled for tracking control. The common point of related researches was to separate ship's speed and heading angle in control methods. In this research, a new control law from a general sliding mode theory that can be applied to MIMO (multi input multi output) system is derived and both speed and heading angle of a ship can be controlled simultaneously. The propulsion force and rudder force are also applied in modeling stage to achieve accurate simulation. Disturbance induced by wind is also tackled in the dynamics considering robustness of the proposed control scheme. In the simulation, we employed a way-point method to generate ship's trajectory and applied the proposed control scheme to ship's trajectory tracking control. Our results confirmed that the tracking error was converged to zero, thus demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed method.
