  • Factors affecting non-proficient analytical ability were compared and evaluated by rating of laboratories and round. Analyst Indices between proficient and non-proficient participants were different. Coefficients of determination($R^2$) for standard of toluene, xylene and trichloroethylene of the 4th round between some proficient and non-proficient participants were significantly different(p<0.05). But, there was no difference in the 5th round. Average desorption efficiency of non-proficient participants was 88%-98%, which was lower than 96%-100% of some randomly selected proficient participants. Also non-proficient participants have a large variance of desorption efficiency, 11.79-19.69%. In the 5th round, desorption efficiency of metyl iso-butyl ketone(MIBK) reported by all participants was lower than 90% tested by NIOSH and especially low compared to other analytes. Participants evaluated to be non-proficient in the metal part have 85%-100.84% of average recovery, which was larger variance than 98% of some proficient participants. Although it is difficult to find quantitatively factors causing non-proficiency in analytical ability, pretreatement techniques and experience of analyst seems to be more important factors to produce accurate analytical result.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to construct and test a hypothetical model of clinical decision-making ability of nurses based on the Decision Making Process model and the Cognitive Continuum theory. Methods: The data were collected from nurses working at 11 hospitals in Busan, Daejeon, and South Gyeongsang Province from June 30 to August 1, 2017. Finally, the data from 323 nurses were analyzed. Results: The goodness-of-fit of the final model was at a good level ($x^2/df=2.46$, GFI=.87, AGFI=.84, IFI=.90, CFI=.90, SRMR=.07, RMSEA=.07) and 6 out of 10 paths of the model were supported. The clinical decision-making ability was both directly and indirectly affected by task complexity and indirectly affected by experiences, autonomy, and work environment. Specifically, it was strongly directly affected by analytical competency but was insignificantly affected by intuitive competency. These variables accounted for 66.0% of clinical decision-making ability. Conclusion: The nurses' clinical decision-making ability can be improved by improving their analytical competency. Therefore, it is necessary to organize nursing work, create a supportive work environment, and develop and implement various education programs.

  • Proficiency test is an essential tool far ensuring analytical ability of analytical chemists and analytical institutes. Usually, the standard protocol for proficiency test is focused on acceptability of reported analytical results of participants by calculating z-scores and related diagnostic parameters. The ultimate goal of this process is to reveal the sources of variability of analytical results and to find the way to reduce their influence. In this study, the method of analysis of variance (ANOVA) was applied to the analytical data collected from qualify control departments of pharmaceutical companies in KyungIn province in Korea in the year of 2000. As influencing factors of variability of analytical results, the use of internal standards for liquid and gas chromatograpy, the educational and professional background of participants, geological locations and yearly production sizes of participating companies were evaluated. To evaluate the variability in accuracy of analytical results, absolute differences from sample mean and sample median were used and to evaluate variability in precision of individual participants, the reported standard deviation of each participant was used. As a result, the use of internal standards in gas chromatographic analysis, participants' academic background and the yearly production sizes of pharmaceutical companies showed statistically significant influence to the accuracy and the precision of the reported analytical results used in this study.

  • On the situation cooperating with business partners on the supply chain, systematic decision making process is a critical issue for them. The two major issues of purchasing strategy such as selecting vendors and managing them are important part of their overall business activities. This study mainly focus on the former issue of the vendor selection. Through the empirical study, analytical hierarchy process (AHP) method was applied to select vendors among supplier vendors based on four selection criteria such as the level of quality, product on management ability, delivery, and price. The results of study showed the main criteria of vender selection was the ability of quality management. The vender selected based on AHP and the current selection method was different, but implicitly projected the dilemma situation between quality and price which occurs in decision making process of real life.

  • Merits, attributes and challenges associated with the application of analytical modeling in electronics and photonics materials science are addressed, based mostly on the author's research during his tenure with Bell Labs, University-of-California, Portland State University, and small business innovative research (SBIR) ERS Co., USA. The emphasis is on practically important, yet often paradoxical, i.e., intuitively non-obvious, material behaviors. It is concluded that when material reliability is crucial, ability to effectively quantify it is imperative, and that analytical modeling is the most suitable, although never straightforward, technique to understand, explain and quantify material behaviors, especially in extreme, extraordinary and paradoxical situations.

  • The adsorption amount of petroleum oil on XAD-4, XAD-7 and replacement adsorbents as rice bran, rice straw and sawdust were studied by using batch method measured in the optimum adsorption condition. The adsorption capacity of rice bran and rice straw of petroleum oil were excellent as well as adsorption ability about 50% of XAD resins and adsorption capacity of their replacement adsorbents were increased with optimum condition that pyrolysis time was 30 min. at $200^{\circ}C$. Adsorption ability of sawdust was very weak on the 30% MeOH aqueous medium but adsorption ability was range of about 50% of XAD resin's adsorption capacity on the 0.5M NaCl aqueous medium. Adsorption ability of rice bran and rice straw showed the same adsorption capacity even if difference external structure. Therefore, showing that rice bran and rice straw were have to good adsorption ability as replacement adsorbent for XAD resins.

  • Evaluation of drug-excipient compatibility is one of the basic steps in the preformulation of pharmaceutical dosage forms. Some reactive excipients have been known so far which may cause stability problems for drug molecules in pharmaceutical dosage forms. The aim of this study was to evaluate drugexcipient compatibility of gliclazide with some common pharmaceutical excipients, known for their ability to incorporate in drug-excipient interactions. Binary mixtures were prepared using lactose, magnesium stearate, polyvinylpyrrolidone, sodium starch glycolate, polyethylene glycol 2000 and dicalcium phosphate. Based on the results; gliclazide was incompatible with all tested excipients; but not with dicalcium phosphate. DSC (Differential Scanning Calorimetry) results were in accordance with HPLC (High Pressure liquid chromatography) data and were more predictive than FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy). Drug and reactive excipients incompatibility was fully discussed and documented. It is advisable to avoid incompatible excipients or carefully monitor the drug stability when incorporating such excipients in final formulation designs.
