Classification of the Analytic Hierarchy Process Approaches by Application Circumstances

  • This paper studies six different AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) approaches and suggests that the features of the approaches are classified by application circumstances in order to contribute to the applicability and quality usage of the AHP. Our study investigates the hierarchical principles and characteristics of the AHP, and historical debates on the AHP evaluation in which the six approaches have been involved. One of six approaches is an ANP (Analytic Network Process) application that is directly connected to AHP usage. The application differences among the six approaches are validated with a plain example. Then, the four circumstances of AHP applications are classified by two dimensions: the first dimension is whether or not the importance (weights) of criteria is independent of restrictively setting alternatives, and the second dimension is whether or not preference (priorities) of alternatives is independent of adding alternative(s) to or removing alternative(s) from the considering set of alternatives. Then featuring way of weighting criteria is classified. We suggest the distinguishing manners and describe the implications of the AHP application. Finally, we discuss rank reversal and multiplicative AHP.

  • Basel II advanced measurement approaches for operational risk need to estimate the frequency and severity distribution of operational losses. Due to lack of internal loss data, the estimation is impossible in many cases and so external loss data might be used by scaling on asset or gross income. To get around lack of loss data, scenario analysis combined with loss distribution approach can be useful in calculating the capital charge of operational risk. However, scenario based loss distribution approach requires much time and effort. Instead we may apply the analytic hierarchy process to measure operational risk of financial institutions. The analytic hierarchy process combined with loss distribution approach is to estimate the capital charge of operational risk in other areas based on the operational VaR in an area with sufficient loss data. AHP provides a tool for timely measurement of operational risk in this rapidly changing global environment.

  • This paper describes two contrasting approaches to group decision making involving multiple criteria. A compromise programming method and the analytic hierarchy process are analyzed and compared by using an illustrative example of a computer model selection problem to demonstrate their usefulness as a viable tool for group decision making. This paper further considers some extensions and modifications of there two methods for future study.

  • 우리나라는 2004년부터 지금까지 OECD 국가 가운데 자살사망률 1위이며, 지속적으로 자살자 수와 자살사망률이 증가하고 있다. 효과적인 자살정책을 확인하기 위해 AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Process) 기법을 이용하여 자살예방의 주요 접근방법별 세부정책들의 우선순위를 조사하였다. 설문은 2013년 8월 23일, 26일 두 차례에 걸쳐 총 30명을 대상으로 워크숍 형식으로 실시하였다. 이중 학계는 20명(사회복지사 4명, 정신보건학자 7명, 정신의학자 5명, 임상심리학자 4명), 정책결정자는 5명, 공급자는 5명이였다. 2013년 9월 9일부터 12일까지 4일간 이메일로 사회복지분야와 임상심리분야에서 각각 5명씩 추가하여 총 40명을 대상으로 조사를 하였다. 세부 정책들의 중요도는 '자살시도자 관리,' '공공자살예방서비스 인프라 구축,' '유가족 지원사업,' '위험집단의 위기관리' 등의 정책에서 높은 것으로 나타났다.

Acoustic Signal based Optimal Route Selection Problem: Performance Comparison of Multi-Attribute Decision Making methods

  • Multiple attribute for decision making including user preference will increase the complexity of route selection process. Various approaches have been proposed to solve the optimal route selection problem. In this paper, multi attribute decision making (MADM) algorithms such as Simple Additive Weighting (SAW), Weighted Product Method (WPM), Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method and Total Order Preference by Similarity to the Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) methods have been proposed for acoustic signature based optimal route selection to facilitate user with better quality of service. The traffic density state conditions (very low, low, below medium, medium, above medium, high and very high) on the road segment is the occurrence and mixture weightings of traffic noise signals (Tyre, Engine, Air Turbulence, Exhaust, and Honks etc) is considered as one of the attribute in decision making process. The short-term spectral envelope features of the cumulative acoustic signals are extracted using Mel-Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCC) and Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Classifier (ANFC) is used to model seven traffic density states. Simple point method and AHP has been used for calculation of weights of decision parameters. Numerical results show that WPM, AHP and TOPSIS provide similar performance.

  • It is necessary to evaluate the location suitability of protected horticulture facilities to guide and/or plan new protected horticulture facilities in rural areas.0 this study, as one of methodological approaches for objective and systematic evaluation for location suitability of protected horticulture, the evaluating model for location suitability of protected horticulture was formulated using AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) as the base technique. The evaluation model was made in three different selected regions; suburban, plain, and mountainous. The results showed that there were significant differences in evaluation model of location suitability for':ed horticulture among the three regions.

  • In this paper we present an integrated methodology for strategic planning in telecommunications standardization. Especially this paper focuses on the method of setting priorities for telecommunications SWAs(Standardization Work Areas) and related SWls(Standardization Work Items). To make a strategic plan for telecommunications standardization in which usually includes prioritization, resource allocation, standardization schedule for each SWA is based on prioritization of SWAs. Our methodology integrated various existing methods including the Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP) and a modified Delphi technique. Recently, rapid technology evolution in telecommunications fields increases the necessity of developing more and more new standards. Also increased complexity of those technologies makes standards more complicated, more specified and more thick than the past ones. As a result, the number of SWAs and SWIs are being increased constantly. Furthermore, rapid telecommunication environment changes such as deregulation, liberalization, privatization, regionalization, and globalization surrounding standardization bring about new challenges and opportunities. Due to all these trends, strategic planning for telecommunications standardization grows more and more important. To cope with these challenges and also to make the more efficient use of the limited standardization resources including time, financial, human resources, we suggest more logical and rational approach that will be a backbone of strategic plan for telecommunications standardization. The telecommunications standardization planning process involves a MCDM(Multi-Criteria Decision Making) process. The Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP) is a kind of MCDM approaches. Our method is based on a combination of a modified Delphi technique and an application of AHP(Liberator's spreadsheet model). Analyzed data from Delphi technique is used as inputs to ABP. In addition, we also focus on the technique how to combine group judgments and to handle a large number of comparisons. We present analyzed results including Pilot and Full Scale Survey according to the proposed process. The result of this study will be useful input for telecommunications standardization policy making and practical implementation.

  • Technology-oriented national R&D programs produce intellectual property as their final result. Patents, as typical industrial intellectual property, are therefore considered an important factor when evaluating the outcome of R&D programs. Among the main components of patent evaluation, in particular, the patent right quality is a key component constituting patent value, together with marketability and usability. Current approaches for patent right quality evaluation rely mostly on intrinsic knowledge of patent attorneys, and the recent rapid increase of national R&D patents is making expert-based evaluation costly and time-consuming. Therefore, this study defines a hierarchy of patent right quality and then proposes how to quantify the evaluation process of patent right quality by combining text mining and regression analysis. This study will contribute to understanding of the systemic view of the patent right quality evaluation, as well as be an efficient aid for evaluating patents in R&D program assessment processes.

물류보안 인증을 위한 정부지원 방안 연구 (A Study on Government Support for Logistics Security)

  • 본 연구는 물류보안 인증 획득 기업 및 인증 준비단계에 있는 기업을 위한 정부지원 정책 방안을 도출하고자 기업의 요구사항을 파악하고, 우선순위를 분석하기 위하여 AHP와 QFD 기법을 적용하였다. 분석결과, 물류보안 인증 확산을 위한 기업의 요구사항에 대한 우선순위는 물류보안통합시스템(40.3%), 정부지원체계 강화(32.4%), 인증제도의 운영효과(27.2%) 순위로 분석되었다. AHP 분석 결과를 토대로 QFD 기법을 적용한 상대적 가중치 분석결과에서는 생산성 향상(28.38%), 서비스 수준향상(26.70%), 물류비용 절감(21.60%), 정보기술 선진화(19.68%), 환경보호(3.64%) 등의 순위로 나타났다. 본 연구결과는 물류보안 인증 획득 및 유지관리 개선을 하고자 하는 공급망 내 관련 기업뿐만 아니라 다른 기업들에게 물류보안에 관한 가이드라인을 제공해 줄 수 있으며, 기업경쟁력을 강화시키고 글로벌 시장에서 경쟁우위 기업으로 성장할 수 있는 발전 도모에 활용될 수 있다.

AHP를 이용한 한국벤처기업의 국제화 장애요인에 관한 질적 연구 (A qualitative study for barrier factors of Korean venture firms' internationalization using Analytic Hierarchy Process)

  • 본 연구에서는 국제벤처기업의 국제화에 영향을 미치는 요인들을 체계화하고, 각 요인의 상대적 중요성을 분석하고자 하였다. 또한, 점진적으로 국제화 과정을 거치는 전통적 기업들과 태생적 국제 벤처기업의 장애요인에 대한 우선순위 차이를 파악하고자 하였으며, 이를 통해 태생적 국제 벤처기업에게 경쟁력을 확보할 수 있는 기초정보를 제공하고자 하였다. 연구방법은 우선순위를 분석하기 위하여 AHP(의사결정 계층 분석 방법)으로 실시하였다. 분석 대상은 각 기업의 국제진출 관련 의사결정권자인 임원들을 대상으로 실시하였으며, 태생적 국제벤처기업 15부, 점진적 수출기업 15부로 각각 조사 하였다. 연구 결과, 1차 장애요인으로 환경 관련 장애요인이 국제화의 가장 큰 장애요소로 인식하고 있었으며, 그 다음으로 기업 관련 장애요인, 경영자 관련 장애요인 순으로 중요성을 인식하고 있다는 점을 확인하였다. 2차 장애요인을 살펴본 결과, 기업관련 장애요인 중 전반적으로 마케팅 역량부족이 가장 큰 장애요인으로 인식하였으며, 이는 점진적 국제 벤처기업 및 태생적 국제 벤처기업 모두 동일하게 나타나고 있다. 그러나 점진적 국제 벤처기업의 경우, 사업실행의 지나친 위험성을 장애요인으로 인식하고 있지만, 태생적 벤처기업의 경우 기술정보 및 R&D 역량의 부족을 장애요인으로 인식하고 있다. 본 연구의 결과는 장애요인을 극복함에 있어서 환경적요인과 기업요인의 결합성이 매우 중요하다는 시사점을 제공하고 있으며, 단순히 내부의 마케팅역량을 강화하는 것만이 국제 벤처기업의 장애요소를 해결하는 것은 아니라는 점이다.
