  • Traffic data collected using advanced equipment are highly valuable for traffic planning and efficient road operation. However, there is a problem regarding the reliability of the analysis results due to equipment defects, errors in the data aggregation process, and missing data. Unlike other detectors installed for each vehicle lane, radar detectors can yield different error types because they detect all traffic volume in multilane two-way roads via a single installation external to the roadway. For the traffic data of a radar detector to be representative of reliable data, the error factors of the radar detector must be analyzed. This study presents a field survey of variables that may cause errors in traffic volume collection by targeting the points where radar detectors are installed. Video traffic data are used to determine the errors in traffic measured by a radar detector. This study establishes three types of radar detector traffic errors, i.e., artificial, mechanical, and complex errors. Among these types, it is difficult to determine the cause of the errors due to several complex factors. To solve this problem, this study developed a radar detector traffic volume error analysis model using a multiple linear regression model. The results indicate that the characteristics of the detector, road facilities, geometry, and other traffic environment factors affect errors in traffic volume detection.

  • The paper describes and alternative method based on a new idea to measure the circular movement of machining centers. ISO has employed three testing methods for the acceptance tests of machine tools; the first is a rotating one-dimensional probe method, the second is a two-dimensional probe and a master circular ring, and the third is a kinematic ball bar. The last two methods were proposed and introduced by W. Knapp and J. B. Bryan, respectively. The newly developed method is superior to above two methods; the rotating angle can be detected and the rotating radius is variable. Circular movement errors of machining centers were investigated by the analysis of data measured by R- .THETA. method. Followint observations are obtained 1) The errors which depend on positions, i.e., periodical errors by the pitch of ball screws, errors by compensation of backlash and errors by perpendicularity of X and Y-axis, were analyzed. 2) The errors which depend on NC control system, i.e., errors by the unbalance of position-loop-gaians, errors by velocity-loop-gains and errors by feed speeds, were quantiatively analyzed. 3) The method of extracting error information, which uses moving technique of averaging angle and fourier's analysis data mesured by the R- .THETA. method, was proposed.

  • Purpose: This study was aimed to identify the mediating and moderating effects of safety-specific transformational leadership on the relationship between barrier to and intention of reporting medication errors. Methods: Two hundred thirty seven nurses from seven different hospitals participated in the study. Safety-specific transformational leadership was measured by an instrument with 10 items, barrier to reporting medication errors with 16 items, and intention of reporting medication errors with 3 items. The data was collected from September to October 2012. Descriptive statistics, factor analysis, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient and a hierarchial regression analysis were used. Results: There were significant negative correlations between the subcategories of barrier to reporting medication errors and intention of reporting medication errors (r=-.16~-.27, p<.001), and a positive correlation between the intention and safety-specific transformational leadership (r=.25, p<001). Transformational leadership was a mediator between barrier to and intention of reporting medication errors. Conclusion: Safety-specific transformational leadership mediated the relationships between barrier to and intention of reporting medication errors. Enhancing safety-specific transformational leadership of nursing unit managers is necessary to increase the intention to reporting medication errors.

  • A new method using a transfer function is introduced in the present paper for analyzing the motion errors of hydrostatic bearing tables. The relationship between film reaction force in a single-side hydrostatic pad and the form error of guide rail is derived at various spatial frequencies by finite element analysis, and it is expressed as a transfer function. This transfer function clarifies so called 'the averaging effect of an oil film' quantitively. It is found that the amplitude of film force is reduced as the spatial frequency increases or the relative width of the pocket is reduced. The motion errors of a multi pad type table are estimated using a transfer function, the form errors of a guide rail and the geometric relationship between the pads. The method is named as the Transfer Function Method (TFM). The motion errors calculated by the TFM show good agreement with the motion errors calculated by the Multi Pad Method considering the entire table as an analysis object. From the results, it is confirmed that the proposed TFM is very effective to analyze the motion errors of hydrostatic tables.

Relationship between film reaction force in a single hydrostatic pad and form error of a guide rail is derived at various spacial frequencies by finite element analysis, and it is expressed as a transfer function. This transfer function clarifies so called averaging effect of the oil film quantitively. For example, it is found that the amplitide of the film reaction farce is reduced as the spacial frequency increases or relative width of the pocket is reduced. Motion errors of a multiple pad table is estimated from transfer function, geomatric relationship between each pads and form errors of a guide rail, which is named as Transfer Function Method(TFM). Calculated motion errors by TFM show good agreement with motion errors calculated by Multi Pad Method, which is considered entire table as an analysis object. From the results, it is confirmed that the proposed TFM is very effective to analyze the motion errors of hydrostatic tables.

  • The objective of this study is to determine the concentrations of mixed gases by establishing a diagnosis method of a transformer using tunable-wavelength optical infrared sensors. Absorption of infrared light by methane, acetylene, and ethylene gases injected is measured from the outputs of the infrared sensors. Regression analysis equations of the gas concentrations are acquired from their respective measured absorption. The obtained concentrations are as follows: -3-9 % errors above 600 ppm(methane), 3 % errors above 1200 ppm(acetylene), and 10 % errors above 500 ppm(ethylene). The concentration inference equations obtained using the individual gases are applicable when the absorption wavelength bands do not overlap. The results of the fault analysis of a transformer using the Duval triangle method and the tunable infrared gas sensors are as follows: temperature faults with -1-1% errors and energy faults with -7-7 % errors.

  • An error analysis is very important for a precision machine to estimate its performances. This study proposes a new parallel device, cubic parallel manipulator. Errors of the proposed cubic parallel manipulator include upper and down universal joint errors, due to the directional changes in the forces in the links, and actuation errors. An error analysis is presented based on an error model formed through the relation between the universal joint errors of the cubic parallel manipulator and the end effector accuracy. The analysis shows that the method can be used in predicting the accuracy of other cubic parallel devices.
