The early-phase naval ship design demands requirements synthesis rather than design synthesis, which conducts engineering design for several domains on a detailed level. Requirements synthesis focuses on creating a balanced set of required operational capabilities satisfying user's needs and concept of operations. Requirements are evolved from capability based languages to function based language by statistical exploration and engineering design which are derived in the following order: concept alternative, concept baseline, initial baseline and functional baseline. The early-phase naval ship design process can be divided into three passes: concept definition, concept exploration and concept development. Main activities and outcomes in each pass are shortly presented. Concept definition is the first important step that produces a concept baseline through extensive design space exploration promptly. Design space exploration applies a statistical approach to explore design trends of existing ships and produce feasible design range corresponding to concept alternative. It further helps naval systems engineers and operational researchers by inducing useful responses to user and stakeholders' questions at a sufficient degree of confidence and success in the very early ship design. The focus of this paper is on the flow of design space exploration, and its application to a high-speed patrol craft. The so-called “Quick Game”-models resemble a central element within the Compound Gaming approach of military systems analysis proposed by Huber ［1, 2］. This paper introduces such an analytical model designed to investigate the battle-effectiveness of alternative army structures. The nature of its results is discussed from numerical experiments covering the (German) Army Structure 4, Loser's Area Coverage Defence Concept, and Afheldt's Area Defence Concept. It turns out that Loser's concept promises to have a comparatively high potential to stabilize the early conventional forward defence, hence being an interesting alternative for further analysis in depth.

Objectives : The purpose of this study was to identify problems in defining the concept of care and redefine it broadly, to examine the possibility of community care as an alternative way to change the negative image of care concept. Method : The literature review method was used for the study. Results : First, care is limitedly conceptualized as a concept of physical care and care for children and the elderly. Second, child care is perceived only as a burden, and it is avoided to express care needs in the youth period, and the care of the elderly is putting off responsibility between the public and the private sector. Third, through community care, we should be able to feel happiness in life itself and care needs to be recognized as a way of being throughout our life.

This study investigated students' alternative conceptions of plate boundaries and their conception revision according to the pattern of students' reasoning. Participants were twenty-two 10th grade high school students. All participants were asked to draw the three types of plate boundaries and to explain their drawings. Nine students participated in the reasoning activity. To this end, a semi-structured interview was conducted during which key questions were asked for the students to individually answer. The key questions used in the reasoning activity were created, by utilizing questions used in the previous studies. The findings revealed that the alternative conceptions of plate boundaries were classified into three levels based on established criteria. Students who attempted a variety of reasoning strategies such as causal reasoning, using an analogy, abductive reasoning, data reconstruction and concept combination, revised their alternative conception to a scientific conception after the reasoning activity. On the other hand, some students could not revise their alternative conceptions because they only conducted an incomplete reasoning strategy. The study also found that they were unable to use other reasoning strategies, either.

A process planning system that generates alternative process plans offers multiple process plans for a part, thereby provides the flexibility to cope with the changes in shop floor status. In this paper, we intro- duce the concept of process net as a model for the generation of alternative process plans. We also show the usefulness of process net model in generating alternative process plans by implementing the developed sys- tem to construct process net, and devising an algorithm to generate alternative process plans for rotational parts.

본 연구는 중학교 교과서의 대기압 단원을 학습하였을 때 학생들의 개념유형이 어떻게 변하는지 조사하고, 대체개념을 개선해나갈 수 있는 실험방법을 모색하는데 목적이 있다. 중학교 2학년을 대상으로 ‘대기압’ 에 관한 사전 개념을 질문지와 면담을 통하여 조사하고 두 집단으로 나누어 6차 교육과정의 중학교 2학년 과학교과서 중 8종의 교과서에 나오는 대기압에 관한 실험을 모두 한 집단과 교과서 외의 제안실험을 한 집단으로 구분하여 2주 동안 실시하였다. 두 집단간의 수업방식은 차별화하지 않았고 실험소재만 다르게 하였으며, 기압단원 학습 일주일 후 동일한 질문지를 사용하여 개념변화를 알아보았다. 결론적으로 학생들의 기압에 대한 대체개념이 학습 후에도 쉽게 변화되지 않았지만, 제안실험을 한 집단이 기압에 대한 개념형성이 효과적으로 나타난 점으로 보아 대체개념을 개선시킬 수 있는 다양한 학습방법과 과학적 개념획득을 위한 실험손재가 지속적으로 연구되어져야 할 필요성이 있다.

Purpose: This paper is a report of an analysis of the concept of pro-environmental health behavior. Methods: Rodgers' method of evolutionary concept analysis was used to analyze the concept. A literature search using keywords 'pro-environmental health behavior, 'environmental health behavior', and 'eco-friendly health behavior' was conducted using PubMed, CINAHL, PsychINFO, and RISS and utilizing the results published from 1983 to 2011. Database and bibliographic searches yielded 84 records. Results: Four critical attributes of pro-environmental health behavior were identified as 'prevention and protection', 'internal process', 'altruism', and 'alternative'. Antecedents to pro-environmental health behavior were climate change, environmental pollution, and health risk. The consequences of pro-environmental health behavior were individual and social behavioral changes. Conclusion: The concept of pro-environmental health behavior developed in this project may offer information to be considered as the concept is further develop and efforts are made to measure the attributes of pro-environmental health behavior.

The trade-off studies in the concept development stage to assess the relative goodness of alternative systems concepts for AE (architect engineering) design for the Barge Mounted SMR (BMSMR) is introduced. With respect to design margin, system performance, schedule and risk, the design selection is cond ucted using the following characteristics; barge mobility, system safety under the natural disaster (seismic), power output, interfacing with the other system, and the additional supporting functions as desalination. There are three findings that should be remedied; deficiencies in the assumed characteristics of the system being modeled, deficiencies in the test model, and excessively stringent system requirements. This study is performed using systems engineering approach with trade off matrix method. In order to execute this work, concept development stage is divided into three (3) phases as NA (needs analysis), CE (concept exploration), and CD (concept definition).

Studies on housing concept currently activated by environmental psychology are in its early stage of developement. The trends can be characterized as case oriented, phenomenological, and exploratory. The purpose of this research was to explore empirically the housing concept from residents living in multi family housing complex through their verbal expressions. Subjects were 63 housewives of middle class households in Junggae area. Interview technique with open questions about housing concept and images was used. The responses were analyzed using content analysis in which episode was the analysis unit. Relaxation appeared the most important aspect of housing concept This seemed to imply the need for escaping from the modern city life with too much stimulus or stress. Answers on specific images considered desirable to keep and continue from past traditional housing to future housing showed their strong need for natural green environment such as garden and park. This supported the concept of relaxation as a major function of modern housing and showed a specific alternative mean to satisfy the relaxation concept.

In this study, we examined some matters related to the learning of variable concept in school mathematics on the basis of the theoretical foundation from the previous studies(e.g. Davis, 1975; Rosnick, 1981; IK chemann, 1981; Wagner, 1983.) and practices on variable concept teaching by evaluating the current state of that. Matters be discussed are as follows; the use of symbol for place holders in elementary mathematics, the dealing with sets those elements are literals and operations of such sets, the teaching of dummy variable, the construction of literal expressions that contains variables, the labeling indeterminates as a constant, the change in the exact meaning of variable according to the function concept, the teaching of a generalization by means of variables. After considering on these matters that are connected with the teaching-learning of variable concept, we suggested the alternative proposal to the current state of variable concept teaching.
