Properties of ZnO:Al thin film on variation of substrate temperature for display application

  • ZnO:Al(AZO) has been investigated for the photovoltaic cell or TCO(Transparent Conductive Oxide) of the display, because it has good electrical and optical properties. In this study, the ZnO:Al(AZO) thin film prepared on variation of substrate temperature by FTS(Facing Targets Sputtering) system. In case of TCO, because resistivity and roughness values affect the lighting of the OLED, their factors are very important. Therefore, in this paper, the electrical and optical properties of the AZO thin film were investigated with the deposition conditions and its roughness was investigated on variation of the substrate temperature. In results, AZO thin film deposited with the transmittance over 80% and the resistivity was reduced from $1.36{\times}10^{-3}$ [O-cm] to $4{\times}10^{-4}$ [O-cm] with increasing the substrate temperature from R.T to $200[^{\circ}C]$. Especially, we could obtain the resistivity $4{\times}10^{-4}$ [O-cm] of AZO thin film prepared at working pressure 1[mTorr], input current 0.4[A] and substrate temperature $200[^{\circ}C]$.

Electrical Properties of ZnO:Al Transparent Conducting Thin Films for Film-Typed Dye Sensitized Solar Cell

  • In this parer aluminium-doped zinc oxide(ZnO:Al) conducting layer was deposited on polyethylene terephthalate(PET) substrate by r. f. magnetron sputtering method. The effects of gas pressure and r. f. sputtering power on the structural and electrical properties of ZnO:Al thin film were investigated experimentally. Especially the effect of position of PET substrate on the electrical properties of the film was studied and fixed to improve the electrical properties and also to increase the deposition rate. The results show that the structural and electrical properties of ZnO:Al thin film were strongly influenced by the gas pressure and sputtering power. The minimum resistivity of $1.1{\times}10^{-3}[{\Omega}-cm]$ was obtained at 5[mTorr] of gas pressure, and 18D[W] of sputtering power. The deposition rate of ZnO:Al film at 5[mTorr] of gas pressure was 248[nm/min]. and is higher by around 3 times compared to that at 25[mTorr].

  • In this study, AlN thin films were deposited on a polycrystalline (poly) 3C-SiC buffer layer for surface acoustic wave (SAW) applications using a pulsed reactive magnetron sputtering system. AFM, XRD and FT-IR were used to analyze structural properties and preferred orientation of the AlN/3C-SiC thin film. Suitability of the film in SAW applications was investigated by comparing the SAW characteristics of an interdigital transducer (IDT)/AlN/3C-SiC structure with the IDT/AIN/Si structure at 160 MHz in the temperature range $30-150^{\circ}C$. These experimental results showed that AlN films on the poly 3C-SiC layer were highly (002) oriented. Furthermore, the film showed improved temperature stability for the SAW device, $TCF\;=\;-18\;ppm//^{\circ}C$. The change in resonance frequency according to temperature was nearly linear. The insertion loss decrease was about $0.033dB/^{\circ}C$. However, some defects existed in the film, which caused a slight reduction in SAW velocity.

상온에서 성막한 고감도의 Al1-xScxN 박막의 압력 감지 특성 (Pressure Sensing Properties of Al1-xScxN Thin Films Sputtered at Room Temperature)

  • Aluminum-scandium nitride ($Al_{1-x}Sc_xN$) thin films with a TiN buffer layer have been fabricated on SUS430 substrate by RF reactive magnetron sputtering at room temperature under 50% $N_2$/Ar. The effect of Sc-doping on the structure and piezoelectric properties of AlN films has been investigated using SEM, XRD, surface profiler and pressure-voltage measurements. The as-deposited AlN films showed polycrystalline phase, and the Sc-doped AlN film, the peak of AlN (002) plane and the crystallinity became very strong. With Sc-doping, the crystal size of AlN film was grown from ~20 nm to ~100 nm. The output signal voltage of AlN sensor showed a linear behavior between 15~65 mV, and output signal voltage of Sc-doped AlN sensor was increased over 7 times. The pressure-sensing sensitivity of AlN film was calculated about 10.6mV/MPa, and $Al_{0.88}Sc_{0.12}N$ film was calculated about 76 mV/MPa.

  • In the electronic components and devices fabrication, thin film resistors with low TCR(temperature coefficient of resistance) and high precision have been used over 3 GHz microwave in recent years. Ni-Cr alloys thin films resistors is one of the most commonly used resistive materials because it has low TCR and highly stable resistance. In this work, we fabricated thin film resistors using Evanohm alloys target(72Ni-20Cr-3Al-4Mn-Si) of s-type with excellent resistors properties by RF-sputtering. Also we reported best deposited conditions of thin film resistors for microwave to observe microstructure and electronic properties of thin film according to deposited conditions(between target and substrate, power supply)

Solid Lubrication Characteristics of DLC Coated Alumina Seals in High Temperature

  • Plasma immersion ion beam deposition (PIIBD) technique is a cost-effective process for the deposition of diamond like carbon thin film, the possible solid lubricant on large surface and a complex shape. We used PIIB process for the preparation of DLC thin film on $Al_2O_3$ with deposition conditions of deposition temperature range $200^{\circ}C$, working gas pressure of 1.310-1Pa. DLC thin films were coated by $C_2H_2$ ion beam deposition on $Al_2O_3$ after the ion bombardment of SiH4 as the bonding layer. Energetic bombardment of $C_2H_2$ ions during the DLC deposition to ceramic materials generated mixed layers at the DLC-Si interface which enhanced the interface to be highly bonded. Wear test showed that the low coefficient of friction of around 0.05 with normal load 2.9N and proved the advantage of the low energy ion bombardment in PIIBD process which improved the tribological properties of DLC thin film coated alumina ceramic. Furthermore, PIIBD was recognized as a useful surface modification technique for the deposition of DLC thin film on the irregular shape components, such as molds, and for the improvement of wear and adhesion problems of the DLC thin film, high temperature solid lubricant.

  • ZnO:Al 박막을 RF magnetron sputtering 법을 이용하여 초기 압력에 따라 증착하고 박막의 구조적, 광학적, 전기적 특성을 연구하였다. 초기 압력 변화에 의해 ZnO:Al 박막의 특성의 변화를 확인하였고 고품질의 박막을 얻을 수 있었다. 모든 ZnO:Al 박막에서 (002)면의 우선 배향성을 보였으며 가시광선 영역(400~800 nm)에서 85% 이상의 좋은 투과도를 보였다. 초기 압력이 낮아질수록 결정성, 비저항 그리고 성능지수 특성이 향상됨을 확인하였다. 초기 압력에 따른 비저항의 향상은 결정립 크기 변화에 의한 것으로 판단된다.

  • The barrier and optical properties of AlO$_{x}$ thin films on polycarbonate deposited by Reactive Ion Beam Sputtering (RIBS) were investigated at different oxygen partial pressure. We measured the deposition rate of AlO$_{x}$ thin films. As the oxygen partial pres-sure increased, the deposition rate increased then decreased. The changes of deposition rate are associated with the properties of deposited films. The properties of deposited AlO$_{x}$ thin films were studied using X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), Scan-ning Electron Microscopy (SEM), and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM). Optimum deposition parameters were found for fabricat-ing aluminum oxide thin films with high optical transparency for visible light and low Oxygen Transmission Rate (OTR). The optical transmittance of AlO$_{x}$ thin film deposited on polycarbonate (PC) showed the same value of bare PC.bare PC.

Properties of $Al_{2}O_{3}-SiO_{2}$ Films prepared with Metal Alkoxides

  • The preparation of $Al_{2}O_{3}-SiO_{2}$ thin films from less than one micron to several tens of microns in thickness had been prepared from metal alkoxide sols. Two methods, dip-withdrawal and electrophoretic deposition, were employed for thin films and sheets formation. The requirements to be satisfied by the solution for preparing uniform and strong films and by the factors affecting thickness and other properties of the films were examined. For the preparation of thin, continuous $Al_{2}O_{3}-SiO_{2}$ films, therefore, metal-organic-derived precursor solutions contained Si and Al in a chemically polymerized form has been developed and produced in a clear liquid state. In the process of applying to substrates, this liquid left a transparent, continuous film that could be converted to crystalline $Al_{2}O_{3}-SiO_{2}$ upon heating to $1000^{\circ}C$. And, a significant change of the film density took place in the crystallization process, thus leading to the strict requirements as to the film thickness, which could survive crystallization.
