This study analyzes the impact of verbal and non-verbal communication styles of airport staff, especially those working at airline check-in counters, on passenger satisfaction. Research Design: The research design focuses on the impact of verbal communication styles and non-verbal communication factors of airline check-in counter staff, who represent the initial point of contact with passengers among airport staff, on passenger satisfaction. The survey period for sample collection was from July 1 to July 30, 2023, and the study was conducted targeting passengers boarding aircraft through Incheon Airport and Gimpo Airport. Result: First, it is important for airport staff to recognize all passengers, especially corporate customers, as corporate customers rather than simply as individuals boarding an airplane. Second, as the importance of non-verbal expressions increases due to the impact of COVID-19, physical and verbal responses are necessary. Third, it is important to check which language the passenger understands. Conclusions: Since communication through nonverbal expressions has become more important since COVID-19, airport employees need to recognize the importance of nonverbal communication. This awareness can serve as a foundation for building trust between airport staff and passengers.

  • In general, an airport access system has influenced on airport terminal operation. The congestion and delay in service facilities at an airport are definitely depended on the patterns of passenger arrival behavior and time spent in a terminal. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the passenger arrival behavior at an airport to improve the operations at passenger terminal. Passenger arrival patterns to an airport are mainly depended on factors such as the length of access time. reliability of access time. and provision of transport modes, etc. The focus of this paper is to estimate the relationship between the length of access time and passenger's total time spent to board aeroplane. For this, passenger surveys were conducted at the Gimpo International Airport for a large airport and Sacheon Airport for a small size airport. The mathematical relationship between arrival time at an airport prior to the scheduled time of departure(STD) and access time spent was then estimated. It is considered that the results of this study can be used to reduce congestion and delays, thereby to improve the efficiency of the passenger services at the airports.

  • This study was carried out to suggest new indicators to be used at airports. Generally, passengers and cargo will be handled at the airport, and the airport will achieve revenues through them. However, all airports can not have the same distribution of passenger and cargo throughput. When comparing and analyzing several airports, a uniform result can be expected only if a unit airport throughput indicator is applied. The 'Work Load Unit' is an indicator that integrates passengers and cargo into one, and assumes that the value of one passenger is equivalent to the cargo volume of 100kg. The existing WLU was set up based on the experience at the airport rather than being established through reasonable grounds or analysis, so there was a lot of controversy. The purpose of this study is to overcome these limitations and to suggest new index. In this study, we applied a method to compare the relative value of cargo and passenger to airport revenue. In order to analyze cargo value and passenger value, airport revenues are classified into aircraft operation related revenues, passenger handling related revenues, and commercial revenues. A total of 50 airports were selected, including 14 airports in Asia, 18 airports in Europe and 18 airports in North America. According to the final analysis results, it is concluded that the cargo is equivalent to 280kg of cargo based on the contribution of one passenger averagely. This is higher than the value of 100Kg cargo per passenger.

  • Incheon International Airport has handled 3,054,485 transfer passengers (11.9% transfer rate) and 950,441 transfer cargo(44.2% transfer rate)recorded in 2005. Comparing to 30-40% transfer passenger rate which are competition hub airports in northeast Asia, transfer passenger rate of Incheon International Airport is lower. Above all, We think that Minimum Connecting Time(MCT) which is relating factors with transfer rate need to be monitored to make up for the weak points in the current Incheon internationalairport system. Minimum Connecting Time is defined the legally minimum time necessary to change planes at a given airport. and Transfers represent 35% of the total passenger volume at Vienna International Airport in Europe, which underscores our function as a major international hub. Vienna is rated priority in reservation systems because of our excellent minimum connecting time, and that increases the sale of tickets through our airport. In 2004 the total number of transfer passengers rose 18% to 5,089,624. Short routes, a one roof concept and an outstanding logistics system make Vienna an ideal airport for transfers. This transfer-friendly one roof concept will also form the basis for the new VlE-Skylink Terminal. In case of Japan, Star Alliance has also implemented its so called "Move under one roof"concept at the new Centrair airport. All member carriers are located in the same part of the termina1, sharing check-in counters and ticketing facilities. Star Alliance member carriers can now offer customersa reduced average minimum connecting time of one hour, for transfers between international and domestic. The research purpose of the Study on the Enhancement for Minimum Connecting Time of Incheon International Airport is to increase transfer rate of passenger and cargo of Incheon International Airport at Northeast Asia through this paper.
