Failure Studies on the Wear Scars of an Automotive Tire (차량용 타이어의 마멸손상에 관한 고장사례 연구)

  • This paper presents the case studies on the friction related wears of an automotive tire, which is strongly connected to the safety and comfort of a driver during a running of a car. Wear scars of a tire tread are affected by various causes such as an air pressure, a wheel alignment, a driving speed, road conditions, starting and braking habits of a driver. The data were collected from used tires for a replacement at the car service center. Most of the wear problems came from the improper repair and adjustment of revolving components, which cause an unbalanced wear of a tread part of a tire. Thus, the regular checking of a tire radically reduces the wear scars of a tire and may increase a driving safety and a fuel economy of a car and a wear life of a tire.

Experimental Study on the Performance Characteristics of Air Hybrid Engine (Air hybrid 엔진의 구동 특성에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • A preliminary experimental study of new concept air hybrid engine, which stores compressed air in the tank during braking and re-use it to propel vehicle during crusing or acceleration, was carried out in this study. A single cylinder engine was modified to realize the concept of air hybrid engine. Independent variable valve lift system was adopted in one of the exhaust valves to store the compressed air into the air tank during compression period. An air injector module was installed in the place of spark plug, and the stored compressed air was supplied during the expansion period to realize air motoring mode. For air compression mode, the tank with volume of 30 liter could be charged up to more than 13 bar. By utilizing this stored compressed air, motoring work of 0.41 bar of IMEP(Indicated mean effective pressure) at maximum can be generated at the 800rpm conditions, which is higher than the case of normal idle condition by 1.1 bar of IMEP.

  • The HVAC(Heating Ventilation and Air conditioning) system is controlled by two ways, one is ON/OFF control and the other is PWM inverter with V/F. Control of blower with the use of PWM inverter has quite some benefits such as the capability of changing speed, high efficiency and reduced noise level compared with ON/OFF control. But if blower is operated at low speed, high THD generated by decrease of ma, and output voltage lowered in proportion to frequency. To solve these problems, filter should be installed at the output stage of inverter, which can decrease THD but has problems such as increase of volume size and additional braking resistance. This paper proposes the PWAM method which can reduce THD instead of installing the filter at the output stage of inverter. The proposed PWAM method is an inverter modulation method that fixes the modulation index of inverter to reduce THD by varying DC link voltage of inverter unlike conventional PWM method. Finally, the validity of proposed PWAM methods verified by experiments.

  • Recently, many vehicles have applied electric parts for saving fuel consumption and reducing levels of environmental pollution. ISG (integrated starter & generator) is one of main electric parts and can improve fuel efficiency by using idle stop & go function and regenerative braking system. However, if ISG driving inverter works under the continuously high load condition, it will make the performance and durability of the inverter decreased with rising temperature. In this study, we carried out the analysis on the fluid flow and thermal characteristics of the inverter. As a result, we found the MOSFET of the air cooled inverter was increased up to $116^{\circ}C$ over the limit temperature. On the other hand, the liquid cooled type inverter's MOSFET was decreased by about $17^{\circ}C$ compared to that of the air cooled inverter. Therefore, we verified the feasibility of the liquid cooled type using the present cooling structure.

  • Mechanical break system used in train, that mixed air break & electronic break system. this system suggest lots of ways for modify efficiency and solution of environmental problems due to recently intend to green growth. The mechanical break system has environmental & economical problem. Environmental sides(problem) are dust and noise etc and economical sides(problem) are replaced the spare parts that are breaking shoe and lining ect. For compensate those kind of weak points, we needs a wide territories of electronic break which is from high speed range to stop. This research is estimated the load torque due to an incline and stop the train method also check the characteristic of stop the train to estimate a torque follow the sharp drop.

  • This paper presents an automobile traction control system by using a sliding mode controller with disturbance observer for estimating the car-body speed. First, we show that the control system, which combines an automobile system and a disturbance observer, can be divided into a controllable system and an estimated one. And, we found out that the effect of the traction control and ABS depends on the air resistance of the car. Then, the sliding mode control system is designed using the obtained combined system. And finally, the stability of this control system is verified by simulation and it shows a very satisfactory results.

  • This paper proposes two kinds of the eddy current brake which uses permanent magnet. The one, like multipolar excitation consists of hexahedron shape of a segmented permanent magnetic and iron situated in the air-gap. The other, like multipolar excitation consists of only a segmented permanent magnetic. We use a finite element method to compute the flux distribution in the model. Also, we use the Galerkin-FEM with linear interpolation function may oscillate between the adjacent nodes to calculate the braking and attraction force. The advantages of the Halbach array are discussed.

Therefore, acquisition of the marine safety has the great affect on national security and economical life. On the high tension of situation about threat and possibility of maritime terroism, the potential ways of the improvement policy for counter-tactics against big maritime terror are the following. First, we should construct clear and well-organized network for accurate information about maritime terrorism Second, we should have the information of all domestic, foreign passenger's ships Third, national important facilities such as atomic energy plant, thermo-electric power plant, shipyard need policies to manage all emergency situation Fourth, government authorities should improve tactic abilitities by competing with support and budget inside of nation as well as outside of nation. To develop big maritime terror of our country, we will have to hold cooperative training & tactics contest of big maritime terror by cooperating educational industry organization with similar institute, improve the ability of members of big terror and acquire tactics information by excavating and exchanging a new technique through tactics seminar and public hearing.

  • Because of their longer operating times and larger size relative to conventional fans, the cooling fans mounted in buses consume larger amounts of energy. Most of the cooling fans mounted in a bus are connected to the engine by a viscous clutch. A viscous cooling fan's speed is determined by its fluid temperature, which is affected by the air flow through the radiator. The fan does not react immediately to the coolant temperature and in doing so causes unnecessary energy consumption. Therefore, the fuel economy of buses using viscous fans can be improved by changing to an electric cooling fan design, which can be actively controlled. In addition, electric power consumption is increased by using electric cooling fans. Thus, when electric fans are applied in conjunction with the alternator management system (AMS), the fuel economy is further enhanced. In this study, simulations were performed to predict coolant temperature and cooling fan speeds. Simulations were performed for both viscous and electric cooling fans, and power consumption was calculated. Additionally, fuel economy was calculated applying both the alternator management system and the electric cooling fan.
