비행기에서의 앞날개의 각도에 따른 유동해석 (Flow Analysis due to the Angle of the Front Wing on an Airplane)

  • In this study, the flow rate and air resistance pressure were analyzed on models a, b, and c due to the front wing angle of the airplanes. Models a, b, and c have front wing angles of 120°, 100°, and 160°, respectively. The results of the flow analyses showed that the flow rate and air resistance pressure of model c were observed to be higher than models a and b. The airplane model with a larger angle to the front wing is thought to be the best model for flight. This result can be applied to development of the best in-flight airplane.

  • Although the carbonation problem of high-volume slag concrete has been solved by the mixed use of emulsified refine cooling oil as the pilot study, there was an instance of securing air quantity and frost resistance followed by the use of Expancel due to the problem of having vulnerability in frost resistance in result as the air quantity has not been secured. But due to the problem of Expancel not being economical, air quantity and frost resistance of high-volume slag concrete mixed with ERCO are attempted to be secured using micro bubble that can remain in the water for a long time as a relatively economical and very microscopic bubble.

Effect of Cathodic Biofilm on the Performance of Air-Cathode Single Chamber Microbial Fuel Cells

  • Biofilm formation is inevitable in a bioelectrochemical system in which microorganisms act as a sole biocatalyst. Cathodic biofilm (CBF) works as a double-edged sword in the performance of the air-cathode microbial fuel cells (MFCs). Proton and oxygen crossover through the CBF are limited by the robust structure of extracellular polymeric substances, composition of available constituents and environmental condition from which the biofilm is formed. The MFC performance in terms of power, current and coulombic efficiency is influenced by the nature and origin of CBF. Development of CBF from different ecological environment while keeping the same anode inoculums, contributes additional charge transfer resistance to the total internal resistance, with increase in coulombic efficiency at the expense of power reduction. This study demonstrates that MFC operation conditions need to be optimized on the choice of initial inoculum medium that leads to the biofilm formation on the air cathode.

  • Air void systems in hardened concrete has an important influence on concrete durability such as freeze-thaw resistance, water permeability, surface scaling resistance, and etc. Linear traverse method and point count method described at ASTM have been widely used to estimate the air void system in hardened concrete. These methods, however, are rarely used at present, because they require many efforts, are time consuming works, depend on each person's decision, and are not repeatable. Thus, new image analysis method using microscope and computer processes has been approached for analyzing air void system in hardened concrete. However, it is just in initial step. The purposes of this study were to develope an effective and reliable image analysis technique for estimating air void system in hardened concrete. The developed technique was proved to be accurate, reasonable and repeatable.

  • The voltage profile during discharge of the zinc air battery has very flat pattern until reach to end of discharge voltage. But, when zinc air battery is discharged by high current, the discharge voltage and energy becomes low. Therefore, we focused on effects of catalyst size to solve this problems by increasing active sites of oxygen reduction reaction. The size of catalyst was reduced from 27 to l${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and we examined average discharge voltage, capacity, energy, resistance and characteristics during GSM pulse discharge of zinc air battery with change of current density. And we also measured porosity of the cathode according to the ASTM. So we have got improvement of average discharge voltage and energy when catalyst was minimized and we have got optimum size of catalyst at 5${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$.

  • The superiority of air versus saline for identifying the epidural space remains unestablished. Epidural anesthesia using a loss of resistance technique (LORT) with air is associated with increasing complications of dural puncture-induced headaches and neurological and hemodynamic changes. Here, we described a case of pneumocephalus with a large amount of air that was accompanied by severe headache and nuchal and chest pain occurring after epidural block using LORT with air for combined spinal-epidural anesthesia.

엔탈피법을 이용한 원통형 몰드내에서의 상변화과정에 관한 연구 (A study on the phase change in the cylindrical mold by the enthalpy method)

  • The heat transfer characteristics at the interface between the mold and the casting is one of the major factors for the solidification speed which determines the casting structures. The thermal resistance exists due to air gap formation at the mold/casting interface during the freezing process. In this study one dimensional Stefan problem with the air-gap resistance in the cylindrical mold is considered and the heat transfer characteristics is numerically examined by using the enthalpy method which is convenient in solving the Stefan problem with mushy zone. The present results agreed very well with those of previous papers. The effects of major parameters such as thermal conductivity, heat transfer coefficient of mold, on the thermal characteristics are investigated.

마그네슘/공기연료전지의 과도특성에 관한 연구 (Transient Characteristics of Mg/Air Fuel Cell)

  • The transient characteristics of the Mg/Air fuel cell were ascribed to the load current, electrolyte concentrations, air electrode area and electrode distance. It was found that transient phenomena occurred in the load current, which is due to activate of the oxidation and reduction reaction process. The transient time increase with the load current increase. The transient characteristics were investigated with regard to internal resistance. The maximum power output analysis was employed in order to explain the delayed action under various experimental conditions. The internal resistances had a significant effect on the transient characteristics. The transient curves thus obtained were in almost agreement with internal resistance characteristics.

A Comparative Study on the Evaluation of the Wear Resistance in Zr-xNb-xSn Alloys

  • Sliding wear tests have been carried out in room temperature air and water in order to compare the wear resistance of Zr-xNb-xSn alloys of various alloying elements (Nb and Sn). The main focus was to quantitatively compare the wear properties of the recently developed Zr-xNb-xSn alloys with the commercial ones using the evaluation parameters of the wear resistance with the consideration of the worn area. As a result, the recently developed alloys had a similar wear resistance compared with the commercial ones. The dominant factor governing the wear resistance was the protruded volume of the wear debris that was formed on the worn area in the air condition, but the accommodation of the plastic deformation on the contact area in water. In addition, the worn area size appeared to be very different depending on the tested alloys. To evaluate the wear resistance of each test specimen, the ratio of the wear volume or the protruded volume to the worn area ($D_e$ or $D_p$) is investigated and proposed as the evaluation parameters of the wear resistance.
