Quality evaluation for food and agricultural products have always been one of the most elusive problems associated with the handling , processing and marketing in a food plant production. In order to detect physical foreign materials in food and agricultural products, non-destructive techniques have been developed for many years. Application of X-ray system to detect physical foreign materials in food and agricultural products could be considered to be a high potential method. Especially , it is impossible to detect internal physical foreign materials by visual inspections. In this study, it was tried to be applied for two different X-ray devices. Soft X-ray system with CdTe sensor and X-ray CT scanner were evaluated for advantage of the detection of non-meltallic foreign materials in food and agricultural products . Though the soft X-ray is not a high energy radiation, it is possible to detect small different density in a material. The CdTe sensor has a high resolution for t e soft X-ray energy region. The density characteristics of foods and foreign material were expressed region. The density characteristics of foods and foreign materials were expressed as a soft X-ray energy spectrum. The energy spectrum was analyzed by a personal computer with a multi-channel analyzer. X-ray CT scanner can provide visual image and analyze by three dimensional information inside food and agricultural products. The X-ray CT scanner using as a medical equipment was used to detect a foreign material. The density characteristics of food and foreign materials in food were tried to be detected by the threshold value on the basis of the CT numbers. The soft X-ray absorption characteristics for acrylin plates and distilled water were obtained and could be found the possibility of detecting a small physical foreign materials such as a plastic wrapping film , a stone and grasshopper in food and agricultural products.
The purpose of this study was to investigate basic data on the degree of parents' recognition and satisfaction with the use of environment-friendly agricultural products. The conclusions of this study are as follows. The survey on the use of environment-friendly products in households showed that 68.7% of the respondents used environment-friendly products at home. The frequency of purchasing organic products by household consumers showed that 25.1% of the respondents bought organic products one to two times per week. The most popular items of the environment-friendly agricultural products used were vegetables, comprising 63.9%. The households with more than 3,000,000 won of monthly income tended to consume more domestic livestock products (p < 0.05). In comparison to general agricultural products, environment-friendly agricultural products users showed higher satisfaction level with a better quality in term of safety, quality, nutrition, taste, appearance, diversity and price. The degree of satisfaction with safety was the highest ($3.8{\pm}0.68$), and price showed the lowest ($2.76{\pm}0.79$). The degree of parents' recognition of the governmental support for environment-friendly agricultural products showed that those who were aware of the supporting policy were 44.5%, but 55.5% of them didn't know about the fact that 46.6% of the respondents agreed that environment-friendly agricultural products should be used in more than 50% of the foods used for school food service. The respondents pointed out that vegetables (45%) sprayed with pesticide are the most urgent food item that need to be replaced by environment-friendly farm products.

This study was carried out to monitor suspected endocrine disrupting pesticides and industrial organic chemicals among circulated agricultural products in the north area of Seoul in 2001. Procymidone, vinclozolin, endosulfan, chlorothalonil, chloropyrifos and pendimetaline (pesticides) and butylated hydroxytoluene(industrial organic chemicals) were certified by GC-MS. Detected 6 pesticides were remained mostly in the green vegetables, spices and wild plants with $3\%$ detected. Butylated hydroxytoluene(industrial organic chemicals) used for green house cover stuffs was contained mostly in the green vegetables, spices and wild plants not in the fruits and cereals with $43\%$ detected. In the same agricultural products containing butylated hydroxy toluene showed same detection tendency with remaining endocrine disrupting pesticides.
Environment-friendly agricultural products market has been experiencing various change through the quantitative growth in Korea. The food safety is considered seriously and the interest of the consumer is increasing about environment-friendly agricultural products and organic agricultural products. Environment-friendly agricultural products is encouraged in the link of the counter-measure which follows in the market opening. This research aims at making shorter the distance between the productive person and the consumer and to improve the income for organic farm and the price competitiveness for Environment-friendly agricultural products through the present condition analysis for organic produce's production, distribution and consumption market. To solve the problems above, the development of strategies for the establishment of distribution system for the organic produce's stable supply and the improvement of price competitiveness, the establishment of the cooperating system on the produce's demand and supply, the improvement of consumer's reliability by reinforcement with connectivity and transparency of the process, and the vitalization of regional economy and the exchange of rural and city area are needed.

Purpose - The number of consumers adopting a lifestyle of health and sustainability has recently increased with the rise of trends in healthy living. The size of the organic agricultural product market has also increased given that these consumers prefer consuming environmentally friendly products that promote family health. However, awareness of organic agricultural products remains insufficient because of the characteristics of the Korean organic agriculture system, which only focuses on food safety inspection. The object of this research is to suggest a policy approach to increase understanding and to expand the purchasing of organic agricultural products by analyzing the influence of customer recognition of such products on their willingness to repurchase. Research design, data, and methodology - This study used binomial logistic regression analysis with the aim of explaining the effects of consumers' socio-demographic characteristics, their awareness of the equivalence arrangement for organic food and of the abolishment of low-pesticide agricultural product certification, and their viewing of negative broadcasts about organic agricultural products on their repurchase intention of such products. A questionnaire survey was conducted with 655 respondents who were in their 20s, lived either in Seoul or in its metropolitan area, and had purchased organic agricultural products. Result - From the results of the analysis, the majority of the respondents recognized organic agricultural products, but they found their prices to be expensive. The majority of the respondents were also aware of the certification system and the reliability of organic agricultural products. However, the results indicate that efforts need to be made to recover consumer trust as many respondents stated that their trust levels in these products were low. In general, those purchasing organic agricultural products were satisfied, but those answering "very satisfied" were not in the majority. Binomial logistic regression analysis results revealed that repurchase intention decreased as consumers viewed a greater number of negative broadcasts about these products. On the other hand, repurchase intention increased as they became more aware of the abolishment of low-pesticide certification. Repurchase intention also increased as income increased, as the number of family members decreased, and when a consumer was a member of a consumer organization. In addition, the older the consumers were who watched the TV programs, the smaller the number of family members that were aware of the abolishment of low-pesticide agricultural product certification and, the higher the income of the consumers aware of organic equivalence arrangement, the greater their repurchase intention. Conclusion - External stimuli, such as negative TV programs on organic agricultural products and the abolishment of the low-pesticide agricultural product certification, relevant social issues and systems, influence consumer repurchase intention. To that end, positive environmental and ecological broadcasting about organic agricultural products would contribute to an increase in purchasing. Additionally, this could be used for promotion and marketing plans as the results indicate that trust in organic agricultural products would cause a positive repurchasing effect.
The objectives of this study were to investigate using environment-friendly agricultural products and to analyze consciousness of agricultural safety of consumers. The data were collected from 1,000 consumers by two-staged stratified random sampling. SPSSWIN/ver. 13 program was used for analyzing data with frequency, cross-tab, t-test and ANOVA. The major findings of this study were as follows: 1) Consumers with higher academic career, more income, and white collars showed higher experiences on environment-friendly agricultural products. 2) Consumers who are under thirties, university graduation and upper income revealed high intention to use environment-friendly agricultural products. 3) The study revealed information needs and information acquisition are significantly different among consumers 4) Consumers with higher academic and upper income showed higher agricultural safety concern, 5) The study discovered that consumers who are over sixties and under middle school graduation were higher on agricultural safety effects.

Purpose - This study aims to understand the brand marketing of agricultural products and redefine their status in South Korea by analyzing impacts on consumer buying behaviors. Research design, data, and methodology - Products, with independent variables, were divided into agricultural brand products and generic products. Dependent variables were limited to expanding sales of a specialty brand through consumer awareness, consumer buying behavior, and confidence in agricultural products' quality. Control variables were based on characteristics of products such as freshness, safety, quality, and their category. Moderating effects were examined on consumer characteristics, including income levels and age. Results - Consumers increasingly purchased agricultural brand products rather than generic agricultural products because of the general reliability of quality assurance. Conclusions - Large agricultural specialty stores have enhanced the perceptions of quality assurance, freshness, safety, and diversity. Through a critical analysis of the domestic consumer income levels and age, gender, and demographic factors, such as agricultural consumer buying behavior not affecting consumers' health and life, this study proposes positive changes in quality perception.
The purpose of this study is to examine changes in the residues of procymidone and diazinon in Chwinamul, pepper leaves, and young radish according to drying method. When the three vegetables were dried at room with air stream, the residues of procymidone and diazinon increased, but after being adjusted to reflect the decrease in water content of the vegetables, the residues declined by 10 to 83 percent. When they were dried in a oven, the residues of the pesticides in the vegetables also increased, but after being adjusted to reflect the drop in the water content, the residues decreased by 44 to 71 percent. According to the results, the residues of the pesticides mostly decreased after being adjusted to reflect the drop in the water content of the dried vegetables. Therefore, when judging dried agricultural products not only the decreased water content of dried vegetables but also other factors that affect pesticide residues during the drying process should be considered. This raises the need for additional research on such factors.

The peptide-type hepatotoxins microcystins (MCs) and nodularin (NOD) are secondary metabolites produced by cyanobacteria. MCs and NOD can bioaccumulate in agricultural products through toxin-contaminated water, soil, and manure and can cause human health risks through the consumption of agricultural products. As interest in the contamination of agricultural products by MCs or NOD has recently emerged, occurrence studies based on various analysis methods for agricultural products have been conducted. However, studies on agricultural products are still insufficient compared to research on drinking water and seafood. In addition, research is primarily conducted on agricultural products grown in areas where green algae occur, but not on marketed products. In the present study, we review the physicochemical properties, toxicity, analysis methods, occurrence studies, and management status of MCs and NOD in agricultural products to build a foundation for systematic monitoring and safety management.
Monitoring of pesticide residues were conducted at three sites in the Southern Area of Seoul, Korea (Gang-nam, Gang-dong and Song-pa). We measured pesticide residues within soil samples using multi-pesticide residues analysis. Samples were collected at the three sites with 60 sampling spots. The amount of pesticide residues in the soil samples were as follows [(minimum-maximum), mg/kg] endosulfan 0.002-0.999, procymidone 0.002-1.200, diazinon 0.003-0.024, metalaxyl 0.012-0.075. In soil treated with 0.445 mg/kg of endosulfan, the pesticide absorbed by chamnamul, was 0.157 mg/kg (Absorption rate : 35.3%). However, in soil treated with 0.358 mg/kg of endosulfan, the pesticide absorbed by lettuce, was 0.004 mg/kg (Absorption rate : 1.1%).
