  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the cognitive differences among the aged who have different living conditions. 91 free-meal receivers and 86 people with stable lives were asked about their living conditions and cognitive function by using K-MMSE. All data were analyzed by SPSS 10.0 package. Free meal receivers had poorer socioeconomic status than the subjects who had stable lives. Cognitive function of free meal receivers was lower than the people with stable lives in the most cognitive factors. Especially age of 50 to 64, pre-aged group, who had been receiving free meals, showed lowest cognitive level than the other age groups. Among 7 cognitive factors, there was the greatest difference in attention and calculation between 2 groups. Percentage of 'conclusive dementia' among the free meal receivers was statistically higher than the people with stable lives and that of 'conclusively normal' was statistically lower in free meal receivers comparing with the people with stable lives. Moreover, socioeconomic factors like income, former job, marital status, housing and education, blood pressure and physical activity were significantly related to the subject's cognitive function.

As a result of the study, the preliminary aged group was significant than the aged group in all three variables. In the relation of health concern and health behavior, there was significance both for the preliminary aged(p〈0.01) and the aged group(p〈0.001). Also, there was significance in the relation of health behavior and subjective health condition of two groups(p〈0.001). However, in the relation of subjective health condition and health concern, there was significance only for the aged group(p〈0.001). For the correlation among three variables, there was significance in the relation between health concern and health behavior and between health behavior and subjective health condition of the preliminary aged group(p〈0.01), but there was significance in the relation between health concern and health behavior and between health behavior and subjective health condition of the aged group(p〈0.01).

  • This study focuses on an intergenerational book club with middle-aged and young people as a follow-up study on a book club with older people and young people. The book club program was designed to help people develop a reading habit and experience picture book bibliotherapy. The researcher hosted a picture book reading group between middle-aged and young participants, had individual interviews, and conducted a qualitative study to analyze research data and present implications. For middle-aged participants, the intergenerational book club was an opportunity to understand young people and their children and learn from the young people, and for young participants, it helped them understand middle-aged people and their parents and learn from the middle-aged people, allowing them to feel a sense of connection rather than a generation gap. In addition, positive effects of picture book bibliotherapy were seen while reducing stress and learning important lessons in life. The participants received help in forming a reading habit. This paper provides constructive suggestions for book clubs where different generations interact. It is hoped that through this study, intergenerational book clubs that can be used to understand other generations will be more popular and people will be able to discover the benefits of reading books including picture books and make reading a habit.

  • As China has the largest number of elderly people in the world, the issue of the aged people has been a serious matter of concern in Chinese government and society and many studies have been done so far. However, the studies about the dwellings of the aged people that support their basic life are still insufficient. For this reason this study intends to identify the differences in elderly people's preferences according to their situations in aged life. This study surveyed 152 elderly residents aged 50 and over including early aged people in Beijing China about their residential preferences (types of residence, location of residence, size of residence, types of ownership) according to the four types of their situations in aged life, healthy couple, sick couple, healthy single and sick single. The survey conducted from 2013 April 10th to 15th. The results were as follows: Firstly, as the elderly situation became worse, preference for the independent residence decreased very rapidly while the preference for the elderly welfare facilities dramatically increased from the 0 point of the healthy couple and the preference for the elderly welfare facilities marked the highest point in case of the worst situation of sick single. Secondly, among the four different situations preferences for the urban residence were the highest and as the aged people's situation becomes worse, their preferences for urban life increased. Thirdly, healthy couple preferred a large size residence but as their elderly situation becomes worse, their preferences for the large size decreased and their preferences for small size increased dramatically, and in case of elderly singles, preferences for small size residence exceeded their preferences for large size residence. Fourthly, as elderly situation became worse preference for owning residence decreased and preference for rental residence increased and in case of the worst situation of sick single, preference for rental residence was higher than their preferences for their own residence. With this view of point, the residential preference of elderly people changes along with their aging situations. Thus, the government should consider the variable aging market, and develop a variety of aging residence which, can satisfy the different groups of elderly.

  • Adults in their middle age are being held back by their roles through economic activities, but their rapid retirement and job sharing are adding to their anxiety. Also, it is very important to establish welfare policies for the elderly in the future because it can predict the economic situation in the old age through the economic activities of middle-aged adults. My study analyzed the 6th data of Kreis of the National Pension Research Institute's. The number of people studied is 2,552 employed people aged 40 or over 64 across the country. According to the analysis, there were more men than women. There were many high school graduates and 50s. There were many people who had spouses and who lived in the province. Wage workers represented 53.1% of the total. The lower the age, the higher the level of education, the higher the number of wage earners. Only 29% of standard workers and 30.8% of regular workers were employed. There were many economically unstable middle-aged adults. Economic instability in the middle age requires social attention because it can lead to poverty in old age. Therefore, measures should be taken to ensure stable jobs for middle-aged adults, whose spending increases more than their income.
