  • Silver nanoparticles were synthesized by liquid phase reduction method from aqueous silver nitrate solution and borohybride as a reduction agent. The morphology, particle size and shape were influenced by the reaction conditions such as the concentration of $AgNO_3$, a reduction agent and addition of surfactant. The particle size decreased with decreasing the concentration of silver nitrate and using a borohydride. The obtained Ag particles showed the spherical shape with the range of 10-20 nm.

  • An ultrasound-assisted Sn-Ag-Pd activation method for electroless copper plating was presented in this study. With this activation process, it was shown that the fine catalyst particles were homogeneously distributed with high density on the entire specimen. In addition, it was observed that incubation period occurred during the electroless plating step was decreased owing to the absorption of Ag which holds high catalytic activity. Resulting from the refinement and high densification of catalyst, the defect-free gap-fill was achieved within the 20x nm trench.

  • This study was carried out to investigate if nitric oxide synthase (NOS) inhibitors modulate airway inflammation induced by diesel exhaust particles (DEP). N$\^$G/-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME), a potent constitutive NOS (cNOS) inhibitor, and aminoguanidine (AG), a selective inducible NOS (iNOS) inhibitor, were administered to mice in their drinking water for 7 weeks. Airway inflammation was elicited by the repeated intratracheal administration of DEP. The results showed that macrophages, inflammatory eosinophils and neutrophils in bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluids by intratracheal DEP instillation were significantly suppressed in the mice treated with two NOS inhibitors toghther with DEP. The suppression of these cells was more effective in AG treated groups than in L -NAME treated groups. NOS inhibitor treatment also reduced interleukin -5 (IL-5 in the BAL fluids and lung homogenates. Additionally, it was found that eosinophil peroxidase (EPO) activity in the BAL fluids was also decreased by NOS inhibitor treatment. These results suggest that nitric oxide (NO) is produced in airway inflammation by repeated DEP instillation, and that iNOS inhibition as well as cNOS inhibition can play a modulating role in this airway inflammation by DEP.

  • We have fabricated superconductor ceramics by chemical process. A high Tc superconductorwith a nominal composition of $Bi_{2}Sr_{2}Ca_{2}Cu_{3}O_y$ was prepared by the organic metal salts method. Experimental results suggest that the intermediate phase formed before the formation of the superconductor phase may be the most important factor. During the sintering, doped $Ag_{2}O$ was converted to Ag particles which were finely dispersed in superconductor samples.

  • This paper presents a novel single-step method to prepare the Ag nanometallic particle dispersed fluid (nanofluid) by electrical explosion of wire in liquid, deionized water (DI water). X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM) and transmission electron microscope (TEM) were used to investigate the characteristics of the Ag nanofluids. Zeta potential was also used to measure the dispersion properties of the as-prepared Ag nanofluid. Pure Ag phase was detected in the nanofluids using water. FE-SEM analysis shows that the size of the particles formed in DI water was about 88 nm and Zeta potential value was about -43.68 without any physical and chemical treatments. Thermal conductivity of the as-prepared Ag particle dispersed nanofluid shows much higher value than that of pure DI water.

  • In the present study, potassium and caesium doped Ag/$Al_2O_3$ catalysts were synthesized by simple wet impregnation method and evaluated for selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NOx using methane. TEM analysis and diffraction patterns demonstrated the finely dispersed Ag particles. BET surface measurements reveal that the prepared materials have moderate to high surface area and the metal amount found from ICP analysis was well matching with the theoretical loadings. The synthesized K-Ag/$Al_2O_3$ and Cs-Ag/$Al_2O_3$ catalysts exhibited a promotional effect on deNOx activity in the presence of $SO_2$ and $H_2O$. The long-term isothermal studies at $550^{\circ}C$ under oxygen rich condition showed the superior catalytic properties of the both alkali promoted samples. The crucial catalytic properties of materials are attributed to NO adsorption properties detected by the NO TPD.

  • The electrochemical adsorption of the Ag ions from aqueous solution on pelletized activated carbon monolith was investigated over wide range of operation time. The adsorption capacities of pelletized activated carbon monolith are associated with their internal porosity and are related properties such as surface area, pore size distribution. The chemical industry generates wastewater that contains toxic matters like heavy metals in small concentrations so that their economic recovery is not feasible. But, the method using activated carbon monolith can be used to withdrawal of heavy metals in waste water. After the electrochemical treatment, the quantitative properties in Ag ion solutions are also examined by pH concentration and studied elemental analysis by ICP-Atomic Emission Spectrometer and Energy Disperse X-ray (EDX) spectra. It is consider that the pH is very important factor at the reason of water pollutant with increasing acidity in industrial field. The result of quantitative analysis using Inductively Coupled Plasma-Atomic Emission Spectrometer of metal after electrochemical reaction in Ag ions solution depending on time are shown that the amount of Ag ions deposited was decreased with growth of Ag particles on the carbon surfaces as increasing electrochemically treated time. And, surface morphologies are investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to explain the changes in adsorption properties.

  • New approach for the determination of Ag(I) ion was performed by using a carbon paste electrode (CPE) containing N,N'-Diphenyl oxamide (DPO) with anodic stripping voltammetry. The CMEs have been prepared by making carbon paste mixtures containing an appropriate amount of DPO salt coated onto graphite particles to analyze trace metal ions via complexation followed by stripping voltammetry. Various experimental parameters affecting the response, such as pH, deposition time, temperature, and electrode composition, were carefully optimized. Using differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry, the logarithmic linear response range for the Ag(I) ion was 1.0 × $10^{-7}$ - 5.0 × $10^{-9}$ M at the deposition time of 10 min, with the detection limit was 7.0 × $10^{-10}$ M. The detection limit adopted from anodic stripping differential pulse voltammetry was 7.0 × $10^{-10}$ M for silver and the relative standard deviation was ± 3.2% at a 5.0 × $10^{-8}$ M of Ag(I) ion (n = 7). The proposed electrode shows a very good selectivity for Ag(I) in a standard solution containing several metals at optimized conditions.

  • Ag-Doped bioactive ceramic composites were prepared by colloidal silver solution. The physical properties of colloidal silver solution and Ag-Doped bioactive ceramic composites were characterized by Scanning electron microscopy(SEM), X-Ray Diffractometer(XRD) and Raman spectrophotometer respectively. According to XRD, we have identified that the chloride ion was chemically attached silver nano particles. SEM studies showed that silver chloride phases were homogeneously distributed on the Ag-Doped bioactive ceramic composites surface. Finally, we concluded that the silver chloride phase on the Ag-Doped bioactive ceramic composites surface was strongly prevent formation of Ag-hydroxyapatite.

  • The transport of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) was investigated through a column packed with sand. A series of column experiments were carried out to evaluate the effect of ionic strength (IS), pH, electrolyte type and clay mineral on mobility of polyvinylpyrrolidone-coated silver nanoparticles (PVP-AgNPs). The deposition of PVP-AgNPs was increased with increasing solution ionic strength and decreasing pH. Furthermore, the depositon of PVP-AgNPs was affected by the electrolyte type (NaCl vs. NaNO3) and was shown to be greater at NaNO3 solution. Also, the transport of PVP-AgNPs was greatly increased after the pre-deposition of clay particles on sand. Our results suggest that various environmental factors can influence the mobility of PVP-AgNPs in soil-groundwater systems and should be carefully considered in assessing their environmental risks.
